Chapter 2

NOW

Leonard

"Why do I get to be out here working on the O'Neill case and you're sitting behind a desk in the office?"

Nick laughs into the phone.

"Because you've got that charm ladies love. I'm too old for any of that, Agent Leo," he responds. Nick is only five years older than I am but we've been assigned to work on the same case.

"How does that work with this case?"

"Getting the hot receptionist to find you a spot. Speaking of which, did you finally secure an appointment with the company?"

"Of course I did," I reply with a subtle eye roll. The music from the bar gets louder as I walk closer.

"Great work Leo. Have some good rest tonight and ahead for tomorrow. Remember, our promotion depends on this. Don't fuck it up."

"Goodnight Nick."

I let out some cold air as I end the call. My head hurts. I spent the entire day trying to get an appointment at the O'Neill's shipping company with a fake shipping order. There's been a tip the family have their hands dirtied in illegal arm dealings. I got lucky enough to get a spot for tomorrow after a lot of persuading the hot receptionist. Nicholas wasn't wrong about me having my way with the ladies.

I slide my phone into my pocket as I walk into the bar. Some rock music playing from the speakers with the smell of alcohol in the air. I catch a whiff of weed as I walk past a group of young adults. It disgusts me, making my nose itch from inhaling. A drink or two and I'll be out of here. I walk to the only empty table next to two ladies who seem to be heavily invested in their conversation. The blonde hair stares at me as I make my way to a stool. Her brown eyes piercing through mine just before she drags them to stare at the lady next to her. I'm guessing they are friends as the other lady leans into her and lets her head rest on her shoulder. Her brown hair falls to the side of her face, giving me a glimpse of her green eyes. The lights in the bar cast a glow on them. I can't help but stare longer than I should. I'm met with a scorn as she notices my eyes on her. The waiter comes to my aid as she stands in the space between our tables.

"Look who decided to show up again," Molly says with a warm seductive smile that flaunts her dimples. I've been at the bar more than a few times since I moved here. And maybe caused a fight the last time I had been around. Molly isn't going to let that slide.

"Just need a quick drink and I'll be out of here." She smacks my shoulder gently as she bursts into a laugh.

"I was only fucking around with you. Stay as much as you want. That fuckhead deserved that beating you gave him."

I shrug, leaning into my seat to get another look at the green eyes that's staring at me. She looks away as our eyes meet.

"The regular please."

Molly winks and nods. She must have seen me staring at the stranger with beautiful eyes. Her rose arm tattoo is visible as she walks away in an armless shirt and short jean skirt. Finally. I have a clearer view of the stranger again. She stands to her feet as she downs the last drop of her drink. Her blue dress hugging every curve of her body with just enough view of her cleavage to make me wonder how her silky body would feel when I touch her. She walks away in the direction of the restroom just as Molly returns with my glass of beer.

"What's a man like you doing alone in a bar?"

I gaze at the blonde haired lady as I take a sip of my beer. My tongue welcomes the chillness as it burns my throat. Her brown eyes watching me as I drink.

"Getting a drink," I smirk. She tucks her hair behind her ear as she picks up her glass. I watch her eyes move to my arms and she stares at my muscles for a second, taking a tiny portion of her lips in between her teeth. I can already tell she's into me but I have my eyes on someone else. The green eyes have my brain warped and wanting her.

"If I'm lucky tonight, I might find myself a beautiful woman to have to myself too."

I raise my glass to my lips as a tiny smile forms on her face. I let out a disgruntled sound as a drunk tips and falls on me. It causes the entire beer to spill on my shirt.

"Oh gosh," she exclaims softly as she stands on her feet.

The stupid asshole that fell on me does nothing but laugh with the rest of his drunk friends as I push him away. I'm fighting the urge to be a gentleman and not punch him in the face.

"Let me help with that," the blonde hair says as she takes out a white napkin from her purse. I stand to my feet already slightly pissed that my night's ruined so early.

"It would be rude of me to trouble a pretty lady like you. Give me a minute to take care of this. I'll be right back."

I grab her hand, placing a kiss on the back of her palm just before I take the napkin she has out. The color of her cheeks redden.

"One minute."

I squeeze myself through the crowd as I make my way to the restroom. I wipe on the wet stain on my white shirt as I walk into the door. It'll leave a stain by tomorrow. I lift my eyes as I hear a scream. Those green eyes fixed on me with fear in them.

"What the fuck? Are you following me? Who the hell are you?"

Her eyes are shooting daggers at me now.

"Excuse me?" I say confused. She stays in the spot with a pocketknife she's trying to keep hidden. I'm fucked. My dick is hard watching her get feisty.

"Who are you?"

"A guy trying to wash off the beer a fuckhead made me spill on my shirt." I point to the stain on my shirt. She takes a step back and I watch her ease as she does. The fire in her eyes gone.

"Relax daisy," I smile. She eyes me for a moment before walking to the sink. I take the sink next to hers and turn on the tap. She smells like peaches.

"You're in the ladies."

She scrubs her fingers gently, not glancing at me once as she washes her hands.

"Oh dammit!" I must have missed the sign giving my attention to the stain on my shirt.

"I wasn't paying attention to anything else but my shirt."

She closes the tap.

"And you. I've been thinking about you for the most of tonight."

She finally turns to stare at me now. My eyes flicker to the curve of her lips then back to her eyes. I can see the conflict in them. And something she's trying so hard to hide behind them. I'm a few inches taller than her.

"What do you want?"

I toss the used napkin to the trash by the sink and turn to her. She's so fucking beautiful and I hope she knows it.

"You really want to know?"

She's got an attitude now as she closes the distance between us, not taking her eyes off mine. It makes my dick jerk. I want her more than I did before.

"I want to make love to you."

Her lips are slightly parted. I lean in closer, our lips a tilt away from touching.

"But right now, I want to kiss you."

She lets out a warm breath but doesn't move.

"And I'm afraid I won't stop there, daisy."

I watch the uncertainty in her eyes for a second before she squeezes them shut and takes a step back.

"I shouldn't be here," she says as she begins to walk faster to the door. I curse underneath my breath as I turn back to the mirror. I grip the edge of the sink, letting my head fall. She walks back in the room before I can let out a breath and stops in front of me.

"Kiss me."

I stare confused. Something's changed. That feisty girl is back.

"I want you to kiss me. Now."

She grabs a handful of my shirt and hooks our lips together before I can think. Fuck. I was right. She tastes as sweet as I knew she would. I pin her to the wall, tilting her head to get enough of her lips. They'll be the end of me tonight.
