My Girlfriend’s Senior Student Drowned and She Forced Me to Save Her
Chapter 2
Does love that's been there for over twenty years just disappear in a moment?
No, it doesn't. It fades, little by little.
My love for Sophia had been eroding ever since she crossed that line, and today, she took the last grain of sand from the hourglass.
With shaky hands, I pulled my phone from the waterproof bag and ordered a ride.
When I got home, I was oddly calm.
I looked around at the apartment we had decorated together, but it didn't stir anything in me.
I took a shower, ate dinner, watched TV on the couch, then went to my study to read.
I kept trying to feel the pain—the kind that crushes you when you're losing the person you love most.
Before, just thinking about Sophia with Lucas would paralyze me. I'd panic, wondering if she'd ever come back or if she'd come home just to break up with me.
I'd feel like the whole world had abandoned me, darkness swallowing me whole, making it hard to breathe.
But now, I got lost in the pages of my book, completely immersed, even forgetting to think about Sophia.
Maybe I didn't love her anymore. It was hard to believe, given how deeply I'd loved her for as long as I could remember. Yet, here I was, feeling completely indifferent. I even thought that letting my mind wander to thoughts of her while reading was somehow disrespectful to the book in my hands. Maybe I truly didn't love her anymore.
Suddenly, I felt lighter. My mind, once so consumed by thoughts of her, was finally at ease. It was like a heavy weight had been lifted. With nothing else to think about except taking care of myself, I felt oddly relaxed.
As I lay in bed, I made a wish that Sophia wouldn't come back. But my wish was in vain—I heard the door slam and the click of her heels on the floor. The bedroom door swung open, and there she was, leaning against the doorframe and staring at me.
I tried to pretend I was asleep, but the light was too bright. I had to open my eyes and sit up, leaning against the headboard to see her. She was always beautiful, no matter when I looked at her. But now, with my feelings for her fading, her looks didn't hold the same significance.
"Are you done with your tantrum?" she snapped, kicking off her high heels and tossing them at me.
I dodged them as they hit the floor. "I'm not throwing a tantrum. It's late, and I have a meeting tomorrow. I need to sleep."
I was busy developing a game, and my schedule was tight.
"But I'm not tired. I don't want to sleep. Let's go for a walk by the river," she said.
Sophia knew me too well. She knew if I said I wasn't upset, then I genuinely wasn't. So she thought, like always, that things would just go back to normal.
She pouted and sat next to me, trying to cuddle. "Alexander, you're always so good to me."
"I need to sleep." I turned away from her, shifting to my side.
She went silent for a moment before shaking me, clearly furious. "How dare you say no to me? Are you not listening? Do you want me to ignore you forever?"
There it was again. Every time, she'd use my love for her as leverage, talking down to me like she was a queen giving orders. It was always the same.
Annoyed by her shaking, I sat up and said firmly, "Sophia, if you want to ignore me, you can start right now. I need to sleep, and I'm asking you to stop."
Then I lay back down.
"Why are you talking to me like that?" she asked, her eyes flashing with panic. But she quickly masked it with anger, glaring at me as she threatened, "Alexander, if you won't come with me, I'll call my senior and go with him instead."
"Go ahead," I said calmly. "As long as you don't disturb my sleep, you can do whatever you want."
Smack! She slapped me, and the sting on my cheek was sharp. It was the first time she'd ever hit me. She looked at her hand in shock, guilt flashing across her face, but then she pushed it aside and started another tirade. "Do whatever you want? Fine. I'm going out with him, and we won't be coming back. We're getting a room together!"
"Don't forget your purse." I didn't look at her again.
She stood there silently for a moment before putting her heels back on and leaving.
Maybe she really did get a room with Lucas. That might be for the best. If they made it official, I could finally be free.
I fell asleep quickly but woke up later to my phone ringing. Annoyed, I answered it—it was Sophia. I knew if I didn't pick up, she'd just keep calling, and I wouldn't get any rest.
"Check WhatsApp. Now!" she ordered and then hung up.
I opened WhatsApp to find a photo she'd sent. It was a selfie of her and Lucas in front of a mirror, taken in a hotel bathroom. I recognized the place—it was somewhere we used to sneak off to before college.
So, the two of them really went to a hotel, got a room and had sex.
