Kairi Murray returned to her quarters with a bright red handprint on her cheek, waiting for Michael Garcia to return and set things right. She knew I had my own struggles to deal with, but she was certain Michael’s feelings for her were different. She couldn’t believe he would let Alina Stone get away with such blatant disrespect.

She waited and waited, from dawn till dusk, but Michael never came. Panic began to creep into her heart. Whenever he returned, he always sought her out, even if it was just to sit and talk for a while. Those moments had always been enough to calm her anxieties. But now, her mind raced with terrifying possibilities. Had something happened to him?

She shot up from her seat and bolted out the door, desperate to find me and ask for information. She moved so quickly that she barely noticed the pain in her ribs from her uneven breaths. The vibrant greenery and flowers along the path went unnoticed as she hurried toward the garden. As she approached the rose bushes, she heard a burst of girlish laughter.

“No, no, Michael! Over here, quick!” The voice was light and melodic, but to Kairi, it sounded like a nightmare. It was Alina. And who else could she be calling “Michael”?

Kairi slowed her pace, tiptoeing closer until she saw Michael gently cupping a firefly in his hands, carefully placing it into Alina’s palm. Alina’s eyes sparkled with delight as she cradled the tiny insect. “Michael, you’re amazing! I declare you the most incredible person in the entire world.”

Michael stood beside her, his gaze tender, as if he were admiring something priceless. “When will you ever grow up, Alina?” he teased.

She pouted, sticking out her tongue. “I don’t want to grow up. I want to stay by your side forever, as long as you’ll have me.”

“You’re impossible. What kind of girl says she’ll never find a mate?” Michael chuckled.

At that, Alina’s cheeks flushed, and she looked away shyly. “None of those other males could ever compare to you, Michael…” Her words were a clear confession, and her gaze happened to fall on Kairi, who stood frozen in the distance.

“You! What are you doing here, spying on us?” Alina’s shrill voice snapped Kairi out of her trance. Kairi quickly stepped forward, bowing her head and explaining that she was merely passing by.

“Passing by? You’ve been watching us this whole time, haven’t you? First, you’re caught snooping around Michael’s office, and now you’re here, spying on us. Do you have no shame? Can’t you survive without clinging to a male?”

Alina then turned to Michael, tugging at his sleeve like a child. “Michael, how can you let such a disrespectful Omega roam freely in your pack? I don’t know how Holly manages her pack, but this is unacceptable. She should be punished severely for this.”

Kairi’s heart raced as she protested, “I wasn’t snooping, and I wasn’t spying. I swear, I was just passing through. Michael knows I’ve been working in his office. How could I possibly steal anything?”

“Don’t lie! Omegas aren’t allowed in Michael’s office. Who do you think you are, working there?” Alina shot back.

“Whether I work there or not can be verified easily. Alina, as the niece of the Lycan Queen, your actions reflect on her. Accusing me without evidence and striking me like this—does that not tarnish her reputation?” Kairi lifted her head, revealing the swollen, red mark on her face.

Alina seethed inwardly, furious that a lowly Omega dared to talk back to her. But outwardly, she feigned distress, her voice trembling as she turned to Michael. “Michael, I didn’t mean to hit her. I was just so worried about you that I acted without thinking.”

Michael patted her shoulder, his tone soothing. “It’s alright. You were just concerned. Next time, try to control your temper, okay?”

“Just a servant?” Kairi whispered, her heart sinking.
