Chapter 3

As soon as Jack walked out of the autopsy room, his phone rang.

"Jack, I'm Helen's adoptive mother. Helen hasn't been home or to school for a week. I called her but no one answered. I'm very worried about her. Has she contacted you recently?"

Hearing her cautious and worried voice, my heart ached.

Besides Toby, she was the only one in the world who still cared about me.

When Jack heard her voice, his brows furrowed, and a trace of displeasure flashed in his eyes. "I told you that her affairs have nothing to do with me. Don't call me randomly again."

She wanted to say something, but Jack hung up without mercy.

It was just as quick and easy as hanging up my call for help.

Toby grabbed him and said with a serious expression, "Jack, I don't think this matter is that simple. Maybe Helen is really in trouble."

Jack sneered, "Nothing can happen to her."

After saying that, Jack waved his hand and left without looking back.

Toby stood there thinking, then turned around and went back to the office.

After leaving the police station, Jack did not go home immediately, but went to the market.

I didn't know what he was thinking about, but there was always a faint smile on the corner of his mouth.

After buying a few ribs, potatoes and some vegetables, he drove home slowly.

As soon as he entered the door, Anna threw herself into his arms with tears in her eyes and called him Jack in a choked voice.

He patted her shoulder gently, "Did you have a nightmare again? Don't be afraid. I'm here, and I won't let anyone hurt you."

After he comforted her for a long time, she finally let him go with an embarrassed look on her face.

He chuckled and pinched her face. "Wait here for a while. I will go cook for you."

After our parents passed away, she became more and more dependent on him and always had nightmares. He felt sorry for her, often took time to accompany her and even learned to cook for her.

While he was cooking, she sat by and watched with her chin in her hand.

It would be a lie to say I was not envious.

In fact, when I first had returned to the family, Jack had been very nice to me.

Until later, Anna had got into trouble frequently.

Someone had hid a needle in her skirt or thrown something at her. Her homework book had been torn up. She had been pushed down the stairs. The worst incident was when scalding hot water had been poured on her hands, causing deep burns. She still had scars on her hands now.

And every time she had got hurt, I had been the suspect.

Jack's attitude towards me gradually became cold.

Our parents had wanted Anna and I to get along peacefully, so they had taken us out to sea on our fifteenth birthday.

Who would have thought that Anna would risk her life to slander me for pushing her into the sea to drive me out of the family.

After she had fallen into the sea, our parents had both jumped in to save her. She had been eventually rescued, but they had died in the sea due to exhaustion.

From then on, Jack hated me to the core and felt more and more pity for Anna.

I had been trying to repair my relationship with Jack, but Anna always interfered.

The most recent time was on her 20th birthday, and she even had slandered me for sending her a mango cake, which had caused her to be hospitalized due to an allergic reaction.

Jack believed that I did that without even investigating.

At the dinner table, Anna pinched her fingers and said in a hypocritical manner, "Jack, Helen didn't mean it that day, so don't be angry with her. After all, she is also your sister."

Jack poked her forehead in annoyance and said, "She hurt you like this, and you still speak for her. You are too kind. That's why you are always bullied by her.

"And I has told me so many times that you are my only sister. Helen doesn't deserve to be my sister!"

As a forensic doctor, he had always had a sharp eye, and no clues could escape his eyes. However, when facing Anna and me, his calmness and professionalism were completely ineffective.

He had totally biased in favor of Anna, mistaking the ruthless and ungrateful person for a simple and harmless person.
