Chapter 3

Mackenzie's Point of View

When I came to my senses after what seemed like an eternity, everything around me appeared to have a foggy quality.

I was in such severe discomfort that every time I moved, even if it was only for a brief period of time, I hissed and moaned in agony.

"Wake the hell up, you sleepyhead!"

As Kingston raged all around me, I had a hard time opening my eyes.

After I had finally been successful in opening my eyes, it took me some time before I was able to focus on the things that were going on around me.

And when I could finally make out what was going on, I was startled to find that I had moved to a different room.

I looked down at my body and observed that the only thing I was wearing was a pair of matching black underwear that was quite thin. I also became aware that several of the cuts and bruises I had sustained looked to be healing at a glacial pace.

What the living hell is going on?

I was in such a state of terror and disorientation that I rapidly attempted to sit up, but I was yanked down down again.

When I looked down at my outstretched arms, I saw that I was chained to the bed I was lying on. I immediately became aware of my predicament.

Shit! Just what is this, exactly?

I pulled as hard as I could, but the chain's bite on my skin only made me whimper. I tried to get free by tugging as hard as I could. I made an effort to disengage myself from the chain.

When I pulled, it seemed like someone was applying fire to my wrists, and the pain was so intense that I couldn't continue. It seemed as if some kind of acid had been added to the chains.

In a normal circumstance, if I pushed hard enough, I would be able to break these shackles. However, I did not feel strong at all, so all I could do was scream for help. In a normal circumstance, if I worked hard enough, I would be able to break these chains.

Nobody is going to come to our rescue. They were successful in killing everyone, right?' Kingston provided a gloomy explanation of the situation.

And it was at that time that the recollection of how my parents had passed away came back to torment me.

Simply thinking about them caused the discomfort I often feel in my chest. I really couldn't believe that they had passed away, especially considering how much they meant to me. They are no longer there.

I did not want to be brought back to any of that, but it was the truth that I needed to confront at this juncture.

I was suddenly struck with anguish and wrath, and as a response, I exerted every ounce of my power to pull on the shackles once more. I felt like I had no control over my emotions.

'Kingston, assist me. We have to take a different approach.

As I kept pulling, I stoked the fire of the wolf that resides within me.

I am putting forth an effort, yet there is something that is holding me back from being successful.

When I felt the scorching sensation for the second time, I managed to keep a muffled scream from escaping my mouth, but I did not stop pulling with all of my effort.

"If I were in your position, I would change my behavior immediately."

I was taken aback when I heard a harsh baritone voice, and because the only part of me that could move was my head, I looked around to identify who it was that had said that. I could only move my head at the time.

My attention was pulled to a man—no, another werewolf—and, and not just any old ordinary werewolf—lounging against the doorframe with his hands crossed and folded across his chest. The werewolf appeared to be in a very relaxed state.

And despite the fact that he gave the impression of being an angel and had a pleasant grin.

He was definitely lovely. His features were sculpted, and he had broad shoulders and biceps that rippled. If I ever touched his face, the angle of his jawline might easily cut my fingers.

Kingston and I were both under the assumption that he posed a threat in every conceivable way.

Even though he gave off the vibe of an alpha, I knew he hadn't quite made it to that level of leadership just yet.

"Look at me." His tone of voice was resonant and icy. I felt a shiver travel down my spine. I had to jerk my head to gaze at him in his full height.

When I finally brought my gaze to meet him, I found that the moment I did so, his eyes completely absorbed my attention and captivated me. Golden brown eyes with a penetrating ability that could penetrate everything.

Even while they weren't as weighty as that, they still managed to pack a significant amount of authority and depth.

The neatness of his mid-fade hairstyle contributed to the overall appeal of his manliness.

He had a physique that was so impressive that even Zeus would be embarrassed by it. He was extremely tall and possessed gigantic muscles.

In my opinion, the fact that he exuded air that was both frightening and comfortable at the same time is an especially risky mix. He gave off an aura.

"Who are you, and what exactly are you going to do with me?" I questioned while quaking and pulling on the chains once again, only to hear a hissing sound that indicated pain.

"Declan. You are aware that I cautioned you against acting in that manner." His only action was to react, after which he went on to proceed farther inside the room.

"Stay as far away from me as you possibly can!"

I offered a warning while striving to sound threatening in the process.

His eyes were devoid of any sign of emotion, but he wore a sneering grin on his face the entire time.

I jerked away out of reaction, but the pain surged back through my wrists and ankles the second I stopped moving. After that, all of a sudden, I became conscious of the fact that shackles even restrained my legs.

As he pulled me back into place, he gingerly stretched both hands and reached out to grab my calves, taking care not to touch the chains in the process.

He continued to keep his hands on my legs as he repeatedly scratched and grazed each bruise and cut with his fingers. I wanted to kick him or jerk away, but the feel of his hands rendered me helpless to take any action. I had the inclination to do either of those things.

As I focused my attention on him, I couldn't help but feel apprehensive because I had no idea what he would do next. I didn't want him to touch me anymore, but I didn't know how to tell him that without making things awkward between us.

"What is the nature of that odor?" Kingston abruptly asked.

But we made the conscious decision not to acknowledge her, listen to what she had to say, or pay attention to what we were smelling and instead opted to ignore her. Both his acts and my reaction to them left me absolutely perplexed and enthralled at the same time.

"Wolfsbane. Wolfsbane was used to covering the chains and soaking them in the substance as well "he remarked before turning his icy eyes to meet mine and my audience's fearful expressions.

Fuck! No surprise, we feel weak and not healing.

After that, he murmured in a hushed tone while making his pledge, "I won't harm you."

The manner in which he communicated with me was calming, somewhat resembling a lullaby or a narcotic that caused one to feel dizzy and lightheaded.

I had the option of saying, "I—I don't believe you," before finally mustering up the strength to jerk my legs in the hopes that he would get the idea.

On the other hand, it was obvious that he wouldn't go through with it. Because before he removed them, he lightly ran them up to my thighs as if he couldn't stop himself and then removed them. This indicates that he is unable to control himself.

"You are using sound discretion by deciding not to believe what I have to say. If you weren't quite so willing to believe any one of us, it would be helpful "I was taken aback when he talked to me in a whispered tone before flashing his friendly smile in my direction, which completely caught me off guard.
