After My Mate Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress Novel Cover

After My Mate Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress

The sacred bond of mates is shattered in an instant. Standing before three hundred wolves, I was publicly discarded by Vance for his pregnant mistress, Kimber. She wore the expensive moonstone pendant he claimed the pack treasury could not afford—a lie that ultimately cost my daughter her life when he refused to buy her fever antidote. Now, armed with a ledger detailing his financial crimes, I will expose every deception he used to destroy us.

Chapter 2

I opened the ledger to the page I had marked with a folded corner months ago. The page with the moonstone pendant. The page with the blank line where Ella's antidote should have been.

I did not look at Vance. I looked at the assembled pack.

"Six years ago," I said, my voice carrying in the silence, "the Silverfang treasury held twenty-three thousand dollars. Today it holds two hundred and forty-seven thousand."

I turned the page.

"Year one. March fifteenth. Private account transfer, fifteen hundred dollars. Recipient: K. Warren. Purpose listed as 'widow assistance.' April third. Another transfer. Two thousand. May seventh. Three thousand. June—"

"Enough." Vance's voice cut across mine, sharp and commanding. But not Alpha tone. Not yet. "This is—"

"June twelfth," I continued, not raising my voice, not stopping. "Four thousand dollars. July ninth. Five thousand. August second—"

"She's lying." Kimber's voice broke on the words, tears already streaming down her face. She turned to the pack, one hand pressed to her belly, the other reaching out in a gesture of wounded appeal. "I never— Vance helped me after my mate died, yes, but this is— she's twisting it, she's—"

I turned another page.

"Year three. November twenty-first. Ella contracts wolfsbane fever. Healer Petra Vane requests antidote authorization. Cost: eight hundred dollars. Request denied. Treasury status listed as 'insufficient funds.'"

I paused. Let the number sit in the air.

"November twenty-eighth. Private purchase. Moonstone pendant. Vendor: Silverlight Jewelers. Cost: two thousand three hundred dollars. Recipient: K. Warren."

The silence in the hall changed. It had been confusion. Now it was something colder.

I looked up from the ledger. My eyes found Kimber. She was still crying, but her hand had dropped from her belly. The pendant at her throat caught the light.

"Same week," I said quietly. "You wore it to the winter gathering that year. I remember."

Kimber's mouth opened. No sound came out.

Silas Morrow took a half-step back from Vance. It was involuntary. Barely visible. But I saw it. And so did the warriors nearest the high table.

Vance's jaw tightened. That tell I knew so well. His shoulders went square.

"This is fabricated," he said, his voice rising now, filling the hall with Alpha authority. "Jealousy. Bitterness. A weak she-wolf's last attempt at relevance before—"

"The entries are in my handwriting," I said. "Because I kept the books. For six years. Every deposit. Every withdrawal. Every transfer you authorized."

I turned more pages. The sound of paper was very loud.

"Year four. Kimber's housing renovations. Twelve thousand dollars. Year five. Her travel expenses to the coastal territories. Eight thousand. Year six. Wardrobe, jewelry, furnishings—"

"Stop." Vance's voice cracked on the word. Not a command. A plea.

I stopped.

I reached into my inner coat pocket. My fingers closed around the sealed scroll. Petra had given it to me three weeks ago, her face carefully neutral, her voice low. "If you need this," she had said, "use it."

I pulled the scroll out. The wax seal bore the healer's mark.

Kimber went very still.

I broke the seal myself. The wax crumbled between my fingers. I unrolled the parchment slowly and read the date aloud.

"June seventh. Ultrasound examination. Patient: Kimber Warren. Gestation: nineteen weeks."

I looked up.

"Nineteen weeks," I repeated. "That's four and a half months. You rejected me three days ago. You announced Kimber's pregnancy tonight. But she's been carrying for nearly five months."

The hall erupted.

Not loudly. Not chaotically. But the silence shattered into a hundred small sounds — sharp intakes of breath, boots shifting on stone, low murmurs that spread like wildfire through the assembled wolves.

Vance bred outside an active mate bond.

While his Luna still bore his mark.

Ancient pack law was not ambiguous about this. It was the one violation that stripped an Alpha of the right to handle discipline internally. It triggered automatic Lycan Council jurisdiction. It always had.

Kimber's tears were still falling, but no one was watching her anymore. Every eye in the hall was on Vance.

His aura flickered. Just for a second. Just enough.

Silas took another step back.

"This is—" Vance started, but his voice had lost its command. "She's— the dates are wrong, the healer made an error—"

I reached behind the ledger's back cover. My fingers found the folded photographs. Nadia had delivered them herself two months ago, her face grim, her voice steady. "I kept copies," she had said. "Just in case."

I unfolded them slowly. Three photographs. High resolution. Time-stamped.

The scent-marked rendezvous den. The one Vance thought no one knew about. The one forty miles outside pack territory where his scent and Kimber's were so thoroughly mingled that even a human could have identified them.

I held the first photograph up.

Then the second.

Then the third.

I did not need to explain them. Every wolf in the hall could read a scent signature. Could see the deliberate marking. Could recognize what this was.

Vance lunged.

Not toward me. Toward the photographs. His hand shot out, reaching to tear them from my grip, to destroy the evidence before—

"Enough."

His voice cracked on the Alpha tone. The command fractured mid-syllable, breaking into something raw and desperate that his warriors had never heard before.

His aura didn't just flicker this time.

It visibly cracked.

I saw it happen. A hairline fracture running through the dominant presence that had held this pack in place for six years. The biological cost of rejecting a fated mate while guilty of bond-violation, hitting him in real time before three hundred witnesses.

At the high table, Helena Larson sat perfectly still. Her face was a controlled mask. But I caught it — the single micro-flinch when the photographs were displayed. The tiny compression of her lips.

She had known.

Of course she had known.

I folded the photographs carefully and placed them on top of the open ledger.

"I will file the bond-violation report with the Lycan Council at dawn," I said.

My voice was still quiet. Still steady.

Still mine.

Vance stared at me. His mouth opened. Closed. His hand was still extended toward the photographs he hadn't reached in time.

Behind him, Kimber had stopped crying.

Her face was white.

And somewhere deep inside my chest, beneath the place where the bond had been, beneath six years of careful silence and survival-mode stillness—

My wolf stirred.
