For His First Love, He Left Me Chapter 1

I was nearly dead in a car accident, but my husband, a doctor, said he was busy accompanying his childhood sweetheart to try out a new bed and so he didn't have time to come back for surgery.

"I'm on leave today. Anyone can perform the surgery. Just leave me alone."

He hung up the phone without waiting for the nurse to explain to him.

I called him again, but he turned off his phone.

I saw the nurse cried and she said to me, "I'm sorry I fail to call Dr. Jones back."

Tears streamed down my face, and a chill ran through my entire body.

Before I died, I signed the divorce agreement and organ donation consent form.

Quincy Jones, I will never bother you again.

———

When I was returning home from buying some food, I received an intimate photo from Quincy's childhood sweetheart.

They were like a sweet pair of newlyweds, going to a high-end furniture store together to try out their new beds.

I lost my mind for a moment and was crushed under the onrushing truck.

When I was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, my husband was still not able to answer his phone.

"Lily, there is a sharp object in her chest. Her previous heart surgery was performed by Director Jones. Call him back quickly!"

In the ambulance, I heard a familiar name and struggled to open my eyes.

Then, I overheard the urgent cries of Lily, the emergency nurse, as she shouted, "Dr. Lee, Mr. Jones... He's saying he has some matters to attend to and can't return."

"Call him again! No matter how important the matter is, is it be more urgent than his wife's life?!"

Doctor Lee roared and continued to give me cardiac emergency treatment.

The nurse listened to him and continued to dial, but there was no answer on the other end.

I was disheartened and closed my eyes in pain.

Mr. Jones they mentioned is my husband and also their colleague.

However, they fail to realize that regardless of the matter involving Sofia Chaney, it will always supersede my importance.

I understood this a year ago.

"Doctor Lee..."

I spoke weakly, wanting to tell him about my final arrangements.

He frowned and was about to bend down to listen when the nurse screamed excitedly.

Quincy finally answered the phone.

"Mr. Jones, please come back soon. Mrs. Jones..."

"I'm on leave today. Anyone can perform the surgery. Just leave me alone."

On the other side of the phone, he was impatient and disgusted.

Before the nurse finished her words, the phone was hung up again.

I called again, but the phone was turned off.

For a moment, everyone was stunned.

I clearly felt Dr. Lee's hand holding the instrument paused, followed by a deep sigh.

Almost no one would have thought that Mr. Jones, who had always treated his wife with respect, would abandon his wife's life at such a critical moment.

Holding her cell phone, the nurse sat there dully.

There was not much space in the ambulance, so I heard everything he just said clearly.

The nurse soon broke down into tears.

Because every time I went to the hospital, I would bring food for this little girl.

She always called me "Mrs. Jones" with great respect.

"Lily, stop crying..."

I stretched out my hand weakly and saw her slap herself hard in the face.

"I'm sorry I couldn't call Dr. Jones back..."

I shook my head, too painful to speak.

She committed no fault; it was I who was in the wrong.

My error lay in not severing ties promptly when I discovered a year ago that he and Sofia's love still persisted.

My mistake was that I fell in love with him when I was seeing a doctor.

I would like to comfort Lily, but I only could say nothing.

As she cried, I slowly closed my eyes.
