Chapter 1

My childhood friend fell in love with the new transfer student.

To win her favor, Andrew Smith didn't hesitate to accuse me of cheating.

Afterward, he casually said, "Sorry," but I had already lost the postgraduate recommendation that I had worked so hard to secure.

When I wanted to fight back, he said, "Daisy White, isn't it just a postgraduate recommendation?"

"Why are you making such a big deal out of it?"

"I'm really getting more and more disappointed in you!"

Later, he personally pushed me to the ground, causing me to hit my head and leaving me in a critical condition.

When I woke up, I remembered everyone, except Andrew.

Yet Andrew knelt before me, almost losing his mind, "Daisy, how could you forget our ten years of friendship?"

"Daisy, I'll say it again, I hope you can voluntarily give up your postgraduate recommendation."

This was the third time Andrew had blocked my path for the sake of the postgraduate slot.

Looking at the increasingly unfamiliar person in front of me, I found it laughable. "Andrew, I earned this through hard work. What right do you have to ask me to give it up?"

"Just consider it for my sake. Usan Brown really needs this recommendation, but you're different. Your grades are so good that even without the recommendation, you can still get into your dream university," Andrew responded carelessly.

"Andrew, to be honest, even if I give it up, what difference does it make? With Usan's poor grades, the recommendation won't go to her anyway." Changing my tone, I continued mockingly, "As for you, instead of wasting time pestering me, why don't you tutor your little lover a bit more?"

Perhaps because I mentioned his little lover, Andrew's face alternated between blue and white, his body trembling with anger. He threw out, "Usan was right. Daisy, when did you become so unreasonable? I'm really disappointed in you." Then he left as if fleeing.

Watching his retreating figure, a wave of speechlessness washed over me. Who's really being unreasonable here...

After Andrew left, Usan eagerly approached me, flaunting her victory. "It seems you're not all that. Daisy, you're so pathetic. What does it matter that you and Andrew grew up together? He's still on my side, isn't he?"

I couldn't be bothered with her and turned to leave.

Usan's voice screeched behind me. "Daisy, just wait, I'll make sure you pay!"

2

I returned to my seat, and my deskmate, indignant on my behalf, said, "I saw everything. How could Andrew and Usan bully you like that!"

I shook my head, indicating that I had no idea either.

Usan had been making trouble for me since the beginning, ever since she transferred to our class this semester.

Stupid—that was my first impression of her. Not out of prejudice, but because it's a fact.

Usan was always muttering strange things, claiming she was destined to be the female lead of a grand story, and on her first day, she blocked Andrew, saying she had a crush on him.

Back then, Andrew even complained to me, saying how weird this new student was, always acting foolishly in front of him.

But gradually, those complaints turned into praises. Whenever we interacted, Andrew mentioned Usan more and more frequently. Perhaps even he didn't realize that Usan was already occupying a significant place in his heart.

He began to flake on me more often, always to be with Usan.

Later, Andrew personally asked the teacher to sit with Usan.

By then, Andrew and I had been desk mates for nearly ten years. We had promised to be desk mates for life, to go to the same university.

But... promises were eventually broken.

And my feelings for Andrew became increasingly difficult to express.

Andrew was never short of girls chasing after him, but he always kept a proper distance from them, except for me, his childhood friend, and the new girl, Usan.

Maybe that's why Usan never liked me. She warned me more than once, "Stop those little thoughts of yours and stay away from my Andrew!"

But I hadn't spoken to Andrew in a long time—or rather, it was Andrew who had been ignoring me.

What she didn't know was that as soon as Andrew asked to change seats, as soon as he repeatedly ditched me for Usan, my heart had already begun to waver. Was liking Andrew really the right thing to do?

I didn't know.

I soon found out how Usan planned to "make sure I pay."

During a chemistry experiment, the counselor suddenly walked in with a stern face and asked me to step out.

Everyone around froze—they knew this was a sign that the counselor was about to lose his temper.

I noticed that Andrew's seat was empty, and when Usan shot me a disdainful smile, I suddenly had a guess about what was going on.

Following the counselor into the principal's office, I indeed saw Andrew there. His head was bowed, not even giving me a glance.

"Someone reported that your recent exam results were achieved through cheating," the counselor said bluntly.

"But, teacher, you've seen my competition results..." I instinctively defended myself.

The counselor presented the so-called evidence—a screenshot of a chat where "I" asked Andrew to help me cheat.

"That's not me," I said, frowning.

"Daisy," Andrew, who had been silent, suddenly spoke, "Didn't you always say that when you do something wrong, you should own up to it?"

I finally looked at him, expressionless. We stared at each other for a long time.

The truth was still unclear, and I couldn't immediately find evidence to prove my innocence. In the end, I had to voluntarily give up my postgraduate recommendation.

