Chapter 2

The Silvermoon Pack Council chambers felt colder than I remembered. I stood before the semicircle of seated elders, my rejection request clutched in my trembling hands. The massive oak doors had closed behind me with a finality that made my heart race.

"Jennifer Russell," Elder Thornwood addressed me, his voice echoing in the chamber. "You have formally requested to reject your mate bond with Hudson Black, future Alpha of this pack. Please state your grounds."

I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of my pregnancy making my back ache. "I cite emotional abandonment and the deterioration of our mate bond due to Hudson's obsessive behavior."

Murmurs rippled through the council members. I continued, my voice growing stronger with each word.

"Hudson has consistently prioritized his anatomical studies over our relationship and the welfare of our unborn child. He has brought inappropriate objects into our den and excluded me from our shared space."

Elder Thornwood nodded gravely. "These are serious allegations against a future Alpha. The council will review your request and schedule a formal hearing."

As I turned to leave, the doors burst open. Alpha Marcus Black strode in, his commanding presence filling the room. Behind him followed Luna Diana Black, her elegant features arranged in a mask of concern.

"Jennifer," Alpha Marcus said smoothly. "A word, please."

I was escorted to the Alpha's private office. The room was warm, decorated with family portraits spanning generations of Black Alphas. Hudson's image hung prominently among them.

"We heard about your... request," Luna Diana said, her smile not quite reaching her eyes. "Such a drastic step shouldn't be taken lightly."

Alpha Marcus placed a velvet box on the desk between us. "Perhaps you'd reconsider if you had this."

Inside lay a stunning diamond necklace with the Silvermoon Pack emblem. It must have cost thousands.

"Hudson has agreed to limit his anatomical studies," Luna Diana added quickly. "Just until the pup is born. Then you can both decide how to proceed."

I closed the box gently. "This isn't about limitations. It's about priorities."

Alpha Marcus's expression hardened. "Jennifer, you must understand your position. As Luna, you have access to pack resources, protection..."

"Which might be reconsidered if this rejection proceeds," Luna Diana finished, her voice honey-sweet but laced with threat.

"The Moon Goddess blessed your union," Alpha Marcus continued. "Your pregnancy hormones are clearly affecting your judgment."

I stood up, one hand on my belly. "My decision is clear. I will not withdraw my request."

---

Three days later, I was sorting through my belongings when a commotion erupted from Hudson's den. Vera's voice rose in a theatrical wail.

"She pushed me! I can't believe she'd do this to me!"

I rushed over to find Vera sprawled dramatically on the floor beside Hudson's anatomical model. Bruises were already forming on her arms.

"What happened?" I demanded.

"Don't pretend you care," Vera spat, tears streaming down her face. "You did this because you're jealous of my support for Hudson's work!"

Hudson knelt beside her, his face twisted with anger as he looked at me. "How could you, Jennifer?"

"I didn't touch her," I protested, but they weren't listening.

Vera pulled out her phone, snapping photos of her injuries. "Everyone needs to see what you've become."

Within minutes, my phone buzzed with notifications. Vera had posted the photos on every pack social media platform.

"Jealous Luna attacks pack member over Alpha's educational pursuits," read one caption. Another post detailed how I'd supposedly "lost control" due to "hormonal instability."

The comments were worse. Pack members I'd known for years were speculating about my mental health, suggesting my pregnancy had made me dangerous.

I felt dizzy with the betrayal. Not just from Vera's lies, but from how quickly the pack believed them.

A soft knock at the door interrupted my thoughts. Samuel stood there, his expression grim.

"May I come in?" he asked quietly.

I nodded, grateful for his steady presence.

Samuel's nostrils flared slightly as he entered. He moved toward Vera's den, then back to me.

"Jennifer," he said carefully, "those bruises on Vera's arms..."

"What about them?"

"They're self-inflicted." His voice was certain. "The scent patterns are wrong. The bruising is uniform - exactly what you'd expect if someone pressed hard with their own fingers."

I stared at him, the implications sinking in. "How can you tell?"

"My senses are... enhanced. I can detect things others can't." He hesitated. "The positioning of the bruises is impossible if they came from a push."

For the first time since the auction, I felt a flicker of hope. Someone believed me.

"Thank you, Samuel," I whispered.

His eyes met mine, steady and true. "I'm on your side, Jennifer. Whatever happens next."

As he left, I realized the depth of manipulation I was facing - and that I wasn't alone in this fight.
