Chapter 1

The night before my wedding, my fiancé sold the condo we had prepared for three years.

His friends were in an uproar when they heard about it.

“Ruby Lane must have some serious charm, making you sell your condo just to buy her a Ferrari. Does Stella Hayes know? Once the place is sold, where are you two going to live after the wedding?”

“She doesn’t need to know everything. Ruby loves racing, she’s wild and passionate — just my type. Of course, I have to support her.”

“And come on, Stella is a washed-up surgeon with no future. I, Nathan Cole, am still willing to marry her — what more does she want? I can’t let her ruin my chance to enjoy life while I’m young.”

Hearing his words, I smiled.

I pulled out my phone and texted my brother:

“Brother, you were right — a marriage alliance is the best choice for me. And by the way, the racing team I mentioned last time — you can go ahead and buy it.”

The night before the wedding, Nathan threw a bachelor party.

I brought a pot of soup to the private karaoke lounge, wanting to be thoughtful.

I hadn’t expected to overhear his friends whispering inside:

“All this just because Ruby wanted the latest Ferrari? You sold the condo? Does Stella know? Where will you live after the wedding?”

“Exactly! That place was designed and decorated by Stella from top to bottom — it was her labor of love!”

Nathan took a swig of liquor, looking indifferent.

“What’s there to worry about? Back then, during that car accident, she ruined her own hand to protect me — a once-promising neurosurgeon who now can’t even hold a scalpel steadily. She’s bet her whole life on me. You think she cares about one apartment?”

I looked down at my right hand, once praised as the “Hand of God,” now limp and cold, numb to the bone.

“Ever since she lost the use of that hand, Stella turned into a mute little gourd, staying home all day tinkering with junk nobody understands. Boring as hell.”

At that moment, Ruby stumbled in, drunk, holding two open bottles of champagne, and threw herself into Nathan’s arms.

Nathan beamed.

“With a girl who can race, skydive, live on the edge, keep the passion high — how could I refuse?!”

The woman at Nathan’s side smirked smugly.

“Haha, of course not.”

“Guys, I finally got something good. Don’t ruin it for me.”

Nathan grinned, and Ruby clung to him without a care.

His buddies immediately chimed in.

“Yeah, yeah, Nathan, you’re living the dream — just don’t forget your brothers…”

The lounge filled with raucous laughter.

“Nathan, don’t worry! When I win the racing championship, the first thing I’ll do is bring you the trophy!”

Nathan laughed even harder, his eyes glassy.

“See? Ruby is just that confident. Her world needs passion and speed — and I have to support her.”

I stood at the doorway, feeling the blood in my veins turn to ice.

Most of my income each month went straight to Nathan.

My right hand still needed rehabilitation if I ever wanted a chance to fully recover.

I had once wanted to buy an imported nerve stimulation device, but Nathan’s face had darkened immediately.

“Spending more money? You’ve been treating this for years. Domestic models are cheaper.”

In the end, he only allowed me to buy a low-frequency domestic machine that cost a few hundred dollars — and I had to pay the bill myself.

So he could be generous — just never with me.

The next day, Nathan and I went together to pick up our custom-made wedding rings.
