Chapter 2

Something inside me snapped.

For three years, I had endured their betrayal. Three years of Whitney's mind-link messages flooding my consciousness with images of her and Raymond together. Three years of pretending I didn't know my mate had given another woman access to our private den. Three years of watching them build a life on the foundation of my pain.

But when Raymond lunged toward Shadow, his intention clear in his eyes, something primal awakened within me.

"Enough!" The word tore from my throat with a power I had suppressed for too long.

Raymond froze mid-step, his eyes widening as he watched my transformation. The submissive Luna he thought he knew vanished as silver light blazed from my eyes—the unmistakable sign of Moonstone bloodline power.

"Did you think I would let you destroy him?" I asked, my voice resonating with ancient authority as I cradled Shadow protectively against my chest.

Raymond recovered quickly, his Alpha aura flaring. "You dare defy me? After everything I've given you?"

"Given me?" I laughed, the sound sharp enough to cut glass. "You've taken everything from me—my trust, my child, my dignity."

Whitney edged closer to Raymond, her hand still bleeding from Shadow's bite. "She's lost it," she whispered loudly. "The barren Luna finally broke."

I turned my gaze to her, feeling the weight of three years of torment crystallize into something deadly. "You wanted my position so badly, Whitney. Tell me, does it taste as sweet as you imagined?"

The pack guards who had gathered at the commotion exchanged uncertain glances. I could see their confusion—the Luna they thought weak now standing tall with silver eyes blazing.

"I command you," I spoke in the ancient tongue, the language of the Moonstone bloodline that flowed through my veins. "Seize them."

The guards hesitated for only a moment before their wolves responded to the bloodline authority in my voice. It was instinctive, primal—their wolves recognizing a power far older than Raymond's weakened Alpha command.

"What are you doing?" Raymond roared as two guards grabbed his arms. "Release me! I am your Alpha!"

But his voice lacked the resonance it once had. I felt it then—the completeness of my ritual's effect. Twenty years of his wolf strength sacrificed at the moon altar, unknowingly weakening him while strengthening the pack's resources.

"You are nothing," I said softly, watching realization dawn in his eyes. "You have always been nothing without me."

Whitney screamed as guards took hold of her, her perfect features contorting with rage and fear. "This isn't possible! Raymond, do something!"

"Take them to the borderlands," I commanded, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. "The territory where rogues roam free."

"Borderlands?" Whitney's voice rose an octave. "You can't be serious! No one survives there!"

Raymond struggled against the guards' grip, his face purple with fury. "I forbid this! I am your Alpha! Obey me!"

But his words fell flat, powerless against the ancient authority flowing through my veins.

"You should have thought of that before you betrayed your mate," I replied coldly. "Before you allowed her into our den."

The guards began dragging them away, Whitney's screams echoing through the pack house while Raymond continued to shout orders that no longer carried any weight.

"Nora!" he called desperately as they reached the door. "You need me! The pack needs me!"

I turned away, my focus shifting to Shadow's silver eyes watching me with newfound understanding.

The room fell silent until the sound of boots marching in formation announced new arrivals. Gamma Chen entered with six of his most trusted warriors, their movements precise and purposeful as they positioned themselves strategically throughout the room.

Chen approached me with deliberate steps, his eyes meeting mine with quiet intensity.

"Luna Nora," he said formally, then added in a lower voice, "Or should I say, Heir of the Moonstone."

My breath caught. How long had he known?

Chen reached into his jacket and withdrew a small leather pouch. From it, he produced five ancient moonstone tokens, each carved with the symbol of the warrior council's highest rank.

"My family has served the Moonstone bloodline for generations," he explained quietly. "We have been waiting for you to claim your birthright."

He pressed the tokens into my palm, closing my fingers around them with a gentle squeeze. "The warrior council stands ready to support your claim."

I looked down at the moonstone tokens in my hand, feeling their ancient power resonating with my own. For the first time in years, I felt something beyond cold calculation or dull pain.

I felt hope.
