Chapter 4

Max nodded and picked up a wooden chair to slam it on the coffee table.

The glass shattered instantly.

Instead of scaring Max, the loud noise aroused his stronger desire for destruction.

Ada also smashed furniture.

They smashed all the furniture, including the wallpaper, doors, and windows. Only load-bearing walls were not destroyed.

In the end, Ada saw my mother's portrait hanging on the wall.

She took it and smiled. "Max, where is the lighter? Burn it."

"How dare you!" I stood up suddenly with anger. I quickly stepped forward, pointed at Ada, and warned her, "I don't care if you hit or smash things. But, if you dare to touch my mom's portrait, I'll fight you!" Hearing my threat, Ada wasn't afraid but sneered. She was confident that I wouldn't dare hurt her and Max. Max took out a lighter. Ada snatched it away and burned the portrait. "Stop!" I rushed over and snatched the portrait. Then, I slapped Ada and put out the fire, but one-third of the portrait was still burned, and it became yellow and black. "Mom, it's my fault." I burst into tears, holding the portrait. "You should hurt Mom, I'll kill you!" Max hit me from behind. My eyes dulled, and I slumped to the ground. 4 I felt like my brain was about to burst in pain, and I screamed in agony. I touched my head and found that it was covered in blood. When I looked back, I noticed that Max was actually holding an ashtray.

"Let me do it." Ada snatched the ashtray and threw it at me.

I had a head injury, so I was weak and couldn't resist. What I could do was raise my hands to protect myself.

The ashtray hit my arm again and again, and my bones broke in sharp pain.

I didn't know how many times Ada hit me.

Ada suddenly heard someone knocking and stopped reluctantly, "It must Eric. Open the door."
