Chapter 5

Without refuting her, I picked up my baby and went upstairs.

When I reached the stairs, I could still hear Beth blaming Gabriel.

But I forced myself to concentrate on walking and ignored the quarrel coming from behind.

When I walked into our room, I suddenly found a cute pink crib in the room.

There were now a lot of soft pillows and dolls on my bed.

Seeing me standing there in a daze, Beth happily introduced it to me, "How is it? It's so adorable, right? I decorated it myself!"

Hearing this, the little hope that Gabriel cared even a little about me and my daughter finally shattered.

I couldn't help but laugh at myself about dreaming about gaining his concern.

"That's wonderful. Thank you, Beth," I said.

"No, thank you. Thank you for giving birth to this lovely little angel for the Hernandez family," she said.

Beth smiled and asked me to sit down, then took out a heavy envelope with money from her pocket.

She said, "This is the reward for you for working hard on giving birth to the baby."

I choked up, not knowing how to face her kindness.

Beth treated me almost like her own daughter in my three-year marriage with Gabriel.

The most reassuring thing in this marriage was that Beth really took good care of me thoughtfully.

"Beth, I can't take it..."

As I tried to refuse her, she took out a small red gift box and stuffed it to me. "Just take it. I also prepared a gift for the baby, too."

She took out a necklace with a stunning emerald and gave it to the baby.

This time, I didn't reject her kindness and take it for my baby since the emerald stood for a good wish for her health.

At night, while the baby was asleep, I went to the bathroom and wiped my body with warm water.

When I walked out of the bathroom, I saw Gabriel standing beside the door.

He was holding my cell phone with an expression mixed with rage and disbelief.

And his fierce glare questioned me silently as he saw me walking out of the bathroom.

My heart skipped a beat. "Why are you looking at my phone?"

He said, "A lawyer called Eric Carter called you just now."

Hearing his forbidding words, I was startled and walked over to grab my phone.

"Why did you contact the lawyer?" he continued to question me.

His sharp eyes fell directly on me, as if he could see through what I was planning.

I didn't dodge but looked directly into his eye and said frankly, "I consulted him about divorce."

Pressing his lips, he was about to lose his temper.

He laughed sarcastically. "You want to divorce me?"
