Chapter 3

Kaye’s POV

Killian and I had been married for five years.

He courted me after we met at a family gathering. My family was wealthy, and so was he. Killian wasn’t just any rich man; he was a billionaire who owned a famous sports car brand named Vortexion.

On the other hand, my family’s wealth came from owning multiple chains of restaurants that spanned the globe.

My parents were kind and respectable people, always treating everyone with grace and humility.

I was their only child, and they considered me a miracle baby because my mother had struggled for years to conceive. Unfortunately, their story didn’t have a happy ending. They passed away in a tragic accident several years ago, leaving me to take charge of our family’s businesses.

When I married Killian, he offered to help me manage everything. He insisted, saying, “Let me handle it for now. I know how to run a business. You should rest, focus on yourself, and just enjoy being a housewife.”

At first, I thought it was sweet. He didn’t want me to tire myself out or stress over work. He said he wanted me by his side, always there for him.

But as time passed, things began to change. Subtly at first, but enough for me to notice.

Killian became controlling, almost manipulative. What I had initially thought was care began to feel like a trap. He made decisions without consulting me and kept insisting that his way was better.

I started having doubts—dark, lingering thoughts that refused to leave me alone. I couldn’t shake off the feeling that he was hiding something from me. But every time I confronted him about my suspicions, his reaction was the same.

“I fucking married you. So why would I cheat on you?!” he would say, his voice laced with frustration.

His words planted seeds of doubt in my mind. He never gave me the reassurance I desperately needed, never tried to prove me wrong.

It felt like he was defensive instead of being honest.

“Killian, please!” I screamed, my voice breaking as I pounded on the thick wooden door in front of me.

Tears streamed down my face. “Please open the door!”

I had lost count of how many times I had begged, how many times I had slammed my fists against the door, hoping he would hear me.

My hands were bleeding now, small cuts lining my knuckles from the force of my hits.

But I didn’t care.

The pain in my hands was nothing compared to the storm raging inside me.

For a moment, I thought the door would remain shut forever. But then, unexpectedly, it creaked open. I stepped back, my heart racing. Relief, fear, and anger coursed through me all at once.

Instead of Killian, it was the butler who stood there.

He looked at me with an expression I couldn’t quite read—was it pity? Worry? Guilt?

“L-Lady Kaye,” he said softly, his voice trembling slightly.

I stared at him, my chest heaving as I struggled to calm myself. The blood from my hands dripped onto the floor, but I didn’t move. “Where is Killian?” I demanded, my voice hoarse.

The butler hesitated, his eyes darting away from mine.

“He’s with another woman in his office, Lady Kaye…”

Everything shattered.

Frustrated, I shoved him aside and stormed away, my eyes desperately searching for Killian.

“Killian!” I shouted, my voice echoing off the cold walls of our home.

Then, suddenly, I saw him. He stepped out of a room at the far end of the hall.

Following closely behind him was a woman—a sight that made my entire world tilt.

The woman wore a tight dress that clung to her body like a second skin, emphasizing every curve.

Her chest and shapely hips were impossible to ignore, and the way she carried herself made it clear she was fully aware of her attractiveness.

Killian, on the other hand, looked disheveled. His hair was a mess, sticking out in every direction, and his shirt was still unbuttoned at the collar.

I could see faint wrinkles on the fabric, as though he had hastily put it back on.

My hands trembled as I struggled to process the scene in front of me.

“Killian?” I called out weakly, my voice barely above a whisper.

His gaze landed on me, cold and emotionless. “What are you doing here? How did you fucking get out?” he asked, his tone devoid of warmth or concern.

The woman, unfazed by my presence, turned to him with a demure smile.

“It was nice having that meeting with you, Sir Killian,” she said, her voice sensual and confident. Without even sparing me a glance, she brushed past me, her shoulder knocking against mine as she left.

I stumbled slightly, but I refused to let myself falter. My chest heaved as I turned back to Killian.

“W-Who is she?” I demanded, my voice breaking.

His expression didn’t change. “It’s none of your fucking business, Kaye,” he said sharply.

“Go back to our room. I’ll deal with you later.”

I stared at him, unable to believe what I was hearing. He turned away from me, but I wasn’t ready to let this go.

Reaching out, I grabbed his arm, forcing him to face me. “Tell me!” I shouted, my voice trembling with anger and pain. “Did you… did you have sex with her?”

Killian’s eyes flashed with rage.

“Enough!” he shouted, yanking his arm free and shoving me back.

I stumbled and nearly fell, my heart shattering into pieces.

“I told you to go back to the room! Or I’ll do something that will make you regret it!” he hissed before storming off, leaving me standing there in tears.

I felt hollow as I made my way back to our bedroom, my legs barely able to carry me. Once inside, I closed the door and curled up on the bed, sobbing until exhaustion overtook me.

Sometime later, I woke up to the sensation of someone’s hands wrapping around my waist. My eyes flew open, and before I could speak, a hand clamped over my mouth.

“Shh, it’s me,” Killian whispered.

“I’m sorry for what happened earlier. Let me make it up to you.”

“Killian, what are you—” I started, but he cut me off by pulling me closer.

He pressed his lips to mine, silencing any protest I might have had. His touch was firm, and before I could fully process what was happening, he was on top of me.

Despite everything—the anger, the betrayal, the heartbreak—I gave in.

Maybe it was because I loved him, or maybe it was because I was too foolish to let go.

I whispered his name, “Killian,” my voice trembling with a mix of emotions.

That night, something happened between us. And for better or worse, I let it.
