Chapter 6

Athena's POV

I took stiff, unsure steps into the Alpha's bedroom. After his display with my sister all this time, I didn't think that he would call me to the bedroom to serve him for the night.

"Why are you just standing around like that?" He said, but he didn't sound half as irritated as he did normally.

I pursed, weighed my words and spoke.

"I thought...well, I thought you wouldn't need me for tonight,"

He raised an eyebrow.

"Have you had an imaginary heir for me that I don't know about?" he said, his voice snappy.

"That's not what I mean. I mean, with Isabella here, I didn't think that you'd have any reason to call for me at night,"

His eyebrows almost went beyond his forehead in a cartoonish manner.

"I don't know where you got the idea from, but Isabella and I are just friends. Not that I really have to explain myself to you, but I don't want you going around and misunderstanding our relationship,"

I kept my eyes on his while they bulged with shock.

"Are you serious?"

"Of course, Do you think that in a million years I would ever make Isabella a mistress? Don't kid yourself she isn't interested in me like that,"

My head fell, disappointment swelled up in my chest.

"So what if she did..."

"What if she did what?" he asked while he was taking off his shirt and revealing his abs, normally one of the best times in a night for me but right now it wasn't really doing the trick. I felt dry and almost musty between my legs.

"If she gave you a chance...if she had agreed to come and be yours all those years back, would you have been happier?"

He balled up his shirt and tossed it in the corner of the room carelessly.

"What does it matter how I answer that question? If you already have something in your little head that you think is correct, let me guess.... you expect me to say, yeah I would have been happier with her, wouldn't you? If I said something like that, what benefits would it be to you?"

I fiddled up with my fingers nervously, trying and failing to find the courage to meet his eyes.

"Raphael, I tried to be hopeful, but I'm not stupid. I see the way you look at Isabella, that's not the look you give to a friend,"

He suddenly grabbed a pillow by the bed and swung it so hard at my face that it hit like a projectile.

"You are insane!" he hissed through heated breath, "Jealous and insane, that's what you are. Maybe if you had some friends of your own, you would know what it feels like to be treated nicely without assuming the person has romantic feelings or something like that...my goddess! Do you hear yourself just now?"

I backed away, replaying the events since Isabella came, which he claimed had all been done in a stretch of hospitality.

He was making it sound as if I was insane, but I wasn't.

Was I?

Was there a possibility that I had misunderstood all of his actions and misinterpreted them under a canopy of exaggeration and jealousy?

I let the pillow plop to the floor, confusion overwhelming me.

"Are you really sure you would pick me over my sister?" I felt pathetic asking this question, but nevertheless, the words made their way through my mouth, and I waited anxiously, shifting from foot to foot like a nervous teenager that had just confessed their feelings to their crush. He came towards me with courageous steps and then grabbed me around my arm, pulling me close enough so that I was inhaling all of his scent without withdrawal.

"What do you think about you right now? Why do you carry the title of Luna? The very task you were brought here for has not even been fulfilled, yet I treat you well. Don't you think that with all of that in mind, you're the one who should be questioned?"

I had walked into this bedroom thinking that we would be having the curtains drawn on our relationship, but instead, I was carried princess style over to the bed, and that night he didn't leave me until my legs felt like jelly.

That night, I got a little courageous. I cozied towards his chest and asked in my most non-confrontational voice how long Isabella would be staying with us.

He scrunched up his nose instantly, as if he smelled something bad whilst in the bedroom and couldn't make sense of it. Then, without missing a beat afterwards, he told me that this was his house and he could entertain his guests for as long as he wanted to.

Quickly, I diverted the conversation away from Isabella until we both fell asleep, and that was when I understood that if I wanted peace, at least for as long as my sister was going to be living under the same roof as me, I had to play a long game of patience.

Perhaps this was his way of testing me, to see if I was truly a caring Luna or not. It couldn't be anything else, and I believed it to be so, which was why I carried out my duties, including taking care of her. I didn't see myself as a maid but rather as her babysitter, and it made the whole ordeal easier, especially when she would throw her usual tantrums just for the sake of it.

One night, I had great news to give to Raphael. It was something that we had been looking forward to for years, and I had tears in my eyes as I squeezed the white envelope within my grasp.

But before I even reached the door, I could hear his moans mixed with a familiar voice that haunted my dreams.

He grunted and said; "Turn around, Isabella, let's have some real fun,"
