Chapter 1

My phone wouldn't stop buzzing.

I reached for it groggily, squinting at the screen showing dozens of message notifications flooding in. The timestamp read 6:47 AM. Too early for this much activity.

The first message was from my roommate Lily: *Harper, wake up NOW. Something terrible is happening.*

My stomach clenched as I opened it. A link to the university forum followed by: *I'm so sorry. Everyone's seeing it.*

The link led to a thread with my name in the title. My heart pounded as I clicked it, then froze as images filled my screen. Photos of me—intimate, private moments I'd only shared with Reece—splashed across the university forum for everyone to see. Me in lingerie. Me in compromising positions. Photos I'd sent only to him during our two years together, in moments of vulnerability and trust.

The caption read: *Columbia's 'Pure Goddess' Harper Stevens—not so pure after all.*

My hands trembled so badly I dropped the phone. The room spun around me as nausea rose in my throat. Two thousand views already. Comments pouring in. My reputation—everything I'd built—crumbling in real time.

I managed to throw on clothes and stumbled from my dorm room, keeping my head down as whispers and stares followed me across campus. I caught fragments of conversations that stopped when I passed.

"Did you see what Harper Stevens—"

"I always knew that perfect act was—"

"Sent to everyone in the department—"

The library was my only sanctuary, its quiet corners offering escape. I locked myself in a bathroom stall, pressing my forehead against the cool metal door as tears streamed down my face. Two years at Columbia building my reputation as the serious academic, the dependable teaching assistant, the girl who earned her perfect GPA through dedication rather than privilege—all destroyed overnight.

I heard the bathroom door open, followed by familiar voices that made my blood freeze.

"You sure this is the best way to handle it?" The voice was Sawyer's—warm, passionate Sawyer who whispered sweet words against my skin at night.

"It's the cleanest solution." That cold, measured tone belonged to Reece—my boyfriend of two years, brilliant and reserved.

I covered my mouth to stifle my breathing, lifting my feet off the floor.

"Two years of this shit, Reece. Wasn't there an easier way to get her recommendation for Teresa?"

Two years? Teresa? My mind spun, trying to process what I was hearing.

"Playing day shift while you took nights was the only way to keep her completely controlled," Reece replied. "You got what you wanted—plenty of nights with the campus princess—and I got what Teresa needed. Now Harper's reputation is gone, no one will believe anything she says if she somehow figures it out, and Teresa gets the recommendation she deserves."

The stall seemed to shrink around me as their words sank in. Day shift. Night shift. For two years, I hadn't been dating one man—I'd been unknowingly involved with twins, switching places, manipulating every aspect of my life.

"Did you have to release the photos, though?" Sawyer asked, his tone more annoyed than concerned.

"Insurance," Reece said dismissively. "If she discovers anything, she's too humiliated to speak up. Besides, Teresa deserves that recommendation. Harper was just a means to an end."

Their voices faded as they left, unaware of my presence. I slid down to the bathroom floor, my entire reality fracturing around me. The perfect boyfriend who was cold and brilliant during the day but passionate and warm at night—it had been two different men. Two years of calculated deception.

I don't know how long I sat there, pieces falling into place. The occasional nights when Reece seemed different. The strange inconsistencies in his memory. All this time, I'd been a pawn in their game, manipulated for a recommendation letter they wanted for Teresa Hill—the girl Reece actually wanted.

When I finally stood, something had hardened inside me. I walked across campus to Reece's dorm, ignoring the stares and whispers that followed. When he opened the door, surprise briefly flashed across his face before his usual mask of cool indifference returned.

"Harper, this isn't a good—"

I pushed past him and found both brothers in the room. Sawyer lounging on the bed, Reece by his desk. The perfect twins with their perfect plan.

"Tell me about the day shift and night shift," I said, my voice surprisingly steady despite the hurricane raging inside me.
