Chapter 2

I could barely sleep. My fingers shook as I spent hours searching for “Drego Knight,” but it was like he had vanished. No social media posts, no news articles — nothing recent at all. Just a few old photos… and then, silence. It felt like he’d never been here at all.

But those images? The resemblance was chilling.

Two perfect faces. One Ice, one fire.

And now, I have no idea which one I am married to.

–––

The next morning, I walked into the kitchen in my silk robe, hoping for a cup of coffee and some quiet. Instead, I found David — shirtless, standing at the counter like a Greek god who owned time itself.

He was backing me, muscles flexing as he stirred something in a silver teapot.

“Good you’re awake, I’m making coffee for both of us” he started.

“I don’t remember signing up for a personal chef,” I responded, crossing my arms.

He turned slowly, his expression unreadable. But that smirk? It felt almost… playful.

“You looked like you needed something to make you feel better. Figured you didn’t sleep well, Wify?”

I narrowed my eyes. “Did you send me that message last night?”

His smile faded. “What message?”

I hesitated. “Forget it.”

He stepped closer, holding out a mug. Our fingers brushed as I took it — it was warm. I looked up at him, his scent was sharp, expensive, and undeniably masculine.

“Elena,” he said quietly, his voice lower than usual, “I don’t play games with people’s heads. You should know that. What message are you referring to?”

“None that you should bother your busy self with,” I said instantly, taking a sip of the coffee.

He gazed at me, shook his head, and walked away.

–––

Later that day, while brushing my hair in the guest bathroom, I caught something out of the corner of my eye.

A shadow in the mirror. Behind me, watching me.

I spun around and saw nothing. The room was empty.

My heart raced, and I had instant goosebumps. I felt like I was being watched. David wasn’t at home, he had gone for a business meeting. I was alone in this mansion and it felt scary.

I walked to the sitting room and curled up on the huge leather couch with a blanket as I turned on the TV to distract myself. That’s when the elevator dinged.

My blood ran cold. I hadn’t heard it open since David left.

Footsteps echoed down the entrance, not creepy or sneaky, but more confident, relaxed. Like someone who already belonged here.

“Elena,” a voice called out — the same tone, the same baritone voice but deeper.

I got up slowly. “David!” I called out as I opened the door

He stepped into view. Same face, same body, but this wasn’t David.

This man wore a black hoodie and sweatpants, with a cute grin. His stubble was well-carved like he had just stepped out from a male saloon. His hair was wavy like some beach waves which suited his beautiful face, his dentition was perfect, his eyes sexy and alluring, and his smell— slightly woody, musky, and fruity.

“You’re not David,” I whispered.

He grinned wider. “No, darling. I’m the twin your husband probably didn’t tell you about.”

“Oh! I didn’t know David had a twin,” I lied “Is he aware you’re coming? I said backing up as he approached me.

“Now you know.” He said, prowling around the room like a wolf eyeing its prey.

“I didn’t inform him of my coming, I heard my dear brother bought himself a little wife. And not just any wife…” He paused, his eyes roaming over me. “You! So I thought I should come take a look.”

My breath caught. “What do you want?”

He paused, glanced at me, and tilted his head.

“I want to know what my brother sees in you. He doesn’t love, he controls, he conquers. But you?” He smirked. “You’ve got his name on your finger, and yet… your eyes say you don’t belong to anyone.”

I lifted my chin. “I think you need to leave, I don’t welcome you, I'm sorry. You can come back when your twin is home.”

“I go where I want, when I want” Drego’s voice darkened. “And I protect what’s mine.”

“I’m not yours,” I shot back.

He chuckled. “Maybe not yet. You belong to my brother, that means you belong to me as well.”

I rolled my eyes at him, with a disdainful look. There’s this thing I do with my eyes, that sometimes I don’t need to spill it out to you, but my eyes speak a thousand words untold. My best friend once said it can pass as a talent.

“You’re feisty and I love it,” he beamed and winked at me.

Suddenly, footsteps thundered behind us as the door clicked open.

David.

His coat still on, his face unreadable. But the tension in the air thickened the moment he set his eyes on Drego.

“What the hell are you doing here?” David’s voice was sharp as ice.

Drego turned slowly, a smirk creeping onto his face. “Just saying hi to your little bride.”

“This isn’t your playground, Drego. Back off!”

For a moment, the twins locked eyes. They had the same face, but their eyes? They were anything but identical.

One looked like fire, the other like ice—ready to explode at any second.

Drego finally turned his gaze and lingered it on me, scanning me from head to toe. Then he smirked again. “See you around, wify”

And with that, he left hurriedly.

As soon as the door slammed shut, David turned to me, his expression tense.

“Did he touch you?” he asked, voice sharp.

“No.”

“Did he say anything?”

“Just enough to freak me out.”

He stepped closer, his tough exterior cracking just a bit. “He’s dangerous, he shouldn’t be here. I’ll get you some security”

“Why didn’t you mention you had a twin?”

His jaw tightened. “Because he doesn’t exist in my life anymore.”

“Clearly, he does,” I shot back. “And now I’m caught up in whatever mess you two have going on.”

David let out a slow breath. “He’ll be back. But next time, don’t engage with him, don’t even open the doors”

My heart raced. “He mentioned he protects what’s his.”

David’s eyes darkened at that. “What and who does he say is his? Was he referring to you?”

I nodded.

Then, to my surprise, he moved closer. Wrapped his arms around my waist, and whispered in my ear:

“Then maybe it’s time you really become mine.”
