After My Husband Faked His Death to Avoid Debt
Chapter 4
Six:
The two of them were surrounded by creditors.
Annie quickly pointed at me and said, "Make her pay back. She has money and property. She's Logan's wife."
I looked confused and grabbed the lawyer from earlier, asking, "I renounced my inheritance. Do I still need to repay the debts?"
The lawyer shook his head. "No, you don't."
I sighed. "Mom, Lilian, did you make me sign the inheritance because you already knew about this debt?"
"I thought you were being kind, but I didn't expect you to..."
I didn't finish my sentence, but everyone understood what I was trying to say.
Lilian pushed through the creditors and arrogantly said to me, "This was your joint debt. You should definitely be the one to repay it. Besides, Logan..."
Lilian couldn't continue because her original lines were about Logan dying because of me, but after my earlier outburst, the cause of Logan's death had already changed.
The lawyer interjected at the right moment, "A joint debt requires the signatures of both parties for shared expenses. Currently, these IOUs do not have Ms. Adams's name."
Lilian was struck as if by lightning and fell at my feet, holding onto my pant leg and crying, "Olivia, my mom and I can't come up with so much money to repay the debt. You have a house; can you sell it to pay off some of it?"
She had quite the nerve. I looked at her with bewilderment. "Lilian, don't you and Mom also have a house? Its value should be higher than mine. Why don't you sell your own house?"
Annie didn't hear clearly and only heard that they wanted to sell her house. She screamed, "You can't sell my house! Where will I live? Do you want me to be homeless?"
Seven:
Regardless of what the two said, the creditors were unmoved, insisting that both of them pay up.
Following my lead, they also declared that they renounced their inheritance.
"We don't want the inheritance; we're just likeOlivia!"
"Yes, we were unaware of Logan's loans, and we have no obligation to repay."
Unfortunately, it was futile.
During the funeral preparations, I investigated and found out that many of Logan's loans were guaranteed by Annie and Lilian. Moreover, they had taken a significant share from these loans.
This was the reason why, in my previous life, they had insisted on faking his death and emotionally manipulating me into repaying the debts.
If I didn't repay, it would fall on them.
The Carter family had manipulated me and sold me out to save themselves.
Upon hearing their claims of ignorance, the creditors presented screenshots and bank statements of the money Logan had transferred to Annie and Lilian.
The two were shocked. "How could you have these so quickly?"
It would have taken a long time to obtain these through normal channels, but if it was me helping them, it would take just a few minutes. I stood on the sidelines, wiping my eyes that had swelled from the menthol. "Mom, Lilian, how could you allow Logan to take out these loans? Now I can't help you. You will have to repay this money yourselves."
A voice from the crowd spoke up, "Olivia, you're too malicious. No wonder Logan would rather have an affair and a child outside than be with you!"
