Chapter 2

When I got home, I found Amelia lounging on the sofa I had meticulously designed, wearing my pajamas and slippers while cozying up to my husband.

John didn't react much when he saw me; he simply moved Amelia's hand away from him slightly.

"It's pouring outside. Amelia has been staying at a hotel alone and was scared, so I brought her home. She didn't have any toiletries, so I gave her your things to use."

"Amy, I didn't mean for this to happen. You don't mind, do you?" Amelia's voice was soft and pitiful, but she shot me a triumphant look when John wasn't watching.

I replied coolly, "Not at all. If you like it, then you can have it."

My hands were trembling as I struggled to mask my pain.

I thought, John, have you really reached the point where you're moving Amelia into our home without even consulting me?

"Are you okay?" John finally noticed my pale complexion and moved to help me, but I shrugged his hand away.

"I'm tired. Let's leave it at that for today."

John looked shocked. This was the first time I hadn't responded to his gestures.

Meanwhile, Amelia was in tears, clutching John's arm. "John, did my presence upset Amy? Maybe I should go back to the hotel. After all, Amy's pregnant."

Her act of the innocent girl only seemed to work on John, who was clearly still smitten with her.

I took a deep breath, calming myself and stepping into the trap Amelia had set. "Yes, I'm not feeling well. John, could you find a hotel for Amelia to stay in?"

I just wanted an answer. Who would he choose between Amelia and me?

Amelia's tears flowed even more freely, her expression becoming even more pitiful. "Since Amy says so, John, I guess I should leave."

She started to leave, but John grabbed her hand.

He looked at me with a cold expression. "Amy, stop making a scene. It's pouring outside. Where could she possibly go?"

I froze mid-motion, meeting his gaze directly. "Can't you just have the driver take her to a hotel?

"John, I'm carrying your child. Are you really going to disregard my feelings just for her?" My emotions finally erupted. I needed an answer, even if it meant falling into Amelia's pitiful trap.

Amelia seemed to feel embarrassed. She pulled John's hand away, putting on a fake sorrowful smile.

"Amy is right. John, we're not like before. Amy is your wife now. I'll always see you as a brother."

As thunder rumbled outside, Amelia picked up her coat to leave. But John stopped her, turning to me.

"Amy, you wouldn't make me choose, would you?"

My heart ached. I forced out a bitter smile. "Is this what's considered putting you in a tough spot, Mr. Moore? You just left your pregnant wife of six years at a bar, moved your old flame into our home, letting her wear my clothes and live in my space. Did you ever consider that as a wife, I deserve some respect and protection from my husband?"

With that, I glanced coldly at Amelia. "Amelia, if you want to stay, so bet it. Even if it means sharing a bed with John, I don't care."

I slipped back into my shoes. "John, I'll see you at the courthouse the day after tomorrow."

John stepped forward, trying to stop me and explain.

I brushed him off quickly, got into the car, and drove away, leaving the two of them behind.

On the other end of the phone, the voice of the housekeeper, my confidant, was on the line.

Even after I left, John hadn't sent Amelia away. Instead, she had smoothly settled into the room that belonged to both me and John.

It was disgusting. Not the morning sickness but a visceral revulsion.

Six years of affection, and this was all it amounted to.

I thought, John, John, after everything—after I stood by you through thick and thin, helping you build from the ground up, enduring every hardship together, Aren't we supposed to part ways with some dignity, at least?

Tears streamed down my face, my heartache finally finding an outlet.

The rain poured down, masking my sobs as if nature itself were weeping for me.
