Dream: New beginning, New hope
Chapter 4
"After you left, Dad kept beating Mom and asked her where you had been, but Mom didn't say anything. Dad got drunk a few days ago and took it out on Mom. She was beaten until she vomited blood. Grandma didn't want to waste money and refused to take Mom to the hospital, so Mom died. Mom asked me to contact you before she died. She said she missed you very much, but she also asked me to tell you not to come back."
I was silent for a while, then asked in a hoarse voice about Wendy's current situation.
"Me?" Wendy sneered.
"Because you ran away from marriage, Grandma didn't let me continue to study after I graduated from junior high school. She said I could bring good luck and I was worth 100 thousand dollars. She's already looking for a man for me, and I'll get married in a while."
"Why is she so anxious to get married?" Wendy was just eighteen.
"Emily, you've been out for so long that you've forgotten everyone in our village is like this. Joseph is also getting married. Let's not talk about it. I can't be out for too long."
She hung up.
The calmness I had during the call was all gone.
I realized the pain and sorrow.
Mom passed away.
She was beaten to death by my father. My grandmother killed her.
But would she have died if I hadn't run?
Intense grief and guilt swept over me.
I finally couldn't hold it in anymore and started crying silently with my head in my hands.
Revenge.
That was the only thought left in my mind.
