You Chose a Stronger Luna, So Why Are Your Alphas Only Listening to Me

8.5 / 10.0
Five years after Caleb Hart cast her out, Ivy returns to Grey Ridge—no longer the timid Omega, but a commanding specialist. The Pack's Alphas are turning feral, and every cure has failed; only Ivy can stop them. As rival Alpha Ronan Black stands at her side, Caleb desperately wants her back. But Ivy's sole mission is to save his Pack—then walk away forever.

You Chose a Stronger Luna, So Why Are Your Alphas Only Listening to Me Chapter 1

The reinforced glass of Isolation Unit 4 rattled in its steel frame, groaning under a three-hundred-pound impact.

Inside, the man who had walked into the emergency wing an hour ago with a mild hand tremor was gone. In his place stood a half-shifted Alpha, muzzle dripping foam, thick tendons in his forearms bulging against torn skin where heavy leather restraints had already snapped clean through.

On the floor of the hallway, a trauma nurse scrambled backward, clutching a broken wrist where the Alpha had thrown her against the crash cart.

"Step back," Caleb barked, shoving his way past two armed guards.

He didn't wait for an answer. He grabbed the emergency clipboard hanging beside the digital lock. "What did you give him?"

"Maximum protocol dosage of Thorazine and wolfsbane neuro-blockers," Dr. Allen said, his hands shaking as he adjusted his bloody glasses. "Three minutes ago. It should have dropped an elephant. It's not touching his central nervous system."

Inside the room, the Alpha slammed his shoulder into the glass again. A sickening crack echoed through the corridor—the sound of his own collarbone splintering. The man didn't even flinch. He bared elongated canines and hurled his fractured body against the barrier once more, entirely indifferent to the pain.

Serena pushed through the double doors, flanked by four pack enforcers carrying heavy-duty shock batons. Her silver-laced sidearm was already drawn.

"He's destroying the containment unit," Serena said, her voice sharp and commanding. "Use the silver cuffs and pin him. Now."

"Wait," Caleb warned. "The neuro-load is unstable—"

"If he breaks that glass, he kills half the floor," Serena cut in. She turned to the lead enforcer. "Open the hatch. Subdue him with Silver-Four restraint collars, and apply the Alpha Command."

The hatch hissed open. Three enforcers drove the silver-tipped capture pole into the chamber, snapping the cold alloy around the thrashing wolf's neck.

Serena stepped into the opening, her voice dropping into the heavy, crushing resonance of command authority. *"Stand down!"*

For a fraction of a second, the Alpha froze. His eyes rolled back, pupils dilating into pitch black as the command struck his brain.

Then the silver burned into his flesh.

Instead of submission, a deafening shriek tore from his throat. The agony didn't break his rage—it detonated it. He caught the steel pole with both hands, ignoring the sizzling sound of his palms burning against the metal, and ripped the enforcer straight toward the open hatch.

Before Caleb could cross the threshold to haul the guard back, alarms began blaring down the entire hallway.

Red emergency lights strobed across the ceiling.

"Units Two and Three!" a voice shouted over the intercom. "Isolation Two and Three just breached inner restraints! They're entering full Rage!"

Caleb shoved Serena behind him, slamming the manual override to seal Unit 4 before looking down the corridor.

Through the observation windows of the neighboring rooms, two other Alphas—both admitted earlier that night for minor sensory migraines—had shifted simultaneously. Their movements were terrifyingly identical. They weren't fighting like cornered beasts; they were tearing at their own flesh and clawing at their ears in exact unison.

Caleb stepped closer to the monitors, his stomach dropping.

"Look at the telemetry," Caleb ordered, pointing at the split-screen vitals.

Serena wiped a smudge of soot from her cheek, her breathing uneven. "What is that?"

"Their eyes," Caleb said.

All three men displayed the exact same rapid, horizontal pupil tremor. Every four seconds, a sharp involuntary spasm jerked the skin behind their right ears. On the audio feeds, all three were gagging, clawing at their snouts as if the smell of sterile floor cleaner was burning their lungs.

"This isn't territorial madness," Caleb said, his jaw tightening. "This is a coordinated neurological collapse. Call the Feral Behavior Institute."

"The Institute won't touch active pack emergencies," Serena argued. "They deal with research, not containment."

"Make the call," Caleb said. "Tell them standard suppressors and Alpha Commands are accelerating the seizure state. If they don't send someone who understands neural rage, we'll have to put down three of our own bloodline before sunrise."

