8.5 / 10.0
During a corporate afterparty, billionaire Mr. Spencer is blindsided when his assistant, Charlie Langford, produces scandalous photos and demands he take responsibility for a supposed affair. Despite Spencer being a straight man whose only contact with Charlie was providing a ride through his driver, Lorelei Green, the assistant threatens a public suicide to force a marriage alliance. This mystery romance explores how a simple act of kindness was warped into a blackmail scheme.

Blackmail Marriage Backfires on My Assistant Chapter 1

At the company's afterparty, my assistant, Charlie Langford, lodges a complaint against me while holding a stack of racy photos.

"Ms. Spencer, after you slept with me, you told me that you'd take responsibility for me. Why are you entering a marriage alliance with another family soon?

"Who did you take me for? A plaything? Then I might as well jump off this building right now just to prove my innocence!"

H-Hey now!

The only time I've made private contact with Charlie is when I had my driver, Lorelei Green, give him a ride half a month ago purely out of convenience!

How on earth did Charlie warp that encounter into having physical intimacy with me?

Moreover, I'm a straight man! Why would I even have that sort of relationship with Charlie, to begin with?

Charlie Langford's face was flushed red with anger. I held my wine glass so tightly that my fingers turned pale… because I wasn't the real CEO.

Two months ago, my older sister, Madeline Spencer, was in a car accident. As of now, she was still lying in the ICU, unconscious. Spencer Group had just gone public. It couldn't survive even the slightest scandal.

Madeline and I were fraternal twins. We were almost the same height and shared extremely similar facial features. So, I put on women's clothes and stepped into her place, becoming the CEO.

I forced myself to imitate her cool, commanding voice, trying to steady the situation. "Mr. Langford, I don't quite understand what you mean. You said something happened between us. At least tell me the details."

My mind was racing. If this were truly one of Madeline's romantic messes, our family could—however reluctantly—afford to keep a pretty boy on the payroll. Still, we absolutely couldn't have a scandal break out at a celebration party like this.

Charlie refused to back down. He stepped forward and flung several photos hard against my face. "The details? Ms. Spencer, you sure are forgetful, aren't you? Two weeks ago, that night of the storm, you said you'd drop me off at home since it was on your way.

"In the car, you… Did you really forget how you abused your power and did whatever you did to me?"

Two weeks ago? My tense mind immediately found a second to relax.

Madeline was still on a ventilator two weeks ago. She could barely even turn over in bed, let alone take advantage of her male assistant. That said, I had, indeed, given him a ride that night.

It was pouring. My car had just pulled out of the underground garage when I saw Charlie standing by the roadside, soaked through the bone, awkwardly trying to hail a cab.

It was rush hour, and plenty of employees were watching. I was playing the role of Good Boss Madeline, knowing I couldn't look indifferent. As such, I told the driver to stop.

The entire time, I sat in the back seat with my eyes closed, pretending to rest. I didn't say a single word to him. I only told the driver to drop him off at the entrance of his residential complex.

It turned out Charlie had been plotting since that day. There was no way this had anything to do with the poor Madeline, and even less with me, which meant this performance tonight was nothing but a naked setup.

I turned the photos over in my hand, my expression slowly shifting into something amused. If this were the game he chose, count me in.

"You know, Charlie, you can't just say whatever you like. You claim I did something to you in the car. What—a few blurry photos are supposed to prove that?"

As if anticipating my question, he pulled out his phone and held it up for everyone to see. "This is the evidence! It's the promise you made to me that night!"
