Faced with a Deadly Gift, I Chose Divorce Chapter 1

On our wedding anniversary, my husband's childhood sweetheart gave me a set of La Mer on his behalf.

I looked at the limited edition gift box worth 20 thousand dollars in my hand and went to the law firm.

That night, he entered the door with gifts.

But I took out the divorce agreement and placed it in front of him.

"Divorce? I agree."

As Steven opened the door, a pungent smell of alcohol rushed towards us.

I frowned and habitually opened the drawer of the coffee table to prepare to take anti-allergic medicine.

I looked at the agreement in my hand and I was stunned.

Anyway, since we were getting divorced, there didn't seem to be much difference between staying out tonight and staying out after the divorce.

Why did I take medicine to harm my own body?

When Steven changed his shoes and approached me, my arms were already red.

Steven frowned and looked dissatisfied, "Why didn't you take the medicine? Don't you know you are severely allergic to alcohol?"

So he didn't forget.

His tone at this moment was full of blame, but the tenderness from three years ago was gone.

So it was intentional for Steven to ask Lara to bring the set of La Mer to me.

I turned my head and looked at the bag he was carrying when he entered, with the logo of "La Mer" printed on it.

Steven lowered his head and searched in the drawer that had just been opened for a while, but he didn't see any trace of the medicine.

After three years, Steven still didn't remember where I put the medicine.

I raised my eyes and casually handed the agreement to him.

We were about to divorce, so there was no need to argue over these trivial matters.

"I know you're busy. I've already had the agreement drafted by a lawyer. I don't want a penny more from you, and you can't give me any less than what I deserve."

Steven sat down and rubbed his dizzy eyes. After carefully reading the agreement, he slammed it on the table.

"Janice, today is our one-year wedding anniversary. I told you I had to socialize, not that I intentionally didn't accompany you. You know how long I've been working for this cooperation."

I nodded indifferently.

"I know, didn't you already have Lara give me a gift on your behalf? I received it, so sign the agreement."

Steven opened his eyes forcefully, as if trying to see my expression clearly.

My serious expression stung him, and Steven's eyebrows tightened instantly.

"You received a gift and still want more? Are you disgusted that the gift was bought by Lara? I picked it out and bought it. I just asked her to give it to you because I was busy socializing. Don't you like skincare products?"

I did like skincare products.

Which girl didn't love beauty?

Because I am severely allergic to alcohol, I have to be extra cautious when buying skincare products.

Steven seems to have forgotten the painful price I paid for my allergies before.

That's why he could tolerate Lara do such things.

Oh no, he was testing my bottom line himself.

In the time it took to say a few words, the redness on my arm had already started to break out in a rash.

I shook my arm uncomfortably to relieve the itchiness.

I lost my patience with the explanation due to the allergies.

"Does it matter who chooses? Steven? Sign it, I don't have time to talk to you."

If we continued like this, I was afraid I would move out tonight and went straight to the hospital.

This was the first time in three years that I had given him a cold face, and my impatient tone had worn away his already limited tenderness.

At this moment, I forcefully threw the pen to the ground, and the pen instantly fell apart.

"Janice, what are you making a fuss about?"

"Before, we did not give birth to our baby. Haven't I already explained it to our parents?"

"I said, we have five years. Can't we explain to our families if we don't have children after five years?"

"Now it's only been a year, and you have to go crazy with me on our wedding anniversary?"

Suddenly, when I heard Steven mention our previous child, tears welled up in my eyes.

He still remembered that child.

But he forgot how the child died!

I took another pen and handed it to him with a cold expression.

"Enough, sign it."

Steven looked at me with a hint of anger in his gaze.

"What if I don't sign? My mom said she found an experienced doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and asked me to take you back to see the doctor in a few days to take care of your body. It's easier to get pregnant when your body is in good condition."

I laughed coldly at his words.

"Have I taken less traditional Chinese medicine in the past two years? Steven, even the child knows that we are not meant to be together and didn't want to be with us. Do you still want to force it?"

Steven completely lost his patience and shouted in a low voice, "Not meant to be together? If we weren't meant to be together, could we get married? It's not easy for us to get married, don't you know? How much have I sacrificed for this relationship?"

"Since Lara returned to the country, your temper has been getting worse every day. I come back from socializing outside and still have to see your cold expression, Janice, I am a person, I am a man!"

"I am not an animal!"

His voice grew louder with each sentence, and his final roar made me freeze in place. It seemed that the itchiness on my body disappeared, and his complaints echoed in my ears.

In this marriage, no one was victorious.

A bitter smile appeared on the corner of my lips.

I never knew how hard he felt in this marriage.

What's the point of continuing?

After Lara returned, Steven's mother arranged for Lara to work in the company and accompany him under the pretext of not trusting him to venture alone.

Every time he come back from a social event, I open the door.

What I saw was the blurred lipstick on Lara's lips and the corners of Steven's lips bitten.

From the initial trust to the current numbness.

He was a person.

But he forgot, I was also a person, and my love would also be exhausted one day.

"Whatever you think, didn't your mother like Lara very much? Get a divorce, maybe you will have a child."

"I put the agreement here, you think about it and sign it when you calm down."

After I finished speaking, I turned around and walked into the bedroom, dragging my already packed suitcase out.

At the moment I opened the door, I found Steven collapsed, holding his head and burying it in his knees.

"Janice, can you justify yourself to me?"
