Chapter 2

Kya's POV

As I raced towards the border, tears fell from my eyes. The words of Alpha Thane resonated in my head. "She's just a tool." "She's naive." "I'll dump her once I get the inheritance and make you Luna."

How had I been blind all this time? This wasn't the sweet man I had known and bonded with!

My heart drummed heavily as I reached the border.

The officer was astounded to see me. "Luna? To what do I owe this visit?"

"I'm severing ties with the Alpha and the pack. Get me the necessary papers now."

His eyes twitched in surprise and he stepped back. An elder, Marius, came up to the table and stared at me. "Do you know the gravity of what you just said?" His voice was gentle yet firm.

I grabbed my purse tightly, rage cracking inside me. "I do."

He came again:

"Luna Kya Seas, once you break ties with your pack, there’s no reversal. Your mark will fade. Your presence will be erased from our Pack's history.”

I nodded, my voice unwavering. “Take it all out, Marius. Leave nothing behind.”

But he stalled. He might be in trouble for doing this. “Your lineage will be empty. Your scent will vanish from — It will go blank and —"

“Just what I want,” I cut in.

He gave a slow nod, stamping the paper in front of him. “As you wish. You have two weeks to finalize your affairs. After that, you will no longer be a part of Moonwood Pack."

With that, I left the hall, aware of the eyes bearing down on me and the whispers that followed my decision.

Blaring in speakers and displayed in gigantic billboards was the news of my wedding with Thane.

A newsflash came up: Alpha Thane has just, amongst others, bought a million-dollar thousand acres of land covered with rose flowers, which he said was Luna Kya's favorite thing in the whole world.

I felt a stab of pain; my favorite flowers were not roses, I hated them.

A group of she-wolves sauntered by.

"This is the kind of relationship I'd kill for!" one declared, unaware of me.

"Look how he showers her with gifts and love. And he's not secret about it. The Luna is blessed!"

How would they react if they learned what Thane had said to Celine in the private room?

I walked on, feeling my strength slipping from me. I couldn't face anyone.

Alpha Thane, years ago, had been an epitome of love. He was so perfect at it that people suspected he was a demigod of love.

He pampered me to a fault, bought be random gifts from the wild. When I had a little fever, he'd suspend all he had to get me healthy.

So he did all that not to lose his inheritance.

My phone began to ring, jolting me. It was Thane.

"Where in the world are you, Kya?" he cried, his voice just below a bawl.

"Taking a walk."

"Do not move an inch, a thirty-car convoy is coming your way. Please come let's finalise this, sweetheart."

It didn't take a minute before the cars stopped in front of me. Traffic was suspended. A fanfare blew my praise and a red carpet was laid in front of me up till the chief-car door.

A beautiful woman stepped out and smiled at me. My eyes went wide when I recognised her: Thane's aunt. A formidable woman who was feared in all the continents. What was she doing here herself inviting me in?

Looking at her, I lost all the power to refuse.

"Please come, my darling. The whole world awaits you," she said. "It's almost midnight."

"Aww!" the people around cooed as camera flashes filled the night.

I walked into the car and the convoy zoomed off.

"What are you doing here in the border region, darling?" Madam Patricia asked me, her voice like fake honey.

When I was quiet, she added: "You aren't planning anything funny, are you?"

Still, I uttered no word.

Alpha Thane threw his arms apart when I came down the car. "You got me so worried, angel. You should have told me you went for a walk." He took a meaningful glance at her aunt. "You know how much I can't wait for us to get married, Kya."

He grabbed my waist and kissed me deeply. Again, the female scent on his body made my eye water with unexplainable sadness. I wanted to slap him across the face.

As my best friend worked on my makeup, she kept complaining that I cried too much and ruined her progress.

Celine breezed in and out of my preparation chambers, commending my looks and how cute it was that I cried because it was my big day.

I ended up wearing no makeup as I walked down the aisle. Overhead, the full moon beamed its light on us.

I shut my eyes, and wondered what would happen if I just shouted, "Alpha Thane’s a cheat!"

The wedding vows were made and the after party ensued.

I kept turning the food around on my plate, my damp handkerchief ready to jump onto my eyes. Alpha Thane hardly noticed this as he was focused on Celine.

"This could have been the best ceremony I've witnessed," Celine joked.

Thane frowned playfully, leaning towards her. "Why isn't it, mm?"

Celine shrugged. "The Luna doesn't look so bright."

"My looks shouldn't matter to you, Celine," I snapped, stabbing a liver in my plate, wishing it was hers.

There was silence in the hall.

I couldn't stand this, so I got to my feet. Alpha Thane glared at me, a silent warning in his eyes.

"I want to look at the moon from outside," I mumbled and walked towards the door.

Alpha Thane stood and I subtly slowed down, expecting him to come get me.

But Celine suddenly started coughing and he immediately focused on her, calling for healers.

I ran into the night, my heart shattered in a million pieces.
