The next day, as soon as I brought the soup over, I heard laughter coming from the ward.

Iris naturally took out the lunch boxes, giving one to Nathan and one to Zoey, completely ignoring that I was still hungry.

She even warned me to serve them well.

Iris visibly relaxed.

Every day, Zoey would show up in the ward, looking radiant, to chat with Nathan.

The new patients praised the couple's relationship and also complimented me, their hired caretaker, for my diligence and attention to detail.

The doctors, during their rounds, would say his condition was improving day by day and that full recovery was possible.

After the first round of chemotherapy, just as he was discharged, Nathan asked me for a divorce and demanded a share of the only property my mom left me.

He said my mom became a vegetable after our marriage and left no will, so legally, it was marital property, and he was entitled to half.

I was infuriated by his shamelessness.

To protect my mom's property, I adamantly refused to divorce.

I prepared to clear things up.

"Your mother-in-law requested to stop your mom's treatment, saying that since you're getting divorced, the fees you pay are marital property, and she wants to use it for her son's wedding expenses."

"Ms. Sanders, when can you come to pick up your mom? We're also worried about receiving complaints."

Anger surged within me as I glanced at the message just sent by the doctor.
