After My Alpha Chose His Mistress Over Me Novel Cover

After My Alpha Chose His Mistress Over Me

The Ironveil pack hall is carved into my bones: cedar smoke, cold stone, the sour edge of fear. I know where the light falls. I know the instant my world ended. I have died here before—not in this hall, but on a cliff three miles north, Lea Parker's hands warm on my shoulders, Collin's silence louder than any scream. It started here, one breath before the worst. The Moon Goddess pulled me back from death and sealed me inside my own body, my own life, at the exact moment my Alpha chose his mistress over me. This time, I remember everything.

Chapter 4

Nadia was back before the sun cleared the ridge.

She came in wolf-form, grey fur streaked with mud, moving fast and low through the trees. When she shifted back, she had blood on her knuckles and a grim, satisfied look I hadn't seen in years.

"Got him," she said.

I was standing over the ruined training ground, still cataloging the damage in my head. I turned. "Who?"

"The one who laid the pelts. Tracked his exit route through the east gully. He wasn't careful enough. Left boot prints in the creek bed, scent all over the low branches where he pushed through." She wiped her hands on her pants. "Mercenary. Rogue-for-hire. I ran him down about two miles into neutral ground. He's tied up in the holding shed. Alive. Mostly."

My wolf stirred, pleased. "Good work."

"There's more." She pulled something from her jacket — a small glass vial, half-empty, reeking of the same chemical bite I'd smelled in the trough water. "He was carrying this. It's a preservative. The kind Ironveil's quartermaster uses on hides for trade. I've seen it in their supply logs."

I took the vial, held it up to the light. The liquid inside was clear, faintly yellow. "You're sure?"

"I worked Delta supply for three years before I made Gamma. I know that smell." Her mouth thinned. "And the pelts? They're not fresh kills. They've been stored. Treated. Staged."

"So someone in Ironveil gave them to him."

"Or someone in Ironveil is him." She crossed her arms. "Want me in the room when you talk to him?"

"Yeah. I do."

---

The mercenary was a wiry, scar-faced wolf with eyes that didn't sit still. He'd been tied to a chair in the center of the shed, wrists behind his back, ankles lashed to the legs. When I walked in, he tried to look bored. It didn't take.

Nadia shut the door behind us. The sound was very loud.

I stood in front of him and let my aura out — just a little, just enough to press against his chest like a hand. His breathing changed immediately. Shallow. Fast.

"Name," I said.

"Go to hell."

I let the aura rise another degree. He flinched. Sweat broke across his forehead.

"Name," I said again.

"Rafe," he gasped. "Rafe Cormac. Lone wolf. No pack."

"Who hired you?"

His jaw locked. I could see the decision forming behind his eyes — weigh the fear of me against the fear of whoever paid him, decide which was worse.

I made it easy. I leaned in close, let my wolf rise behind my eyes until the gold bled through, and spoke very quietly. "I am the Alpha of this territory. You walked my ground. You poisoned my water. You tried to frame my wolves for something they didn't do. The only reason you're still breathing is because I want names. Give them to me, or I will let my Beta take you apart one bone at a time until you do."

Nadia smiled. It wasn't a nice smile.

Rafe broke. "Lea Parker," he choked out. "She hired me. Paid half up front, half on proof of the job. Said to make it look like rogues, said to leave the Rivermarsh cloth so you'd go after the wrong pack."

"How much?"

"Two thousand. Cash."

"Who gave you the pelts?"

"She did. Brought them herself, in a cooler. Said they were treated, said they'd hold up to a sniff test if I didn't touch them too much."

"And the chemical?"

He hesitated. I let the aura spike. He yelped. "Ironveil supply depot! She gave me a key, told me where to find it, said take what I needed and get out."

I straightened up. Pulled the aura back. He sagged in the chair, gasping.

Nadia was already writing. "I'll get this transcribed. Signed. Witnessed."

"Do it," I said. "And get me everything — his scent profile, the vial, the pelts, the boot prints, the entry route. I want a dossier the Council can't ignore."

She grinned. "On it."

I looked back at Rafe. "You're going to repeat every word of that confession in front of the Pack Council. If you run, I will find you. If you lie, I will know. Understood?"

