Betrayed by My Fated Alpha

8.7 / 10.0
As a member of the impoverished Dusthaven Pack, attending the elite Spencer Pack's lavish lakeside gathering was never my choice. While my ambitious father and stepmother view this high-society event as our golden ticket to social elevation, I only want to survive the night. Yet, surrounded by powerful Alphas and high-ranking wolves in designer gowns, this breathtaking night of luxury is destined to unravel my quiet life, sparking a dangerous passion that will alter my fate forever.

Betrayed by My Fated Alpha Chapter 1

The regional gathering was nothing like I'd expected.

Dusthaven Pack didn't usually attend these events. We were too small, too broke, too irrelevant to warrant an invitation from the eastern elite. But this year, the Spencer Pack—one of the most powerful on the East Coast—had extended invitations to every pack in the region, no matter how minor. My father, Jared, had been thrilled. My stepmother Lucy had spent weeks preparing, treating it like our one shot at social elevation.

I just wanted to get through it without embarrassing anyone.

The lakeside estate was breathtaking. Candlelight flickered across the water, reflecting off the glass walls of the main hall. Wolves in formal attire filled the space—Alphas, Betas, high-ranking she-wolves in designer gowns. I felt small in my simple dress, a soft gray thing Lucy had deemed "appropriate for your rank." Kevin had squeezed my hand before we walked in. "You look fine," he'd said quietly. "Don't let them make you feel like you don't."

I'd smiled at him, grateful. Kevin always knew.

The evening blurred into polite small talk and careful navigation. I stayed near the edges, observing. That was my skill—watching, listening, filing things away. I noticed how the elite she-wolves moved, the way they commanded space without raising their voices. I noticed the Alphas, their auras pressing against the room like weather systems.

And then I smelled it.

Cedar and rain. Warm, earthy, impossibly clean. It hit me so hard I actually stopped mid-step, my hand tightening on the champagne flute I'd been holding. My wolf—quiet, unremarkable, the wolf I'd always thought was as forgettable as the rest of me—suddenly surged forward with a violence that nearly buckled my knees.

*Mate.*

The word exploded through my mind, not in my voice but in hers—my wolf's voice, wild and desperate and absolutely certain. My heart slammed against my ribs. I turned, searching the crowd, and that's when I saw him.

He was crossing the hall directly toward me.

Alpha Bradley Spencer. I knew who he was—everyone did. Tall, broad-shouldered, with dark hair and the kind of presence that made other wolves instinctively step aside. His eyes locked on mine, and the rest of the room seemed to fall away. He moved with purpose, his stride confident and unhurried, and the scent grew stronger with every step.

Cedar and rain. My mate.

He stopped in front of me, close enough that I had to tilt my head back to meet his gaze. His eyes were storm-gray, intense, searching. For a moment, neither of us spoke. The noise of the gathering faded into background static.

"You," he said softly, his voice low and rough. "I've been looking for you."

I couldn't speak. My throat had closed. My wolf was howling, a sound of pure joy and relief and recognition that made my hands shake.

Bradley reached out slowly, his fingers brushing my wrist. The contact sent a shock through me, electric and grounding all at once. "What's your name?"

"Emma," I managed. "Emma Morales."

"Emma." He said it like he was testing the weight of it. Then he smiled, and it was the kind of smile that made my chest ache. "I'm Bradley Spencer. And you're my mate."

The words hung in the air between us. Around us, the crowd had started to notice. Conversations were stopping. Heads were turning. I saw my father's face across the room, his eyes wide with shock. Lucy's hand flew to her mouth.

Bradley didn't seem to care about any of it. He kept his gaze on me, his thumb brushing the inside of my wrist in a way that made my pulse stutter.

"I know this is sudden," he said quietly. "But I need you to know—I've been waiting for you. The Moon Goddess brought you to me tonight, and I'm not letting you go."

Tears pricked my eyes. I'd never been chosen for anything. Never been first. Never been enough. And now this—this impossibly powerful Alpha, standing in front of everyone, claiming me.

"I—" My voice cracked. "I feel it too."

His smile widened, and he turned to address the room, his voice carrying the unmistakable weight of an Alpha's authority. "I, Bradley Spencer, Alpha of the Silvercrest Pack, declare before the Moon Goddess and all assembled packs that I have found my fated mate—Emma Morales of the Dusthaven Pack."

The hall erupted. Gasps, applause, murmurs of shock and approval. I saw my father weeping—actually weeping—while Lucy clutched his arm, her expression a mix of disbelief and strategic calculation. Kevin stood near the back, his face unreadable.

But I also saw something else. Just for a second. Bradley's Beta—a sharp-eyed man named Marcus—exchanged a glance with an older wolf seated in the back row. One of the Spencer elders, I thought. The look was brief, loaded with something I couldn't name.

Then Bradley's hand cupped my cheek, turning my attention back to him, and the moment was gone.

"The Mate Ceremony will be the event of the decade," he said, his voice warm and certain. "I want every pack in the region to witness this. You deserve that, Emma. You deserve everything."

I believed him. The Moon Goddess help me, I believed every word.
