Chapter 1

After my marriage to my archenemy, Percival Farrington, I hummed "The Sad Widow."

He scowled, then turned around, bought my company out, and ordered me to report to his bedroom every night.

The workload kept piling up, and my clothes kept getting more revealing.

Eventually, every time I went to report, he...

In Felswyn City, everyone knew I was arrogant and domineering, and that Percival and I were sworn enemies.

So, when news of our marriage broke, half the guests at the wedding were there just to watch the spectacle.

But I had no intention of giving them what they expected.

I wore a delicate sweetheart-neckline dress, paired with a serene white veil, and instantly became the center of attention.

Percival barely made it through his wedding vows before I was in tears.

When it was time for the kiss, I clung to his neck, unwilling to let go.

The crowd erupted in a stir, thinking I had completely changed for Percival.

Only Percival, his fists clenched, wore an expression of barely contained anger.

“Sophia, I advise you to know your limits.”

That was the least of his worries. I wasn’t planning on keeping up the act for long.

Only a month into the marriage, and I couldn’t wait to grab a bottle of Hamilton Distillers and head straight to my best friend Rosa Morgan’s bar to let loose.

“I thought you’d given up on partying and wouldn’t come back to my shabby bar!” Rosa exclaimed, stomping her high heels, feigning reproach.

I pulled her into a hug. “How could I?”

“I’ve invited a few handsome guys to celebrate my birthday. You don’t think your husband will misunderstand, do you?”

I took a swig of strong liquor and was about to explain when I caught a face I knew all too well.

Oh, isn’t that my bastard of a husband?

I remember the time he reported me to my family for hanging around the bar all day.

He grounded me for six months, and that’s how our grudge began.

What’s this? The cold, aloof Percival is here?

Rosa, noticing my sudden stillness, turned to look curiously.

“Holy crap, that’s your husband!?”

“Should we hide?” Rosa asked, her voice laced with caution.

From a distance, Percival was lazily leaning against a booth, surrounded by a few beautiful women.

I waved my hand at Rosa. “No need.”

It seemed Percival had sensed my burning gaze and looked up in our direction.

In the real battlefield, there’s never any smoke of war.

As we spoke, Rosa’s five handsome friends came over, surrounding us in a protective circle.

Percival’s profile was sharp and cool, his expression unreadable. Suddenly, he waved his hand and called over six more women.

Oh, please. You think I’m going to lose to you!?

I lowered my head and whispered to Rosa, urging her to call over a few new university students who had just arrived.

“Huh? Isn’t that a bit much?”

Rosa hesitated, but my determined gaze made her relent.

When eight handsome men came toward us, Percival’s expression finally faltered.

I raised my glass to him from across the room, lifting my chin and locking eyes with him.

“Drink as much as you want today, I’ll pick up the tab.”

I finished off my drink, playfully toying with a clear ice cube between my lips.

One of the women around Percival, with delicate fingers, fed him a grape.

Tsk, tsk, tsk—what a scene.

I took out my phone and snapped a few pictures.

The flash lit up the room, and that was when Percival finally lost his composure.

His tall figure stood out even in the dim lighting.

He coldly parted the crowd and slowly made his way over to me, slipping a keycard onto my waist. “Don’t mess up the sheets at home. I’ll need to check.”

His sharp features were set in a cold expression, and a small mole sat on the side of his high nose.

I admit, for a moment, when he got that close to me, I was a little overwhelmed.

But I quickly shook my head, snapping out of it, and returned the keycard to his pocket. “No need. The hotel can still accommodate us.”

Rosa, seeing the tension between us, rushed over to mediate.

“It’s a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding.”

“Indeed, it’s a misunderstanding. I invited those people over too.”
