Chapter 1

*REMEMBER THAT THIS GETS DARKER AS YOU READ AND THE FIRST STORY IS A SLOW-BURN.*

JAYDEN’s POV

Rafael, son of Alpha Zane, isn’t just some glorified titleholder designed to make the females swoon and the Betas bark in submission. He is young, sinfully handsome, and tall with a broad chest that begged for tongues to slide over.

The first time I heard his voice on TV, every word from his mouth curled like claws around my throat.

But what would someone like him want with someone like me? Would he even glance twice if we crossed paths in the darkened halls of the city?

And if by some twisted fate we collided... I mean if our scents tangled in the air, would he ever choose a filthy Omega? Would he claim me? And would he want to be with a fellow male?

I’m just a castaway. An Omega with no wolf. No home. No power.

And with all that, my body betrays me at the thought of him. I’ve whimpered in the dark, imagining his growl at my neck and his hand gripping my throat as I stroke myself with my slick fingers.

With each fantasy, I twitch like a bitch in heat.

“Jayden, are you coming with me or not? This might be your last chance,” Sophia called from outside the cracked wall, her voice echoing into the living room like the last rope out of hell.

I wiped my sweaty palms on my jeans and went.

She smiled softly when I stepped out like she pitied me but didn’t know how to say it without sounding cruel.

She’s another Omega in the pack. But unlike me, she has a wolf. She has a warm bed. A shitty but steady job. She has options.

I could curse my parents for siring me, for giving me nothing but shame and a broken bond. If I had a second chance at life, I would beg to be born as anything else.

Beta. Rogue. Even prey.

Sophia led me to the private hotel suite, a high-end place for higher-ranking wolves. The kind of place where Alphas came to eat, sleep, and do whatever they like with whoever dared to enter their territory.

We entered, and she took me straight to meet the manager. A man with ice-blue eyes and a voice slicker than oil. His gaze raked over me like I was meat. Just something to taste and toss.

I tried to grin, but my stomach knotted. I dropped my gaze quickly, avoiding eye contact.

“You’re beautiful,” he murmured.

“Thank you,” I replied, my voice barely a whisper.

He leaned back in his leather seat with a smirk. “I’ll take him.”

Sophia turned and gave me a smile, warm enough to make my eyes sting.

As we walked down the hallway, Sophia explained the rules, though I barely heard any, until we reached the kitchen and tied on our aprons. The air inside was thick with the scents of herbs, roasted meats, and the buzzing nerves of every low-ranked wolf trying not to make mistakes.

Sophia and I joined the queue of waiters and waitresses who were all lined up with trays in their hands and their heads lowered as the kitchen head barked out orders. Then we were each handed a sticky note bearing a room number.

“Room 1705,” mine read.

I left the kitchen with the others, walking in single file through the winding hallway of the Luxura Private Hotel Suite. Each step up the stairs made my heart beat faster. By the time I reached the top, I could feel it almost jumping out of my chest.

I knocked softly but the door creaked open all on its own. That’s weird. But then, some unfamiliar scent caught my nose—Spiced cedar. Burnt amber. Warm leather and pure Alpha heat.

It washed over me in a wave, flooding my senses, knocking air out of my lungs. My knees trembled slightly. A whimper curled at the edge of my lips, but I bit it back.

I stepped inside the room, cautiously, my eyes darting across the dim space. It was silent and empty. No footsteps. No presence. It was just that scent all around.

Whoever was staying here clearly wasn’t in. I would just drop the tray and go. I placed the food carefully on the drawer near the bed and turned toward the door. Then I stopped.

Did Sophia say anything about guests being absent? Were we allowed to just drop the food?

Shit.

I hadn’t listened well enough.

Cursing under my breath, I reached for the door. But my hand stalled on the knob. My instincts screamed at me. I turned back, hurrying to the drawer to retrieve the tray. My hands curled around it and as I was still bent forward, I heard a soft click as a door creaked open behind me.

My fingers clenched tighter around the tray as I straightened slowly, my spine stiff. The air behind me felt different now—charged and dominant.

I turned around slowly only to see Alpha Rafael.

Tall. Bare-chested. Drops of water trailed down the ridges of his stomach like they worshipped him. A towel hung low on his hips, barely clinging to decency.

His silver eyes—cold, piercing and possessive—landed on me like a blade to the throat. Then, it rolled to trail down my nape.

My heart raced faster as my legs shook until something stirred inside me. I tightened my grip on the tray as my blood warmed up.

~He’s cute. I like him.~

What…? I looked around quickly, my eyes darting left to right. But the room was empty. It was just me and… him. But, he’s still yet to say a word.