Eight hundred miles away, in the quiet, temperature-controlled research wing of the Feral Behavior Institute, the red priority notification pinged against the corner of Ivy's computer screen.

Her office was silent except for the low hum of the server racks. She reached for her cold mug of black coffee, opening the dispatch file with a practiced click.

**Emergency Field Request:** Grey Ridge Regional Pack Hospital.

Ivy stopped. Her hand hovered above the mouse.

*Grey Ridge.*

Five years of silence, and the name alone was enough to leave a cold weight in her chest. She had built an entire career on the other side of the country specifically so she would never have to breathe their mountain air again.

Her cursor drifted toward the red *Decline Assignment* button in the lower corner of the screen.

She began typing a standard refusal: *Case outside jurisdictional research scope. Recommend local pharmacological containment.*

Before she hit send, the video attachment in the case file began to auto-play on her second monitor.

It was security footage from Grey Ridge's emergency wing, timestamped forty minutes prior. Ivy leaned forward, her professional instincts overriding the urge to look away.

The footage showed the first Alpha sitting on an exam table before the shift. He looked tired, rubbing his temples. But as the camera zoomed in, Ivy noticed his hand.

He wasn't rubbing his temple.

He was dragging the knuckle of his right index finger down the side of his neck, repeatedly pressing the exact junction of the vagus nerve behind his jawline.

Ivy froze.

She opened the second and third video files. Different men, different rooms, different admission times.

Both of them were doing it. An identical, compulsive tick along the right cervical nerve branch, occurring every thirty seconds prior to the rage spike.

Ivy pushed her chair back, standing up so fast her wheel struck the filing cabinet behind her.

She pulled up her private database, bringing up the clinical trial results she had finalized only three weeks ago. On the screen was a detailed neural map titled: *Moon-Rage Neuropathy: Early-Stage Synaptic Degradation in High-Rank Wolves.*

"It's not isolated," she murmured to the empty room.

She glanced at the digital calendar hanging above her desk.

The full moon was exactly seven days away.

If three high-ranking Alphas in Grey Ridge were already displaying advanced cervical spasms, the viral degradation had been spreading undetected for weeks. There could be dozens—maybe hundreds—of wolves in the territory currently walking around asymptomatic, their central nervous systems quietly decaying until the lunar pull triggered a mass psychotic break.

If nobody stopped it, Grey Ridge wouldn't just lose three patients. The entire pack would tear itself apart from the inside out.

Ivy stared at the screen for five long seconds. Then, without hesitation, she highlighted her refusal text and hit delete.

She closed her laptop, grabbed her field bag from beneath the desk, and unzipped the reinforced medical kit to check the specialized neural stabilizers inside.

Walking out of her office, she passed the director's open door.

"Dr. Lindqvist," the director called out, looking up from his stack of reports. "Did you review that dispatch from the northern packs? I was going to tell them we don't have the personnel."

Ivy adjusted the heavy strap of her medical kit over her shoulder.

"I'll take Grey Ridge," she said, her voice completely even.

Back in the Grey Ridge isolation wing, the screaming behind the reinforced glass had finally subsided into ragged, wet breathing.

Serena lowered her phone, walking back to where Caleb stood outside the observation booth. The scent of burned ozone and silver hung heavy in the air.

"The Institute answered," Serena said quietly. "They're sending their chief specialist on Moon-Rage Neuropathy. She's boarding an emergency transport now."

Caleb didn't take his eyes off the glass. "Who did they assign?"

"Ivy," Serena replied.

Caleb's shoulders went rigid. For a second, the chaos of the hospital seemed to fade behind the sudden tension in the hallway. He opened his mouth to speak, but a strange, wet sound behind him cut him off.

Caleb turned.

Marcus, one of the elite border guards who had been standing watch at the end of the corridor, was leaning heavily against the concrete wall. His rifle had slipped from his shoulder, clattering onto the linoleum floor.

"Marcus?" Caleb stepped toward him. "What's wrong?"

A thick drop of dark blood dripped from the guard's right nostril, splashing against his tactical vest.

Marcus didn't seem to notice. His eyes were wide, glassy, and shivering with the exact same horizontal tremor as the men in the cages. His right hand was raised, his fingers digging desperately into the side of his neck.

"Alpha..." Marcus whispered, his voice trembling in terror. "I can hear everyone's heartbeat."
