Chapter 4

I didn't know when I fell asleep tonight.

In my dream, I dreamed of my parents and kid!

The baby held the hands of his grandparents and asked me where his father was. I didn't know how to answer for a moment. Later, I wanted to hug him. Despite the close distance, I couldn't reach him no matter what.

I didn't know how long it had been. When I woke up, I was sitting on the sofa, with tears soaking my clothes.

In the morning, Spencer came over after getting up.

"Can't you just let it go since it has happened?"

"You are torturing yourself as well as torturing me!"

I was curious why there was no trace of sadness on Spencer's face when his child was gone.

I asked back, "Cheering myself up?"

...

"Spencer, why do I have to let go?"

"Do you know the situation at that time?"

"My parents tightly held the child in their arms. When they arrived at the hospital, only the child was still breathing!"

"He is such a small person, covered in blood. The blood is his own and his grandparents'. Do you know what the child asked me before his last breath?"

"He asked me if his father didn't want him anymore and why hadn't he shown up. He missed his father!"

"Spencer! At that time, where were you? You are sleeping with Kate!"

I got up and left. When I was about to leave, I turned around and said, "Let's get divorced. The divorce agreement is on the coffee table!"

Spencer stood still in place.

On that day, I went to an amusement park, a cinema, and an astronomical museum.

These were all the child's favorite places when he was alive. Every time we were here before, he would ask me why his father didn't accompany him.

When I was young, I was afraid that he would hold a grudge against his father. I lied and said, "Dad will accompany you as soon as he finishes his work!"

But my little child never knew that his father didn't want him anymore.

After a day's journey, I returned to my parents' house at night.

The house was eerily quiet. There were photos of them on the wall. They had been laughing and talking just a few days ago!

The corners of the room were filled with the child's toys.

My child had never been loved by his grandparents since he was born. The Horne family thought that I came from a humble background and that my child wouldn't achieve anything in the future. So, when the child was born, he was rejected by the Horne family.

But my parents sincerely loved the child. They took care of him for me and accompanied him as he grew up, making him live happily in his childhood.

One year during Christmas, I took the child to the Horne family.

The elders in the Horne family prepared gifts for every child, even the children of the nanny, but they didn't prepare one for my son.

At that time, my child held my hand and asked me, "Grandpa and grandma don't like me, right, Mom?"

Looking at his face, I didn't know what to say.

To prevent the child from resenting his grandparents, I kept lying over and over again.

Sometimes, I even forgot if what I said was true or not.

But even so, that kind-hearted child would never come back.
