Behind the Husband's Lies

As soon as Bella and Harry left, Logan started mocking me.

"Why are you so stingy now? You can buy new things when they break and repaint the walls when they get dirty. Why do you have to bully a mother and her son?"

Bully them?

The anger I had suppressed for so long finally erupted.

I glared at Logan, my eyes red with fury. "My husband is always hanging around with another woman and her child. How do you expect me to be generous? Have you ever made breakfast for me and Mia in the past few years? Mia was pushed down twice by Harry, and did you ever ask about it? If you care about them so much, why not just move in and be Harry's father?"

Logan panicked, seeing my teary eyes. "Chloe, why are you making such a fuss over a child? Bella's had a tough time raising her son alone. You should be more considerate."

"Her problems are not my responsibility! Why should I have to understand?"

My hysteria made Logan frown.

"Chloe, where's the considerate woman I used to know?"

Yes, I had been considerate ever since I met Logan.

When he got drunk because he missed Bella, I carried him home from the bar, made him sobering soup, and took care of him.

He told me how hard it was for his parents to raise him, so I offered to forgo a dowry and even bought a house for us to get married in.

When he complained about the cafeteria food at work, I carefully prepared lunch for him every day.

He said he felt sorry for Bella and her son and considered her just a friend. I believed him and never stopped him from helping her.

But despite my understanding, he only got worse.

Logan and I didn't speak for two days. On the third night, he got a call and hurriedly dressed to go out.

I stopped him.

"Where are you going at this hour?"

"Harry has a high fever. I need to take him to the hospital."

"Why not call 911? Why do you need to go?"

"Bella can't handle this on her own."

I remembered Mia's high fever last month. I had woken Logan from his deep sleep, asking him to take her to the hospital.

What did he say then?

"It's just a fever. Give her some water. If that doesn't work, give her some Motrin."

At 2 AM that night, I took a taxi and rushed Mia to the emergency room alone.

Watching Logan's retreating back, I spoke coldly, "Logan, if you walk out that door tonight, we're getting divorced."

Logan paused. "Chloe, you need to know when to stop being unreasonable!"

He left without looking back.

The next morning, I changed the locks.

This house was fully paid for by my parents before we got married. Even in a divorce, he wouldn't get any part of it.

Logan didn't return until the afternoon. When he found his key couldn't open the door, he called me several times.

I didn't answer. Instead, I sent him a text: "Divorce."

Logan stayed away for three days. On the fourth day, Bella showed up at my door.

She held some snacks and apologized as soon as she walked in.

"Chloe, it's all my fault. I caused you and Logan to fight. Can you forgive him for my sake?"

"Stop pretending," I said.

I showed her social media posts on my phone. "Are these posts visible only to me?"

For the past three days, her social media had been full of photos: Logan cooking in her kitchen, Logan taking her son to the supermarket, and even the two of them enjoying a candlelight dinner together.

Bella's face turned slightly red, and she bit her lip, staying silent.

I smiled faintly. "I don't want this kind of man. If you like him, he's yours."

I went to the bedroom and returned with the divorce papers I had prepared over the last two days.

When I came back, I saw Bella handing a piece of bread to Mia, who was watching cartoons.

I didn't care and handed the divorce agreement to Bella.

"I've already signed it. Ms. Linsey, please give this to Logan and tell him to arrange an appointment at the court for the formalities."

Bella dropped her act, her eyes gleaming with triumph.

"Thank you, Chloe," she said, smirking.

I smiled too. "No need to thank me. At least I'm much younger than you."

Bella's smile faltered.

Just then, Mia started coughing violently.

I grabbed her, panic rising.

Her face was pale, and she was struggling to breathe.

I saw the half-eaten bread on the floor smeared with mango jam.

Mia had been allergic to mangoes since she was little. Even a tiny bit could cause anaphylactic shock, which was life-threatening!

I glared at Bella, rage surging through me.

She knew. Bella knew Mia was allergic to mangoes and still gave her food containing them deliberately!