He nodded, pale and shaking.

I left him there.

---

Three days later, I stood in the Council hall at neutral ground, a leather folder in my hands and forty sets of eyes on my face.

The Summit had been called fast — emergency session, all regional Alphas summoned. The hall was old stone, high-ceilinged, lit by iron chandeliers that made every shadow long. Collin sat near the front, Draven Blackthorn beside him, both of them wearing the kind of calm that came from thinking they'd already won.

I walked to the center of the floor. Set the folder on the table.

"My name is Anastasia Morgan," I said. "Alpha of Silvercrest Pack. I'm here to present evidence of sabotage, treaty violation, and the use of rogue mercenaries by Ironveil Pack in a deliberate attempt to destabilize my territory and frame a neutral pack for crimes they did not commit."

The room went very still.

I opened the folder. Pulled out the first page — the signed confession, witnessed and notarized. I read it aloud, every word, Rafe's voice echoing in my memory. Then I pulled out the vial, held it up. "This preservative is exclusive to Ironveil's quartermaster. The pelts recovered from my training ground match hides logged in their trade inventory from four months ago. The boot prints at the exit route match standard-issue Ironveil patrol boots, size ten."

I set down a photograph. Then another. Then the scent analysis report Nadia had pulled together with our healer's help.

"And here," I said, pulling the final sheet, "is the mercenary's bank record. Two thousand dollars, deposited the morning after the sabotage. Traced back to an account registered under the name L. Parker."

Collin stood up. His chair scraped loud against the stone. "This is a lie," he said, his voice booming, laced with Alpha tone. "A desperate, bitter fabrication by a she-wolf who couldn't hold her mate and can't accept that she's nothing without—"

"Sit down, Alpha Collin," said Elder Thorne, the Council's senior arbiter, her voice dry and sharp as old paper. "You'll have your turn."

He sat. Barely.

I kept my face blank. "I'm not asking for punishment. I'm asking for an investigation. Full Council audit of Ironveil's supply logs, financial records, and border activity. If I'm wrong, the evidence will show it. If I'm right, treaty law is clear."

The Moonveil Alpha, a silver-haired woman named Maren, leaned forward. "I've seen enough," she said quietly. "I move for investigation."

"Seconded," said another voice from the back.

Elder Thorne nodded. "The motion carries. Ironveil Pack will submit to full audit within ten days. This Summit is adjourned."

The room erupted in low murmurs. I picked up my folder, turned, and walked out without looking at Collin once.

Nadia met me in the hall outside, grinning like a wolf with blood in her teeth. "You buried him."

"Not yet," I said. "But we're close."

Then I smelled it — cedar and rain, faint but unmistakable, coming from somewhere deeper in the corridor. My wolf lifted her head, alert, curious.

Before I could place it, Collin's voice cut through the noise behind me. "Anastasia."

I stopped. Turned.

He was standing in the corridor, alone, his face twisted with something ugly and raw. The political mask was gone. This was just him.

"You think you've won," he said, his voice low and shaking. "You think a piece of paper and some Council dogs will save you."

He stepped closer. His aura rolled out — thick, choking, the full weight of an Alpha's dominance designed to force submission. It pressed against my chest, my throat, crawling under my skin the way it used to.

For one heartbeat, the old reflex surfaced. The trained response. Drop your eyes. Bare your throat. Apologize.

Then the ground trembled.

The aura that answered Collin's wasn't mine.

It was older. Heavier. It didn't press — it *erased*. Every wolf in the corridor froze. Collin's aura shattered like glass under a hammer, and he staggered back, his face going white.

I turned.

The wolf standing at the end of the hall was massive. Silver fur, darker at the spine, shoulders easily twice the width of any Alpha I'd ever seen. His eyes were pale gold, ancient and calm, and the scent rolling off him was cedar and rain and something else — something that made my wolf sing.

Lycan.

He padded forward, silent, and positioned himself at my side. Not in front. Beside.

Collin couldn't speak. Couldn't move.

The Lycan's gaze settled on him, patient and absolute, and the message was clear without a single word.

*Touch her, and you deal with me.*
