Not the Prom Queen but a joke

I, in a sweater and boots, pushed open the door and walked into the private room at eight o'clock in the evening, immediately seeing Betty and Lila dressed like fluffy roosters.

Betty raised her chin, sizing me up from head to toe, a hint of disdain curling her lips.

"Oh, look who we have here! It's our former prom queen, Aurora! This is a high-class place, why do you show up in a sweater? And where's your bag?"

Lila chimed in, "Prom queen? She's just a big joke! Her family went bankrupt long ago. Where would she get money for clothes and bags? She probably took the bus here. How embarrassing!"

"Does Miss Aurora take the bus? She's probably ignorant like those silly sweethearts in dramas who don't even know how to use a bus card."

This kind of scene played out countless times in the university dormitory. The room was full of our university classmates, all with a look of suppressed laughter, and some even laughed out loud.

My only good college friend, Wendy, stood up to speak for me but I pulled her back down.

"Sorry, I was nearby, so I just came over without bringing anything."

I was just in this restaurant earlier, so I didn't need to wear a coat.

"Don't brag. This is the most expensive location in New York, right next to the CBD. What can you do here in your current situation? Expect to get rich by rummaging through trash cans?"

As Lila said this, everyone burst into laughter.

In my sophomore year, my family's listed company went bankrupt, and our financial situation has rapidly worsened.

Lila, Betty, Suzy, and I shared a dorm room. In freshman year, they were all caring and considerate towards me.

But when they found out about my family's bankruptcy, they immediately gang up on isolating me.

Especially Suzy, who completely forgot about her own family's difficulties. I gave her 5000 dollars from my living expenses to pay her tuition.

When her parents came to school crying, demanding she drop out and return home. I also worked very hard to persuade them.
