8.8 / 10.0
In Silvercrest's glittering hall, she hides in gray shadows while Brendan, her mate, parades Scarlett in champagne silk. He surrendered her throne, and the pack bows to another. Yet beneath her quiet fury, a wolf's rage simmers—patient, hungry, and unforgiving. A stolen crown demands vengeance, and the night everything changes is drawing near.

After My Mate Gave My Throne to His Luna Chapter 1

I sat in the back row of Silvercrest's grand hall, wearing a plain gray sweater and jeans that felt wrong against the chandeliers and silk. Around me, hundreds of wolves in formal wear filled the space — Alphas from every pack on the Eastern Seaboard, their Lunas glittering beside them, Betas and Gammas in tailored suits. The air smelled like expensive cologne and power.

No one looked at me. I had made sure of that.

On the raised stage at the front, Brendan stood at the podium in a perfectly cut black suit, his Alpha aura rolling off him in waves that made even the visiting Alphas straighten their spines. Beside him, Scarlett Elliott wore a gown the color of champagne, her dark hair swept up, her smile warm and gracious. She looked like she had been born to stand there.

Maybe she had. Maybe I never was.

My wolf stirred for the first time in hours — not a howl, just a flicker, like someone turning over in their sleep. She had been so quiet lately. Five years of Brendan's Alpha aura pressing down on us, day after day, had taught her to curl small and stay silent. I used to feel her every moment. Now she was a distant hum, a second heartbeat I could barely hear.

I missed her.

Brendan's voice carried across the hall, smooth and commanding. "Tonight, we celebrate not just Silvercrest's strength, but the vision that built it." He gestured to the screens flanking the stage, where images of our expanded territory glowed — borders I had redrawn by hand in that freezing cabin, defensive perimeters I had mapped in the dark because the cabin had no heat and I could not afford to waste firewood on light. "Five years ago, this pack was failing. Our alliances were weak. Our defenses were outdated. Our reputation was in decline."

I traced the edge of the wooden bench with one finger, following the grain. It was an old habit. When I could not sleep in the cabin, I used to trace territorial lines on the frost-covered windowsill, over and over, until my fingers went numb.

"But we rebuilt," Brendan continued. "We forged new alliances. We trained the finest warriors on the Eastern Seaboard. We expanded our borders and secured our future." He paused, letting the applause roll through the hall. When it faded, he smiled — that easy, charismatic smile that had once made my heart skip. "And I could not have done it without the brilliant strategic mind of my Luna."

He turned to Scarlett, extending his hand. She took it, stepping forward into the spotlight, and the applause surged again, louder this time.

My wolf went very still.

"Scarlett Elliott," Brendan said, his voice warm with pride, "is the architect of everything you see tonight. Every alliance. Every defense. Every strategy that made Silvercrest what it is today." He looked at her like she was the sun. "She is my partner. My equal. The mind behind the throne."

Scarlett smiled, gracious and poised, and said something modest that I could not quite hear over the ringing in my ears.

I had written those alliances. I had designed those defenses. I had sat in that cabin with numb fingers and a whimpering wolf, drafting strategies by firelight while Brendan hosted banquets in the warm packhouse without me. I had done it because I believed the mate bond was sacred. Because I thought the Moon Goddess had a plan.

Because I was an idiot.

Brendan's gaze swept the hall, and for one brief, terrible moment, it landed on me. His expression did not change. He looked right through me, the way you look through a window.

Then he smiled again and said, "Of course, I should also thank Alicia Hernandez, who has been invaluable in keeping the packhouse tidy and the Omegas in line. We could not have done this without her hard work behind the scenes."

A few polite chuckles rippled through the crowd. Someone near the front clapped, briefly, like you clap for a child who tried very hard.

My wolf woke up.

It was not a gradual thing. It was sudden and sharp, like breaking through ice into freezing water. She surged inside me, furious and awake, and for the first time in five years I felt her fully — not muted, not distant, but right there, howling.

I stood up.

The wolves near me glanced over, mildly curious. On stage, Brendan had already moved on, talking about next quarter's expansion plans. Scarlett stood beside him, glowing.

I pulled my tablet from my bag. My hands were steady. That surprised me. I had thought they would shake.

I walked down the center aisle.

People turned to look now. A few frowned. A woman in a silver gown whispered something to her mate. I did not care. My wolf was awake, and I was done being erased.

When I reached the front, I did not stop. I climbed the stairs to the stage. Brendan's head turned sharply. His eyes widened — not with fear, not yet, but with confusion and the first flicker of anger.

"Alicia," he said quietly, his Alpha tone sliding into his voice like a blade. "What are you doing?"

I did not answer. I walked to the podium, pulled the microphone toward me, and opened my tablet.

Behind me, I heard Scarlett's sharp intake of breath. In the audience, the murmurs grew louder.

I tapped the screen. On the massive displays flanking the stage, the images of Silvercrest's expansion vanished. In their place, a scanned document appeared — my handwriting, my signature, my scent-seal in the corner. The date stamp read five years ago.

It was the original draft of Silvercrest's alliance strategy. The one I had written in the cabin. The one Brendan had told me was "pack property" and locked in his office.

I had kept a copy.

I had kept copies of everything.

"This," I said into the microphone, my voice steady and cold, "is mine."

The hall went silent.
