I Became Part of My Childhood Crush's Affair with a Scummy Woman Chapter 1

When I saw the letter breaking off our engagement, I had just returned from a night patrol for Nora Hutchinson’s younger brother. My eyes were bloodshot as I listened to Nora say solemnly, “I know you’ve been good to me, but Tyler was jilted first. If I don’t break off our engagement, people will continue to ridicule him.”

Tyler had his engagement broken off, and immediately, Nora broke off our engagement to protect him from further ridicule, and now I was the one being mocked.

For the sake of this childhood crush she could never have, Nora had schemed endlessly.

My eyes burned with anger, and I fainted.

When I woke up, there was a chaotic noise around me.

“General Shawn, wake up!”

I frowned and opened my eyes. The anxious face in front of me belonged to Tyler Murphy.

He was dressed in a tailored olive coat, his handsome and refined face carrying the intellectual air of a scholar.

Staggering to my feet, I pushed through the crowd and rushed back to my own courtyard.

There, a small black dog jumped around playfully. I clenched and unclenched my fists, finally realizing the truth – I had been reborn three years into the past.

At this time, I had not yet become engaged to Nora Hutchinson.

In the previous timeline, it was on this very day that we first met. It was my grandmother’s birthday banquet, and Nora and I bumped into each other in the garden. When I first saw her, she was graceful and gentle, offering me a distant yet courteous greeting.

I had responded politely.

I thought it was just a chance encounter, but ten days later, the Hutchinson family sent a matchmaker to inquire about my feelings toward her.

At that time, Nora was the esteemed granddaughter of a former Chancellor. Her status was prominent, and she was well-known for her talent. My parents were delighted, and everyone agreed it would be a good match.

I followed my parents’ wishes and became engaged to Nora.

After our engagement, our families grew even closer.

Nora’s younger brother, Dexter, worked under my command. He was doted on by his family and spoiled beyond measure. He was not someone who could endure hardship, and I, known for being strict, often had to cover for him because of Nora.

For three years, I took over his night patrols.

The Hutchinson family remained stable. Although they were from a prestigious background, they weren’t skilled in managing businesses. After the former Chancellor’s retirement, while they weren’t impoverished, they weren’t wealthy either.

Nora loved jewelry, silk, and fine clothes. Whenever I had time, I would buy the latest designs for her. Over those three years, she thrived among the young ladies of the capital’s social circles.

But when it came to me, she was always respectful yet distant.

She never enjoyed going out alone with me, nor did she ever care about my preferences.

“Young Master, are you alright? Should I call the family doctor?” My servant, Zach, asked with concern.

The little black dog barked at my feet, bringing me back to reality.

“No need,” I replied calmly.

“Young Master, should we still go to the main hall? The banquet isn’t over yet,” Zach asked cautiously.

“No, go tell Mrs. Green that I’m feeling tired,” I instructed softly.

“Yes, Young Master,” Zach responded and left.

If I didn’t go to the main hall, I wouldn’t bump into Nora in the garden.

Now that I had been given another chance at life, all I wanted was to stay far away from her and Tyler. Whatever tangled mess they had between them, I wanted no part of it.

The breeze outside the window stirred my thoughts, and I suddenly remembered what had happened before my rebirth...

When I received the letter breaking off our engagement, I had tried to suppress my rage as I walked out, and I faintly overheard Nora whispering, “If only I could go back to before the engagement, I would be braver. I would tell Tyler that I love him and that I’m willing to marry him.”
