Chapter 2

When Marco escorted me back home, my father was already waiting at the gate with a line of servants, greeting us respectfully.

Our Giordano family was nothing more than a peripheral branch under the Moretti family. My father dreamed day and night of elevating our standing.

So when he saw Marco standing close beside me, his narrow eyes instantly lit up with undisguised greed.

He respectfully invited Marco into the reception room, while I returned alone to my bedroom.

I knew it would not be long before I would be forced to marry him, just like Vivian had in my previous life.

Nevertheless, I did not feel resistant at all.

Sure enough, after Marco left, my father did not ask for my opinion even once before announcing, brimming with joy, the news of my engagement to him.

At the same time, Luca and his entourage escorted Vivian back in grand fashion. The news that she was about to become the wife of the Mafia Boss's heir spread through the entire family like wildfire.

Vivian was glowing with excitement. When she saw me, she put on a show of guilt and spoke softly, "Jules, if it had been you in that alley that day, you would've probably ended up being the heir's wife..."

Standing beside her, Luca lifted his head and fixed his gaze tightly on me, a faint smile playing at the corner of his lips, its meaning unclear.

I felt like prey locked onto by a venomous snake. A chill crept up my spine in an instant.

When Vivian noticed the exchange of looks between us, she assumed I was coveting her fiance. She immediately shot me a vicious glare.

She wrapped her arm tightly around Luca's, her tone dripping with malice.

"Oh, you can forget about ever becoming his wife now. I'm the one he likes. And you? You are going to marry Marco, the most terrifying Caporegime in the Moretti family. God, how frightening. Poor Jules."

Her words seemed to make Luca lose interest in me. He casually looked away.

Only then did my tightly wound heart finally relax. My back was already soaked with cold sweat, clinging uncomfortably to my clothes.

In that moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude toward Marco. I even found myself looking forward, just a little, to marrying him.

In truth, he was not as terrible as Vivian believed.

In my previous life, she had been terrified of him. Whenever he came near, she would scream, even throwing things at him.

However, he never laid a hand on her. Instead, he had considered her feelings and would rather stay with the troops than return home.

Vivian had guarded an empty house alone and felt unbearably lonely. She would occasionally run into Luca accompanying me on the street.

Luca was gentle and attentive, serving me with care. I did not even need to lift a hand while eating. He smiled the entire time as he fed me bite by bite.

That was when Vivian's jealousy reached its peak.

While Luca went to wash his hands, she had dragged me up to the rooftop. She had grabbed my arm, her face twisted with rage.

"Why does everything always work out for you? You should have been torn apart when you fell into their hands. Instead, you got a powerful, gentle husband, and I’m condemned to spend my life with a monster. Go to hell."

She had then shoved me off the thirtieth floor.

In the final instant of my fall, I grabbed onto her, and the two of us fell to our deaths together.

Then we were both reborn.

In this life, we each made choices completely different from before.

She got what she wanted, encountering the Mafia Boss's heir on a street riddled with gunfire and becoming his wife.

I changed my own fate as well.

Marco looked terrifying, but to be honest, I would rather marry him than spend even one more second near Luca.

Vivian thought Luca was a gentle, considerate, perfect gentleman.

Unbeknownst to her, marrying him was the true beginning of her nightmare.
