Chapter 1

"Miss Voss, are you sure you want to cancel your ID, passport, everything? You will be in greater pain if you ever need to get them back. It'll be like… you won't even exist anymore."

The clerk said, taking a deep breath. Her fingers were still touching the forms I had just slid across the counter.

Moreover, I could easily see the confusion in her eyes. Probably she had seen people who tried to disappear before, but not like this.

The next moment, I bit my lower lip and leaned forward. It would not be a lie that my voice was steady but laced with cold resolve. "That's the point. Eva Voss has to disappear. Completely."

When she heard my cold voice, she swallowed her breath. It seemed like she was trying to decide if she should talk me out of it or simply comply. But she didn't know the reality.

I wasn’t just a woman who wanted to vanish. I was the wife of Cassian Moretti, the head of the Moretti Mafia Family. And I was done being his pawn.

Eventually, she signed the forms and stamped them. My eyes were fixed on her as she did it all without a second thought.

With that last stamp, my old life ceased to exist. There was no more Eva Voss. No more Cassian Moretti’s wife. No more mafia queen. She was just gone.

The moment I moved outside the world seemed as cold and distant as the life I was leaving behind.

To be honest, I had no time to look back. I had erased every last trace of my existence in this world—the world Cassian had built for us, for me.

---

The sudden buzzing of my cell phone broke my trance. I checked the screen, and a new message flashed across it.

My new identity was confirmed. The private flight was scheduled. In a matter of days, my carefully planned life would begin.

But as I glanced at the lock screen, my heart tightened. My eyes stopped at the lock screen. It was our wedding picture—me and Cassian, standing on the island he had built just for us.

We were surrounded by our mafia family and allies. The announcement had made headlines across the city, and the world.

He gave a name to the island —"Eva Haven”. It was the symbol of his love and admiration. I will never forget how our love story was celebrated like a fairy tale.

A sick, bitter laugh aroused in my chest. I still remember how Cassian used to pursue me for twenty long years.

He never gave up. He had never stopped. Although I had rejected him at every turn, he never halted.

In those years, I had seen him grow. He had become the man who he was today. His hands weren’t just stained with blood—they were the hands of a king.

The mafia world had bowed to him, and I had been his queen. Or so I thought.

As a teenager he was always in the background of my life, always trying to get my attention. But I had pushed him away and kept rejecting his love.

How could I trust someone when my father had abandoned my mother at her worst?

He left her to die alone in a hospital room? I had learned early that love was a trap.

But then, my health deteriorated. The moment I thought I was going to die, he didn’t hesitate.

Without even a second thought, Cassian gave me his bone marrow. He saved my life. Even though I wasn't in full consciousness, his words still echoed in my mind.

"I did it for you."

Then there was no going back. I let him in. I let him believe I trusted him. After years of rejecting him or running from him, I said yes when he proposed.

I gave him everything he wanted—everything he had fought for. I promised him that if he ever betrayed me, I would disappear without a trace. I warned him that he only had one chance.

He agreed. He gave me his life, his empire, everything. But a month ago, I found him with another woman.

How could he?

I wasn’t naive. I wasn’t stupid. The man who had pursued me for so many years betrayed me. The way he was looking and touching another woman was heartbreaking.

“Does he think I will stay?”
