Chapter 6

Less than an hour later, Jack had everything prepared. I thanked him and headed back to the apartment Dalton and I had rented together.

To my surprise, Dalton was waiting for me at the door.

As soon as I arrived, he grabbed my wrist with a force that made me wince.

"What's this about? You want to break up?"

His grip was so tight it hurt.

When he saw the pain in my face, Dalton's expression shifted to one of guilt. He awkwardly tried to pull me into an embrace, but I stepped back as soon as he let go.

He grabbed at nothing but air.

"I know you're hurting, but I really... I promise, that day was a mistake. I still love you the most..."

When faced with my indifferent gaze, he trailed off, mumbling to himself.

"Who you love doesn't concern me," I replied coldly, turning to walk inside. But he was quick to yank me back.

The documents I'd been holding were scattered across the floor like confetti. Dalton's eyes widened in shock as he looked at me in disbelief.

"You're leaving?!"

Dalton pulled out the papers, realizing my plans. "I won't allow it."

Seeing Jack's signature on the documents finally got him flustered. He held my hand tightly, saying, "Don't be hasty. Let's talk this through."

"Let go," I said, frowning in disgust at his desperation. "I'm not going to stay and become a laughingstock of the industry."

"Don't say that!" Dalton pulled me into a tight embrace. "I'll tell Jack that you're my forever navigator."

It had been days since I felt Dalton's warmth, and now his embrace felt cold and unfamiliar.

I looked up at him, my voice trembling as I said, "Then hold a press conference and clear up what happened that day."

Dalton's body stiffened visibly, and he stared at me, speechless.

"I'll agree to anything you want, but not that."
