After the Swap, I Reached the Pinnacle of Life
Chapter 4
After the wedding, I brought Zoe back to my place.
Zoe stopped me.
"You're a good person, very decent," she said. "Although we got married today, I'm sorry, but I can't be a real wife to you.
"We do our own thing, and don't interfere with each other. How does that sound?"
Zoe had striking looks, with a figure just as stunning as any celebrity.
In her wedding dress, she looked like a goddess, drawing the constant stares of the men nearby.
I looked into her eyes. "You love someone else, don't you?"
Zoe nodded and said softly, "When I was young, my family went on a vacation.
"I snuck away to swim in the river. My foot slipped, and the current knocked me over. I couldn't get up.
"A boy about my age saved me.
"I've liked him ever since, but I never knew who he was."
She looked at me and smiled sweetly. "Pretty silly, don't you think?"
She pulled a necklace from her pocket, with half of a jade pendant hanging from it.
Slowly, I reached into my pocket and pulled out my piece.
Zoe's eyes widened in shock.
I smiled. "It was me."
In my past life, I didn't realize until a few years into our marriage.
Zoe never had children because she and William were never truly husband and wife.
She had always been in love with the boy who saved her. That boy was me.
Back then, I had a wife and children. Of course, I never made any moves toward Zoe.
It wasn't until later that I learned Isla had betrayed me, and then my brother had me killed.
Now that I've been reborn, I'm determined to be with the girl who truly loves me.
Zoe looked at me, her big eyes glistening with emotion.
I didn't make a move. I simply escorted her back to her room like a gentleman.
There's plenty of time ahead.
I returned to my room and had just closed the door when there was a knock on the door.
I opened it to find Zoe standing there, looking delicate and beautiful.
"The night is short," she said.
She smiled and fell into my arms.
The night passed.
