For three years, she knelt at Alpha Ford's feet, her healing gift the only thing he valued—and it was slowly destroying her. Every breath of his scent is tainted by another woman's perfume, a cruel reminder of her place in his world. But when the pack's very foundation begins to crack, the rejected Luna faces an impossible choice: stand by the Alpha who discarded her, or protect the future he's determined to ruin. A modern werewolf romance of obsession, betrayal, and the dangerous power of a broken bond.

After My Alpha Rejected Me, His Pack Fell Chapter 1

The bathroom tile was cold beneath my knees. Three years, and I still hadn't gotten used to it.

I pressed my palms against Ford's forearm, feeling the faint warmth gather under my skin. My Luna healing gift—the only thing he found useful about me—pulled at Jessica's scent like thread from fabric. Sharp florals. Too sweet. The kind of perfume that announced itself before she entered a room.

It clung to him everywhere. His wrists. The hollow of his throat. Places I hadn't touched in months.

"How much longer?" Ford's voice came from above me, flat and bored.

I didn't look up. "Almost done."

The scent lifted in wisps I could see only because of the gift—pale pink threads dissolving into nothing. My hands moved in practiced circles, scrubbing another woman off my mate's skin so he could stand beside her at tomorrow's pre-banquet without the pack smelling the truth.

My thumb found the inside of my wrist and pressed hard. The small pain helped.

"You should be grateful," Ford said. He was looking at his reflection in the mirror, not at me. "A wolfless mate. Most Alphas would have expelled you by now. Classified you as rogue."

I kept my face blank. Kept my hands steady.

"I could have done that," he continued, adjusting his collar. "The pack would have supported it. But I let you stay."

The last thread of Jessica's scent came free. I pulled my hands back and stood, my knees aching. "It's done."

Ford examined his reflection, turning his head to check his neck. Satisfied, he walked past me without another word. The door clicked shut behind him.

I turned on the faucet and scrubbed my hands. Once. Twice. Three times. The water ran cold, then hot, then cold again. When I finally looked up, my reflection stared back—pale, controlled, nothing showing.

Good.

I dried my hands on a towel that still smelled like cedar and rain. His scent. The one that had pulled me here three years ago when the Moon Goddess revealed him as my fated mate. The one I'd followed all the way from the Lycan Court, abandoning everything because I remembered a boy who'd stepped in front of a rogue's claws to shield me.

That boy was gone. I'd known it for a while now. But my wolf—silent, dormant, the one nobody knew existed—hadn't let me leave.

Not yet.

I walked to my room in the far wing of the pack house. The hall was empty. It always was. My room was small, tucked away where visiting wolves wouldn't accidentally see the Alpha's mate living like an Omega.

The scent-masking schedule sat on my desk, already written in my handwriting. Tomorrow's pre-banquet. Next week's Mate Ceremony. The dates stretched out in neat rows, each one a reminder of what I'd become.

I sat down and stared at the paper until the words blurred.

Deep in my chest, something stirred. Not pain. Not quite. Just a pressure, like a door I'd locked years ago was finally starting to crack.

I pressed my thumb against my wrist again and waited for it to pass.

---

The great hall was full the next evening. Every wolf in Ironveil had shown up for the banquet, dressed in their best, the air thick with excitement and the smell of roasted meat.

I stood at the back, in the space reserved for mates-in-name. The space nobody looked at.

Ford took the dais with Jessica at his side. She wore red—bold, confident, the kind of dress that demanded attention. Her hand rested on his arm like it belonged there.

The hall quieted as Ford raised his hand.

"Thank you all for coming," he said, his voice carrying easily over the crowd. "Tonight, I have an announcement."

I already knew what he was going to say. I'd scrubbed the evidence off his skin this morning.

"At the upcoming Mate Ceremony," Ford continued, "I will formally mark Jessica Diaz as my chosen mate."

The hall erupted. Cheers, applause, wolves howling their approval. Jessica smiled, tilting her head just enough to show her throat—the place where his mark would go.

Ford reached into his jacket and pulled out a velvet case.

My hands went numb.

I knew that case. I'd carried it with me from the Lycan Court three years ago, one of the few things I'd been allowed to bring. Inside was my grandmother's collar—moonstone set in silver, the last piece of my mother I had left.

Ford opened the case. The collar gleamed under the torchlight.

"This," he said, holding it up for the pack to see, "belonged to Harper's family. A gift, to honor the bond we're building tonight."

He wasn't asking. He was taking.

Jessica turned, lifting her hair as Ford stepped behind her. The collar settled around her throat with a soft click, and she touched it with her fingertips, her expression cool and satisfied.

The hall roared again.

My chest cracked open.

Not pain. Not grief. Something else. Something that had been sleeping for three years suddenly opened its eyes.

My hands stopped shaking. My vision sharpened. The noise of the hall faded into a distant hum.

I turned and walked toward the door.

Nobody noticed.

Nobody ever did.

---

I found Elder Carl before dawn.

His study smelled like old cedar and ink. He looked up from his desk as I entered, his expression unreadable.

"Harper," he said quietly. "Sit."

I sat.

For a long moment, neither of us spoke. Then I said, "The Luna ward is mine."

Carl's eyes sharpened, but he didn't interrupt.

"It's been sustained by my bloodline since I arrived," I continued. "Every rogue-free season. Every treaty. Every border that held. That was me."

His jaw tightened.

"I'm leaving," I said. "I'll hold it through a transition, but when I go, it dies."

Carl stood slowly and moved to a cabinet behind his desk. He pulled out a leather folder and set it in front of me.

Bond-dissolution documents.

He didn't say anything. Just made tea while I signed every page.

When I finished, he took the papers and locked them in the elder archive. Then he looked at me, and for the first time in three years, someone in this pack met my eyes without dismissal.

"I'm sorry," he said quietly, "that I didn't act sooner."

I nodded and left.

---

Ford's office smelled like leather and coffee. He was reading reports when I walked in, and he didn't look up until I dropped the bond-dissolution petition on his desk.

And Jessica's scent-masking schedule.

He glanced at the papers. Then at me. Then he laughed.

Short. Dismissive. The laugh of a man who'd never been seriously wrong.

"An Omega's tantrum," he said, picking up the bond-dissolution papers with two fingers. "You want attention? Fine. Here's your attention."

His claws extended, and he shredded the documents in front of me. Paper fell like snow.

He pushed the scent-masking schedule back across the desk.

"You still have work to do before the ceremony," he said.

I looked at the shredded paper. At him. At the schedule.

Then I turned and walked out.

Carl already had the originals locked away. Ford had just destroyed copies.

I crossed the courtyard, and that's when I heard it—the low rumble of an engine.

A sleek black SUV rolled through the Ironveil gates, silver-and-frost crest gleaming on the door.

The Silvercrest Lycan Court.

I stopped walking.

Behind me, I heard Ford's office window slam open.
