Baby Bump vs Bomb: Watching Him Go Mad
Chapter 2
As soon as I finished speaking, a wave of exhaustion washed over me.
Juan Sanchez, the Famiglia Medico, hurriedly injected me with a cardiac injection.
The sharp pain immediately brought me back to my senses.
Juan wiped off the sweat on his forehead and said, "Ms. Cabrera, you must try to stay awake as much as you can. If you pass out now, you may never wake up again.
"Think about your husband and your baby. They both need you."
Don also spoke up in a stern, authoritative voice, "You saved my life, and I will never forget it.
"When you've recovered, I will give you everything that you deserve. The child in your womb will also be my godson.
"Hold on. I've already sent someone to find Fabio."
I forced a small smile on my lips after hearing Don's words. However, I wasn't as naive as he thought.
The warm gush of blood from between my thighs during the explosion had already told me everything I needed to know. At the very least, I knew that my baby could not be saved anymore.
And as for Fabio, I knew that he would never come.
As if to prove my point, the Soldato that Don sent suddenly returned alone to report. He kept his head lowered and didn't dare to look Don in the eyes.
"Where is he?" Don asked with a frown on his face, sounding obviously displeased.
The Soldato's voice trembled as he replied, "Don Romero, Fabio… refused to return. He said, 'That's such a terrible script. Tell the actress to stop bothering me'..."
The Soldato was practically bent over 90 degrees as sweat kept dripping down his forehead.
I knew that Fabio's words had to have been a lot more cruel and harsher than what the Soldato said—he just probably didn't dare to quote Fabio word for word.
After all, Reina had been slandering me for a long time, and now, Fabio always thought that all of my pain and suffering were nothing more than just an act to try and get his attention.
In my past life, when I begged him for help, he accused me of coveting the position of the Underboss's wife.
Now, when Don told him to return, he said that I was just putting on an act.
If he only cared about Reina now, then what was the point of his pursuing me so relentlessly in the first place?
Sadness and anger rose up within me. I cocked my head to the side and coughed up even more blood.
Juan's face turned somber.
"Don, Mrs. Lopez is in critical condition now! Her life can't be saved just by medicine alone if there's nobody who can trigger her will to live!"
Don's gaze landed on my pale face. He couldn't suppress the fire in his chest anymore.
He took out the encrypted phone, the one only accessible to a select few, and slammed it into the Soldato's hand. His voice was as cold as ice as he said, "Use this to call Fabio.
"Nobody in the Famiglia will fail to recognize my number. If he still refuses to come over, then execute him as a traitor!"
Don was truly furious this time.
He was usually very heavily guarded, yet, in this situation, not a single Guardia Del Corpo was with him.
I had then risked my life to save him, but he wasn't even able to get my husband to come back.
This wasn't just negligence anymore. It was tantamount to a blatant challenge to Don's authority!
I was hurriedly rushed into a VIP ward at the hospital, kept alive by strong medication and medical equipment, awaiting further surgery.
When the Soldato spoke again, I was still half-conscious, but I managed to hear him anyway.
"Don Romero, Mr. Lopez still refused to return. But… He sent an assistant over instead."
I forced myself to open my eyes and saw Reina's personal assistant, Ana Rodriguez.
Ana used to be my personal assistant.
However, when I was pregnant, Reina bribed her into sabotaging my car brakes, and the accident that happened afterward nearly killed me.
Luckily, the paramedics appeared just in time, and I managed to survive.
I hadn't wanted to forgive this traitor. Just as I was about to punish her, Reina stopped me.
I still remembered that day like it was yesterday.
Reina wrapped her hands around Fabio's arm and scolded me in a righteous voice.
"How could you be so unreasonable, Sirena? Ana doesn't even know how to drive. How could she possibly know how to sabotage your car brakes?
"You can't convince me that you didn't orchestrate this entire accident by yourself. Even if you wanted to risk your life to win Fabio's attention back, you should never have tried dragging Ana into this!"
Then, she turned to Fabio and said in a soft voice, "Fabio, why don't we let Ana be my personal assistant instead? I won't get mad at her for ridiculous reasons, unlike someone else here."
