After My Alpha Rejected Me for Another Woman

The sacred bond was shattered at 10:47 AM on the ceremonial platform. Dressed in ivory silk, she watched her Alpha, Jonathan, avert his eyes to gaze at Alexis Carter instead. Under the watchful eyes of hundreds of silent wolves, the heavy scent of roses and sharp chemicals filled the air. Chapter 3

Four years after the rejection, I stood in a conference room that smelled like old wood and territorial piss-marking.

The Alpha of the Crescent Bay Pack sat across from me, arms folded. His name was Vincent Hale. Mid-forties. Built like a man who'd spent his youth winning dominance challenges and his middle age getting soft. His Beta stood behind him, silent.

I'd been representing the Bloodmoon Court at regional Alpha meetings for eight months now. This was the first time someone had decided to test me publicly.

"I'm not signing revised terms based on the word of a—" Vincent paused, his mouth curving. "Well. A packless liaison."

The room went still. Six other Alphas sat around the table, watching. Theodora had sent me alone deliberately. This was a test, though I wasn't sure yet if it was his or mine.

I set down my pen. Slowly. I'd learned that speed reads as reaction, and reaction reads as weakness.

"Alpha Hale," I said. My voice was level. "Your pack currently holds a timber rights agreement with the Bloodmoon Court, ratified in 2019. Section Four, Clause B requires quarterly resource reports filed with the Lycan Council by the fifteenth of each quarter's final month."

Vincent's smile didn't move. "We file our reports."

"You filed Q1 on March twenty-third. Fourteen days late. Q2 on July ninth. Twenty-four days late. Q3 wasn't filed at all."

His Beta shifted behind him. Vincent's jaw tightened.

I kept going. "Section Seven, Clause A prohibits unilateral territorial expansion into disputed buffer zones without Bloodmoon Court approval. Your northern border moved three miles east in April. No approval request was filed."

Vincent leaned forward. "That land was unclaimed."

"It was claimed by treaty in 1987 and reaffirmed in 2015. The documentation is in the Lycan Council archives under Reference Code BM-TC-2015-047. I can provide you a copy if you've misplaced yours."

Silence.

I picked up the revised terms document and slid it across the table. "These revisions bring your obligations into compliance with existing treaty law. They don't add anything new. They clarify what you already agreed to."

Vincent stared at the document. His hand was flat on the table, fingers spread. I could see the tension in his shoulders.

One of the other Alphas—a woman named Keira from the Northridge Pack—cleared her throat. "The revised terms are reasonable, Vincent."

Vincent didn't look at her. He looked at me.

I met his eyes. Steady. I'd spent four years learning how to hold a stare without flinching, how to sit in silence until the other person broke first. I didn't need an Alpha tone. I just needed to be right.

After a long moment, Vincent picked up the pen.

He signed.

I took the document, checked the signature, and filed it in my case. "Thank you, Alpha Hale. The Bloodmoon Court appreciates your cooperation."

I stood. The meeting was over.

As I walked out, I felt it—a stirring in my chest, deeper than before. My wolf, moving. Not just pressure this time. Something closer to awareness.

And underneath that awareness, faint but unmistakable: a voice.

*Strong*, it said.

I pressed my left hand against my neck. The scar was still cold. But the voice was warm.

---

Renata found me in my office two days later.

She knocked once and entered without waiting for an answer. That meant it was urgent.

She set a sealed vial on my desk. Inside, a thin layer of amber liquid.

"The second pup," she said. "I isolated the compound."

I picked up the vial. Held it to the light. The liquid caught the afternoon sun, glowing faintly.

"Tell me," I said.

Renata sat. She looked tired. "It's synthetic. Wolfsbane-based, but engineered. Someone designed this to mimic specific bloodline scent markers. It's been applied topically—fur, skin, probably ingested in small doses to make it metabolize through the pup's system."

"How long would it take to engineer something like this?"

"Years. And significant alchemical knowledge. This isn't amateur work."

I set the vial down carefully. "The pup isn't Jonathan's."

"No. The pup is a trafficked rogue child. Scent-marked to fake a bloodline."

I looked at the vial. Then at Renata. "Does Theodora know?"

"She asked me to bring this to both of you. She's waiting in her study."

We walked upstairs together. Theodora was standing by the window when we entered, her hands folded behind her back. She didn't turn.

Renata set the vial on Theodora's desk and repeated her findings. Theodora listened without moving.

When Renata finished, Theodora finally turned. She looked at the vial for a long moment. Then at me.

"How long," she asked Renata, "would you need to fully isolate the compound? Council-grade evidence."

Renata hesitated. "Two more years. Minimum. The compound is sophisticated. I need multiple samples to confirm consistency and trace the source materials."

Theodora nodded slowly. She picked up the vial and placed it beside three others on her writing desk. Four vials now. Four pups.

I stared at them. Four deliveries over four years. Four demands for Lycan trust territory. Four fraudulent heirs.

The shape of it clicked into place.

"They're building a claim," I said quietly. "Not just one heir. A lineage. Proof of fertility and bloodline continuity."

Theodora looked at me. "Yes."

"And when you grant territory rights in exchange for recognizing the succession bloodline—"

"They control Bloodmoon holdings without ever proving legitimate descent."

I looked at the vials again. "You've known."

"I've suspected," Theodora said. "Now I know."

Renata glanced between us. "What do you want me to do?"

"Continue isolating the compound. Document everything. Store the samples in the vault. Tell no one."

Renata bowed and left.

I stayed.

Theodora sat behind her desk. She looked older than she had four years ago. Tired.

"He's my grandson," she said quietly. "Or I believed he was."

I didn't respond. There was nothing to say.

She looked up at me. "You've been building a file."

It wasn't a question.

"Yes," I said.

"Show me."

I returned to my office and retrieved the folder. Delivery dates. Transportation routes. Financial demands. Chain-of-custody discrepancies. Contact networks traced to Eastern European rogue territories.

I spread it across her desk.

Theodora read in silence. When she finished, she closed the folder and placed her hand on top of it.

"Two more years," she said. "Then we move."

I nodded.

As I turned to leave, she spoke again.

"Dakota."

I stopped.

"The voice you heard," she said. "In the meeting with Vincent Hale. Your wolf."

I froze. I hadn't told her.

She smiled faintly. "I can scent it. She's waking."

I pressed my left hand against my neck. The scar was cold. But underneath it, something warm stirred.

"Yes," I said.

"Good," Theodora said. "You'll need her."
