Chapter 5

Carmen looked over to her sister for help, but Imogen just turned her head away from her. She then looked to her mom, but Hannah just smiled softly then tilted her head towards the door, silently telling her daughter to leave. Carmen then finally glared up at me, I put a huge smile on my face, then walked right over to her and sat in the chair that she'd so kindly pulled out for me.

She huffed and stomped her foot on the floor like a child, before storming right out of the room. I chuckled on the inside, while I smiled gratefully at Amelia. She smiled back, then sat back and drank her orange juice. I sat there and watched her. Seeing her go for Carmen like that and the words she used, it was like I was watching Freya. I'd never really thought about it before, but she was a hell of a lot like her sister. Strong and stubborn, headstrong and a little crazy. My smile faded and my heart began to hurt as I suddenly realized that I may never see my Fianna again.

Freya Rose

“Freya? Freya, where the hell are you?” I heard a faint call from Selene in my head.

As I stirred from my sleep, I felt groggy and didn't quite know where I was, but gradually my mind began to clear. Shit! I thought and quickly thrust Selene out of my mind, then locked her out. I had been keeping her out so that she didn't know that I'd run away with Kali, instead of meeting her at the safe house. But I guess I let my guard down a little while I was sleeping and she was able to peek into my mind. It was too late now anyway, by the looks of the huge iron gates we were pulling up to, I guessed we were already at the council compound. Selene might track me down at some point, probably through Finnley, but I doubted that she would be able to go up against the council and a ton of hybrids.

I rubbed my eyes and stretched, preparing myself for my new future, as the councils hybrid bitch. Two massive men opened up the giant iron gates and the van in front of us drove through. Kali pulled the car away and followed slowly behind the van. I could hear the iron gates close behind us and lock. This is it, there’s no turning back now. I hope you know what you're doing Freya? I questioned myself.

“We're here Freya,” Kali said softly. I didn't react or say a word. I knew it might provoke her, but I really didn't care by that point. She took off her seat belt and turned to face me. “Look, I know that this whole situation is less than ideal, but the council are good people, they will treat you like a Queen. You'll love it, I promise,” she then patted my shoulder and proceeded to leave the car.

I took my time undoing my seatbelt, then let out a deep sigh. I didn't care if they were going to treat me like a Queen, I wasn't like Kali, I didn't get off on killing or hurting people. The last thing I wanted was to be there, but I knew I had no choice. Kali was there for the power and the destruction, but I was there to keep my loved ones safe.

“You coming, or what?” Kali shouted out as she slammed the car door and began to walk away.

I got out of the car, then gradually followed behind her. We walked up a gravel drive that led up to a large circular fountain that was placed in the middle of a green. The gravel drive curled around either side of it and re-joined in front of a huge mansion. It looked as big as the White House or Buckingham Palace. It was surrounded by lush green grass and a huge forest.

“Welcome home, Freya. It's spectacular isn't it?” She said excitedly as she skipped towards the mansions gray stone steps.

I nodded in agreement. I couldn't deny it, the place really did look spectacular. I continued to follow Kali and suddenly the two enormous wooden front doors to the mansion creaked and began to open. I wondered to myself who was behind them and I gasped when I instantly recognized the two men that walked out of the doors.

“Welcome, my little hunter,” Alpha Jeremy Quinn greeted me.

I furrowed my brow not understanding what a werewolf Alpha was doing here at the hunter's council. But what took my breath away and baffled me even more, was the person standing next to him. Kali ran up to the guy and kissed him passionately, then she whispered softly into his ear,

“See, I told you that your soft and slow approach wouldn't work. I win the bet, I got her here before you did. Now, time to pay up, Sam.”

Freya Rose

I was standing there in complete silence, just staring at Samael with my brows furrowed together. What the hell is he doing here? Why is Kali all over him? Has he been in on this all along? Was he playing me this whole time? Those were just some of the thoughts that were racing around in my mind. I found it hard to fully concentrate on any of the questions that I was asking myself, because Mina was going absolutely berserk, growling and snarling. She was itching to be let out so that she could rip all of them apart.

“Mina, please calm down, I need to think this through,” I asked her calmly in my mind.

“No! Enough with your thinking, it's time for action. Let's rip these things apart, get Finnley and make a run for it,” she snapped at me.

I wanted nothing more than to let her take over control. I could then slip away into the back of my mind and hide away. It would be so easy to do that, but I wouldn't be able to get away from myself and all my incessant questions and thoughts. So, what would be the point? I wouldn't get any peace any way.

“Mina, please. That wouldn't work. I know that you are strong, but think about it logically. Kali is a hybrid. Sam is a vampire Sire and Jeremy is an Alpha. Even if we could beat them all, look who's behind us. Two huge vampire hunter hybrids, two hunters by the gates and Samael's twin brothers. There is no way we can take them all.”

She snarled in response and then let out a low huff. I knew that she didn't like giving up, but she knew I was right and gradually backed away, into the depths of my mind. With Mina now quiet, I could think a little more clearly. I decided to stop asking myself questions, that I clearly wouldn't know the answers to.

“Aww, bless her. Look Sam, she's all confused. You did a good job, she really thought you was her friend,” Kali cackled while she stood next to Samael, with one arm around his back and the other resting on her hip.

I scowled at her. I was trying my best not to just burst into tears. Not because Sam had betrayed me, or because I thought he was my friend. No, actually that did bother me, but not as much as the realization of the dire situation that I was now in. I had come here thinking that I could somehow bring down Kali and the council. But, how could I do that if they had the vampires on their side? Oh, and werewolves too, well, at least one werewolf pack. I needed to compose myself and come up with another plan.

It needed to be a fool proof plan, because I would only get one shot at escape, so it needed proper planning. It could take me some time, but for now what I needed to do, was play along with Kali's stupid games. I needed her on my side, I needed to show her that I was not her competition, not a threat. I was her young and naive niece and she could trust me. I took in a deep breath and prepared to do the best acting of my life.

I doubled over laughing, I mean, I actually bent over and laughed towards the floor, while holding my tummy. I heard Kali gasp at my theatrics. I gradually pulled myself together and pretended to wipe away my non-existent laughter tears. After standing up straight, I strolled confidently towards the three of them. Kali still had her mouth wide open and Sam furrowed his brow at me in confusion. Alpha Quinn, seemed to get what I was doing right away and had a cheeky smile and an impressed look on his face. When I got up the steps and onto the porch, I said with a chuckle,

“Oh my God, you guys are a hoot. I can't believe you went through months of planning. You could have just asked me nicely and told me about this place. Damn, I would have bitten your hand off.” I surged enough angel electricity through me, to make sure when I hit Samael's arm, he'd be able to feel it. “You pair of jokers,” I said as I punched Sam in the arm.

I damn well knew that he felt it, as I heard a pop noise when my knuckles hit him and my hand was left throbbing afterwards. I think I may have even broken a knuckle, but Sam was good, he kept his stern face on and didn't move a muscle. Well, he almost didn't, I heard him gulp and I heard his heart speed up. The first thought that went through my mind was, oh, ok, vampires do have hearts, that's good to know.

“Alpha Quinn, would you do me the honors of escorting me to my room please?” I asked as I approached him.

“Of course, I am at your service,” he replied with a wink, to accompany that cheeky grin he was still wearing.

He held his arm out for me to link, so I placed my hand through his arm and he patted my hand, before guiding me into the mansion.

“Are you two love birds coming, or what?” I shouted back towards Kali and Sam.

I am going to play the snakes at their own game. If they can pretend to be people that they're not, then so can I. Watch out, because here comes twisted bitch Freya Y'all!