Andrew and I walked out of the office, one after the other. Halfway down the corridor, he suddenly stopped and said, "I'm sorry."

I walked past him as if I hadn't heard.

I wandered aimlessly, feeling a wave of helplessness.

Returning to the classroom, I heard Usan loudly proclaiming, "I never expected Daisy to be that kind of person. How can she be so unaware of herself?"

A group of classmates surrounded her, and when they saw me return, their faces showed awkwardness.

What kind of person am I? Whatever, I had no energy to care about that. Just as I was about to ignore everything and head back to my seat, I saw Usan take something out.

"Look, Andrew gave me this bracelet!" She held up the bracelet and flaunted it in front of everyone.

But that bracelet...

It was the birthday gift I had given to Andrew!

Andrew had casually mentioned, "Daisy, your bracelet is really pretty."

But I remembered it so well.

I carefully chose a similar bracelet, wrapped it with care, and buried my feelings within it, only for it to now be displayed so casually by Usan in front of everyone!

I swallowed my anger, pushed through the crowd, and coldly demanded, "Give me back the bracelet!"

My tone left no room for refusal.

The surrounding people were so shocked by the scene that they couldn't speak.

Usan looked at me and smiled faintly, but her voice turned sharp, "Daisy, just because you can't have Andrew's affection, does that mean you have to snatch things from me?"

I stared at her with a blank expression, enunciating each word clearly, "This is my bracelet."

"Do you think just because you say it's yours, it actually is?" Usan ignored me.

Maybe anger got the better of me, I was about to reach out and grab it.

But then a voice angrily shouted from behind me, "Daisy, what are you trying to do to Usan!"

My body trembled violently as I realized the situation—Usan was curled up like a frightened rabbit, her whole body in a ball, looking innocently at Andrew, softly calling out, "Andrew..."

And I had become a tyrant in everyone else's eyes.

5

Andrew stormed over, roughly yanking me back and shielding Usan behind him.

"Daisy, if you have any complaints, direct them at me!"

I looked down at the red marks left on my wrist from his forceful grip, feeling something inside me shatter. Andrew had actually treated me so harshly...

In the past, even if I got a tiny mosquito bite, he would worry over it and blow on it gently.

Seeing the tension, some classmates tried to intervene, "We're all classmates, let's talk it out, no need to get physical."

But Usan's words made the atmosphere tense again.

"Yes, Andrew, don't be mad. If Daisy wants the bracelet, she can have it. Just don't argue because of me."

"This bracelet was mine to begin with." After a long silence, I finally spoke. "Andrew, I gave this to you before."

I saw the panic in Andrew's eyes. I knew he remembered, but he still refused to admit it.

Instead, he gently coaxed Usan, "Usan, give her this bracelet. I'll get you an even prettier one, okay?"

Reluctantly, Usan handed it to me. I reached out to take it, but just as I was about to grab it, Usan suddenly let go.

The bracelet fell to the ground, and the crowd grew restless because the counselor had arrived.

I watched helplessly as the bracelet was trampled by the crowd, shattered, just like my feelings for Andrew.

This was the last time, Andrew. I will never love you again. I thought love was never something essential to me. So even if it breaks my heart, I will sever it promptly. As for that postgraduate recommendation, I'll consider it a repayment for the life-saving grace he offered me years ago.

After all, it's just a postgraduate recommendation. Even without it, I can still get into my dream university.

The school administration had also said that due to the questionable nature of the incident, they would only revoke my recommendation and not impose any further punishment.

As for Andrew, I finally realized that I had been wrong about him all along.

6

Even after the announcement of the guaranteed graduate admissions, rumors about me falsifying my grades quietly spread around the campus.

Some curious people approached Andrew to ask about the truth of the matter, but Andrew remained silent—neither denying nor confirming anything.

Occasionally, he would look up and our eyes would meet, only for him to quickly look away.

The rumors grew louder, eventually escalating to claims that even my competition results were bought with connections and money.

Despite seeing my daily efforts with their own eyes, they still chose to believe these baseless accusations.

Every day after class, a crowd would gather outside our classroom, just to catch a glimpse of the "number one cheater."

No matter where I went on campus, there were always people giving me strange looks, whispering, "Look, that's the one who cheats to stay at the top."

My life was undeniably disrupted.

Unable to bear it any longer, I finally asked my parents to investigate the matter for me—not to clear my name, as these people only cared about the drama, and the truth would be ignored—but to send those spreading the rumors to jail, making an example out of them.

With my parents' intervention, the truth was quickly uncovered.

As I suspected, this was all Usan's doing. Although she had been careful, she still left traces.

With evidence in hand, I prepared to sue Usan, when suddenly, Andrew, who had been absent for so long, appeared in front of me.

"What are you here for?" I looked at him warily.

"Daisy, could you forgive Usan this once?"
