Chapter 4

But things didn't go as planned. On Monday morning, I was abruptly awakened by severe leg pain.

I planned to go to the hospital for an examination and messaged Kyra to postpone the divorce.

Then, dragging my painful leg, I limped into the building, intending to ask HR for leave.

As soon as I reached the door, I heard gossip coming from the office.

"Did you hear? Our company has a new General Manager surnamed Rose who just returned from Australia. He's tall and handsome. Seeing his face makes it hard to resist! If only I could have something with him, I'd die without regrets."

"Don't hold your hopes up. This Mr. Rose and Ms. Holmes are childhood friends. Mr. Rose has always been pursuing Holmes. This time, Holmes invited him over, clearly agreeing to his pursuit. What can you compare to Ms. Holmes?"

"Maybe it's mutual. Ms. Holmes hasn't had any scandals in years; maybe she's been waiting for Mr. Rose all along..."

At this, the bitterness in my heart was about to overflow.

Yeah, people who weren't part of that situation might have thought they were a great couple. But for me, the guy who the public had never recognized, it was probably best for me to just move on.

I composed myself and knocked on the door. After explaining my purpose, the HR lady agreed to my leave request and was about to approve my leave slip.

At that moment, a woman walked into the office. From what they said, she was Alan's personal secretary.

The woman looked me up and down, raised her eyebrows, and asked, "Are you Harry Grant?"

She took the leave slip from HR, glanced at it, and then tore it up.

"Today is Mr. Rose's first day. The security team must welcome him in the most grand manner. No one is allowed to take leave. You'd better get back to your post!"

I frowned and said, "I need to go to the hospital for my leg. My reason is valid. What right do you have to refuse me?"

"Hmph, the security booth is several hundred meters away. You managed to walk here, so I don't see any issue with your leg."

I was too lazy to argue with her and turned to leave.

I had never met her before, and her hostility towards me was clearly Alan's idea.

The pain in my leg was getting worse, and I didn't have time to waste on such petty people.

The woman's face lost its composure, and she yelled at my back, "If you dare step out of this building, it means you're defying the leadership. Don't even think about getting your salary for this month!"

I stopped. The woman had a look of "I knew you wouldn't dare," but she didn't expect me to take off my badge and throw it hard in her face.

"I quit! If you dare withhold my salary, you can expect a lawsuit!"
