Chapter 5

Still not satisfied, Kamari swung her hand again, this time slapping Frank’s face.

“And you, you scoundrel! For such a shameless mistress, you’d actually be cruel enough to kill your own children! What kind of place is that deserted island? For hundreds of miles around, there’s nothing but wild beasts and venomous snakes! Even the most skilled person who goes there would only end up dead and their body left to rot in the wilderness! And Jane! She’s been married into our family for eight years, enduring eight years of hardship! Yet she never caused trouble and took care of everything in and out of the house flawlessly for you! But how did you treat her? You cheated on her behind her back for eight years and now you won’t even spare her children! Destroying the mourning hall and burning the ashes are things a human being never does. Jane leaving you was the best decision she ever made in her life!”

Kamari’s voice was hoarse yet firm, every word coming straight from her heart.

All these years, she had witnessed everything I did for the Watson Family and kept it in her heart. Because of this, she was tormented by guilt and regret, suffering so deeply that she was determined to seek justice for me no matter what.

Her powerful words left Frank stiff all over. He even began to doubt whether I had been lying at all.

Could those six children really be dead?

If all of this was true, what was he supposed to do?

Seeing Kamari with a face full of rage, Celine felt wronged but still stubbornly tried to defend herself.

Kamari gave her a venomous glare and sneered coldly, “You have no right to speak here!”

Her heart was filled with desolation. When she looked back at Frank, tears streamed down her face, as if she had aged decades overnight.

“Forget it! You simply don’t deserve Jane! Frank, from today onwards, I officially sever all mother-son ties with you! I, Kamari Watson, don’t have a son like you!”

Exhaustion seeped from Kamari’s words as she turned and prepared to leave.

Frank suddenly trembled and spoke, “Mom, is all what you just said true?”

He knew his mother’s temper very well. For her to be so furious, it probably wasn’t a lie.

Kamari didn’t look back at him, her voice hoarse and harsh. “I wish all of this were false.”

After Kamari left, the rescue team and police entered the office with evidence.

Frank stared helplessly as the police took out six death certificates. Each certificate bore the names of the children he once hated the most.

But why did his heart ache so terribly?

Perhaps seeing his body trembling uncontrollably, or maybe because of the two streams of tears falling from his eyes, the police’s voice also carried a trace of sorrow. “Mr. Watson, your six children have been confirmed dead. Please accept our condolences.”

Celine was completely unable to hide her joy. She was so happy that she even opened a bottle of wine to celebrate. “Frank, now no one can stop us from being together!”

But Frank, who had always doted on her, ignored her this time. His fingertips holding the death certificates turned white from gripping them tightly.

Just recently, he had seen those six children alive. They stood straight and tall in front of him, nervous yet excited, smiling brightly as they called him "Dad."

But those pure, innocent faces had now become the black-and-white portraits on the death certificates.

"How... how is this possible? How could they have died? I only meant to teach them a lesson and someone regularly went to bring them water and food. They’ve also been trained in survival skills since childhood. How could they possibly die?"

Desperate and frantic, he grabbed the police officer's collar, his eyes bloodshot with intensity. "Have you done DNA tests? This has to be fake, right? How could my children die so easily?"

But the police officer just shook his head sadly, repeating again and again, "Please accept our condolences."

The rescue workers handed Frank a stack of photos.

"Mr. Watson, maybe you should take a look at these."

"These photos were taken half a month ago. By then, the kids had already died..."
