Chapter 1

Mackenzie's Point of View

"Why did they come to us instead of any of the other packs that they could have visited?" However, why is this the case? During the time that we were standing in front of the home waiting for the alpha and the luna, I asked the question.

As I looked around and saw my folks seated in a sombre manner, the atmosphere inside my pack took on an oddly unsettling quality.

"That is a reasonable question, but because we don't know what treaty this was about, we should at least hear what they had to say about it," my father said. My father had a worried look in his eyes as he clenched his grip on my hand.

When I gazed at my father, I wondered whether I would be like him if I had finally found my mate and taken my place as the leader of this pack if I had finally found my partner. Unafraid, honorable, powerful, and trustworthy character traits.

Physically? He was enormous; not only was he tall, but he was composed entirely of muscle. The mere sight of him might send other werewolves running for cover.

"I'm not sure, Harrison. The more I think about it, the more uneasy I am." My mother mumbled something to us. I could see the strain on my mother's face, and it concerned me. Her stunning appearance betrayed the anxiety and concern that she was experiencing.

She was always a reassuring presence for my dad, and she was his equal in terms of strength and knowledge. When I first started looking for a partner, a part of me wished that we would be similar to how my parents were.

As the automobile carrying our guests came up in front of our house, my mother and father immediately straightened their posture. On the other hand, I did what we always did when other packs came into our territory and stayed close behind them.

It was designed to convey the idea that I was not yet at their level, but that we worked together as a unit.

My father addressed Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha with respect before shaking their hands like regular humans do. He added, "Welcome to our domain, Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha."

They were said to have originated in London and had a position of authority over the vast majority of the werewolf population in the United Kingdom, elevating them to a higher status than my own parents.

Both Joanna and Rebecca, who served as the group's beta and gamma, were present. This was something I had never heard of before, and it puzzled me because the pack in question featured two females in positions of second and third in command. In most packs, the roles of beta and gamma are often held by males.

For whatever reason, their traditions were completely foreign to me, and as a result, I paid them very little attention. After they had finished shaking hands and introducing themselves to one another, my mother extended an invitation for them to come inside.

Because I wasn't permitted to stay and listen to business things just yet, I made a polite excuse for myself and intended to head up to my room. I apologize for the inconvenience.

However, before I went, I noticed that both Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha were staring at me. They were both wearing moon faces.

The way they looked at me made my spine tingle all the way down. It appeared as though they were interested in me, but not in a positive way. They appeared to know something about me, and it was something that gave me uneasy feelings.

They appeared to be mentally connecting with one another, and it was clear that they were discussing me. Even though they weren't gazing at me, the intensity of their gaze was so strong that I was unable to move my feet. I had the sensation that the ground below me was about to consume me entirely.

Luna Martha made my dad smile when she called me his "very lovely daughter."

"There is no question that she is beautiful." My dad's eyes were on me at that moment. He said that while giving me the greatest smile he could muster.

Alpha Nathan enquired, "May I question as to her age?"

My father reaffirmed, in a terse manner, that "she is just eighteen years old."

"Wonderful," Luna Martha exclaimed. Her appearance suddenly brightened up.

I briefly looked down at myself while experiencing a momentary bout of mild anxiety on the inside.

While she was speaking, she had a smile on her face, but it didn't reach her eyes. At that moment, she gave off the impression of being exquisitely beautiful, but there was something ominous about the way she handled herself.

"Mackenzie, you can go now," my mother remarked. Her face was clearly displaying signs of concern at that moment. My mother was not very skilled at concealing the feelings she was experiencing.

Observing my parents act in such a strange manner was really confusing to me. They never displayed any signs of nervousness in my presence, and I never saw them seem nervous.

They were unable to be relied on in any way.

When Kingston, my inner wolf, scoffed, I had no choice but to believe what she had to say. Both of us were acutely aware of the intense tension that pervaded the environment.

I knew that my parents wouldn't agree with me if I asked them to let me stay with them, so instead of pleading with them, I just dropped my head and walked out the door. I wanted to stay with them even though I wouldn't be of any help.

My mother smiled one final time as I passed over the doorway of the house. After that, she told me that she loved me and then slowly closed the door.

When the door finally shut, I became aware that Alpha Nathan and Luna Martha were staring at me with a smothering look, and I immediately turned my attention in their way.

As I open the door to go outdoors, the breeze strikes my face, and I take a few deep breaths in preparation to be swallowed by the overpowering, menacing smell they give off.

When I turned to look at what was going on, I saw that Alpha Nathan, along with his beta and gamma, Joanna and Rebecca, were fighting to the death with my parents through a large hole in the wall. When I turned to look at what was going on, I saw that the alpha Nathan was helping his beta and gamma.

My mother immediately tackled Luna Martha after my father had fallen to the ground and stopped breathing after he had been injured.

My mother was attempting to escape when she was caught by the ankle by the beta's hand. I tried to swing my arm and hit the gamma, but he wrapped his arm around my neck and prevented me from doing so. My mother was the last person I saw alive; she was laying motionless on the ground, and I knew in that instant that she had passed away.

They cut my parents' hearts out of their chests and beheaded them while laughing and making fun of those who pleaded for their lives to spare them.

They were not allowed to do the same thing for me since they wanted me for their sons, but they were allowed to test my capabilities, whatever that may have meant.

My mom had the right idea. They ought not to have let those people enter, but by that point it was too late, and no one could have anticipated this happening.

They had more power than all of us put together. We weren't going to have much of a shot at winning.

When I was the sole survivor left, they offered me the opportunity to escape, but then they went for me nonetheless.

"Mackenzie, pull yourself together," the doctor told her. We have no choice but to fucking run!'

I heard Kingston yelling from deep within of me, and I obeyed her commands. I allowed her to take charge of the situation.

We didn't get very far because they caught up to us before I could even step outside the boundaries of our territory. I served as both their prey and their sport for them.

A needle was suddenly inserted into the back of my neck as I struggled, causing a great deal of discomfort. In spite of my best efforts to keep them open, my eyelids started to droop, and I could feel the muscles in my limbs becoming weak and unresponsive.

I am aware that I am still conscious, despite the fact that everything around me seems hazy and dreamlike. If I could do anything, it would be to pray that this effect goes away quickly.

My soul died.
