Chapter 5

Elroy looked dazed as the comments on the live stream began to shift:

“Man, no wonder he sticks around. If I had a woman like her as my wife, I’d be a doormat too!”

“This woman has this man wrapped around her finger.”

“I used to think he was just being an ass-kisser; turns out he’s her toy!”

“Oh, his face is turning red. I’m pretty sure bro’s got something rising down there. Is the live stream about to get banned? Hahaha!”

With my kiss on Elroy's cheek, the live stream's popularity soared. Meanwhile, a venomous voice interjected in the comments, “This shameless slut! She's about to divorce her husband but still kissing him. Disgusting!”

I clicked on the commenter's profile—it was none other than Elroy's mistress, who had inherited everything in my past life. Seeing Elroy fall to his knees before me and smitten by me had ruffled her feathers. Knowing this, I played the part even more vigorously. Clinging to Elroy's arm, I showered him with compliments and flirted shamelessly.

“Darling, have I ever told you how cool and handsome you look when you drive? Especially right now, with one hand on the wheel. It makes me think, what if I had a car too, so I could drive it around and look cool like you?”

Elroy was completely at a loss, overwhelmed by my honeyed words. Anything I asked for, he agreed to eagerly, like a devoted puppy.

This only fueled the hate commenter, Sheree's, frenzy, her insults flooding the comment section. I watched her lose her mind with a cold smile, sweetening my tone even more. Finally, unable to contain herself, Sheree called.

Seeing Sheree's name on the screen, Elroy's brows furrowed deeply. I feigned curiosity. “Why aren't you answering the phone? Who's this 'Baby Calhoun'?”

Elroy avoided my gaze, quickly hanging up. “Nothing, just a client.”

“Who names their client Baby Calhoun? Sounds like a pet name for a fox.” I turned on the dramatic flair, throwing myself into the role of the aggrieved wife. I cried and wailed, “You lied to me! Turn around! We're back to City Hall. I want a divorce right now!”

Elroy's face turned pale as he hung up on Sheree's calls. In desperation, he blocked her number in front of me and reassured me repeatedly, “Kaitlin, Honey, I swear, it's just a client. See, I've blocked her. It's a big, fat girl who got drunk and was trying to hit on me. She's been pestering me for money. She's just a gold-digger.”

I glared at him with tear-filled eyes. “Swear on your life that you have no feelings for whoever that was.”

“I swear, I’ve only ever loved you, Honey.” Elroy didn't hesitate. “Baby Calhoun or whatever, they’re all nothing compared to you.”

I was eager to see Sheree’s reaction as she watched the man who once pledged his life to her call her a gold-digger in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers.

“Well, if you say so.” Playing my part as the drama queen, I leaned in and planted another kiss on Elroy’s cheek. “Darling, since we’re out and not heading to City Hall, why don’t we check into a hotel? I’ll give you a baby.” I whispered in his ear, but loud enough for the phone’s microphone to pick up.

Elroy, who hadn’t had his fill of excitement from yesterday, was practically on fire at my words. The comments section exploded with anticipation and excitement. His eyes lit up with eagerness as he took a sharp turn and sped off toward the nearest hotel.

During this time, Sheree called repeatedly, but Elroy rejected all her calls without a second thought. His reasoning was both touching and absurd: “Today is special because I’m getting my wife back. I want it to be just us—no business, no distractions.”

I didn’t contest his reasoning. Instead, I looked out the window, preparing my own little surprise. The anticipation built up inside me as I watched the city view blur past, feeling the thrill of the day's unfolding drama.
