Blood Moon Contract
Chapter 6
Chapter 6
By morning when Mara woke up, she knew she had to re-strategize. The reason she had been so hell-bent was because the resentment she held on to to find Keal and kill him was gone.
She had thought he was a monster but instead, what she found was a kind man who disguised himself as a monster to protect his people.
She experienced a rogue attack herself and she couldn’t just brush what she saw away.
“You’re up?” Elin said, walking into the room.
Without responding, Mara climbed out of the bed and rushed into the bathroom. The last thing she wanted was for anyone to cloud her thoughts.
She had just a few days to kill Keal and the more people acted or pretended to be nice to her, the harder it got.
Back home, her thoughts were sternly kill on sight but it’d be dumb for anyone to think a dangerous man like Keal would be easy to take down like that.
Men like him usually have weaknesses and their weakness ends up being the road to their death.
“What are you doing in there? The Alpha has decided to take you with him for hunting today!”
“Hunting?” Mara cut into Elin’s words.
“I’m as surprised as you are! He’s usually not this friendly to strangers because many are sent to assassinate him and they most times end up being the road trail to his death.” She paused for emphasis.
“But you seem harmless I guess.”
Mara frowned. Those didn’t sound like compliments to her but if looking harmless was what would aid her in getting close to Keal then she believed she could work with it.
“Men like Keal always have a dark side! I have to find his dark side to hold on to so it can drive me to achieve my mission here!” Mara whispered to herself, repeating the words a few too many times.
Finally, she left the restroom and met with Elin who had some clothes laid out on the bed for her.
“I figured out that you don’t have any clothes with you, your bag is almost empty, just a blanket and some other items so I brought you one of mine. I’ve not worn it before because I tried it, it was too small which means it’ll fit you perfectly!” she said, causing Mara to respond with a nod.
“I brought you some food as well...”
“Do I have to pay for that?” she inquired and Elin burst into laughter immediately.
“With the look I just saw on your face, I’m convinced that you do not have any money with you.”
Mara suddenly felt embarrassed. She looked down at her hands and lied, “I was robbed on my way here...”
Elin’s face suddenly turned pale. “Fucking hell! I’m so sorry about that, I know how devastating it can be. You’re very lucky Alpha Keal found you because you see those woods, I won’t advise anyone to go through them alone,” she said and moved closer to Mara as if trying to comfort her.
Elin pressed her body against Mara, wrapping her hands around Mara’s back before murmuring, “You’re in safe hands now, I promise you, Alpha Keal is a protector and a provider. The moon goddess happened to give this village the best Alpha they can be.” Elin praised him so hard that Mara started to feel sick in her stomach.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, one that made both ladies compose themselves.
Elin rushed towards the door and opened it. “What’s taking her so long?”
“She’s not ready yet, don’t worry she’ll join you in a few minutes.”
Keal was impatient. He wasn’t just going for hunting in the woods but he had other plans. He was having a meeting with the leader of the neighboring territory. He wanted an alliance because the woods were becoming too unsafe and it didn’t sit well with him.
He responded with a nod and walked out, deciding to wait by his horse.
Throughout the night, he was unable to sleep. His thoughts had been clouded and it was difficult for him to think because he had lost the hope of finding a mate and was ready to settle for any woman that he ends up finding attractive and has the ability to be a leader so she can stand tall beside him as his Luna.
Keal has never liked strangers. He has always been skeptical about it because they’ve always ended up proving his suspicion about them right.
Time without number, people have been sent to assassinate him, people have been sent to harm his pack members.
“Hey. I’m sorry I kept you waiting,” Mara said, interrupting his thoughts.
“There’s no problem. Can you ride a horse?” he asked and she responded with a small nod.
“I can but I won’t call myself a pro,” Mara responded.
“Well, too bad I don’t teach people how to ride horses so you’ll ride with me.”
Mara got on the horse with him and they rode into the forest.
She felt warm and for a moment, she forgot all about her mission, she forgot that she wanted to kill the man behind her.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“Where did Elin say?”
“Hunting.”
Keal suddenly burst into laughter and ran his hand through his hair before hurrying the horse to move faster.
Suddenly, they stopped in the middle of trees and woods. Keal got down and helped Mara down from the horse.
“Why did we stop here? I noticed you don’t have any arrow with you! What do you plan to use for hunting?”
“We didn’t come here to hunt, we came here for something else,” Keal responded.
“What? What did we come here for? I hate being kept in the dark! Talk to me!” Mara said, trying to make Keal talk.
Keal just moved back a little and rubbed his palms together. “Some men will be here any moment from now and I want you to stay close to me.”
