After My Alpha Chose Another Luna, I Rejected Him

8 / 10.0
The glittering halls of the Silverfang pack became my prison while I spent six agonizing years watching my fated mate, Baylor Fox, parade other she-wolves in front of me. I sacrificed my own happiness for a crucial alliance, but as Baylor ascends to the Alpha throne in absolute dominance, the mate bond is no longer enough to keep me bound. Refusing to let him weaponize my devotion any longer, I am taking back my freedom. Tonight, I reject him.

After My Alpha Chose Another Luna, I Rejected Him Chapter 1

The Silverfang pack house glittered like a cage made of chandeliers and wolf pride. Hundreds of wolves packed the grand hall—three allied packs here to witness Baylor Fox's Alpha Ascension Ceremony. I stood near the back, wearing the deep blue dress I'd chosen weeks ago when I still believed tonight might finally be the night he marked me. Six years. Six years of waiting, of enduring, of watching him parade other she-wolves past me like weapons aimed at my chest. Six years of telling myself it was strategy, that Moonveil's alliance with Silverfang depended on my endurance, that the mate bond would eventually mean something to him.

I was done believing.

Baylor took the ceremonial stage in full Alpha regalia—dark suit, the Silverfang crest gleaming at his collar, his wolf's dominance radiating through the room like heat. He looked powerful. He looked untouchable. He looked directly at me as he began to speak.

"Tonight marks my full ascension as Alpha of Silverfang Pack," he announced, his voice carrying that easy authority that had always made other wolves drop their eyes. "And with this title, I claim my Luna."

My heart kicked once, hard, against my ribs. Around me, wolves shifted, glancing toward me. Nadia, standing beside me, gripped my hand. This was it. This had to be it. Six years of tests, and finally—

"I will mark Kara Wallace as my mate and Luna before the next full moon."

The words landed like a blade between my shoulders.

Kara Wallace stepped onto the stage from the side entrance, wearing a white gown that might as well have been a wedding dress. She smiled. Baylor's eyes never left mine. He was watching me. Waiting. This was another test. The final test. He wanted me to break, to fight, to beg him not to do this. He wanted proof that I needed him.

I felt the phantom ache of the bond flare hot and sick in my chest. My wolf, dimmed and tired after six years of unfulfilled connection, whimpered once. Then went silent. She knew what I knew: we were done.

I let go of Nadia's hand. Stepped forward. The crowd parted as I walked toward the center of the hall. Wolves whispered. Someone gasped. I didn't care. I stopped ten feet from the stage and looked up at Baylor Fox—Alpha of Silverfang Pack, my fated mate, the man who had spent six years teaching me that love was something you survived.

"I, Audrey Collins," I said, my voice clear and steady, "reject you, Baylor Fox, Alpha of Silverfang Pack, as my mate."

The bond severed.

It felt like something tearing inside my chest—not clean, not quick, but grinding and deep, a wound at the soul level that would leave scars I couldn't see. Baylor staggered. His hand went to his chest. His wolf howled—I heard it through the bond's last dying echo, a sound of pure animal agony. Kara froze beside him, her smile collapsing. The hall went dead silent.

I turned and walked out. Spine straight. Eyes dry. One foot in front of the other until I reached the double doors and pushed through into the night.

The cold air hit me like a slap. I made it to the porch railing before my knees buckled. I gripped the wood hard enough to feel splinters bite into my palms. The phantom pain bloomed hot and grinding behind my sternum—the bond's severance leaving a hole where something had lived for six years, even if that something had been poisoned. My wolf whimpered again, softer this time. Grieving.

I allowed myself sixty seconds. I counted them. At sixty, I straightened, breathed, and let the pain settle into background noise. Grief was a luxury I couldn't afford yet. Moonveil needed me functional.

Behind me, the pack house doors burst open. Voices spilled out—shock, speculation, Baylor's name repeated like a curse. I didn't turn around. I walked down the steps toward my car, my heels clicking against stone, and started calculating.

Silverfang would withdraw the alliance. That was guaranteed. Baylor's pride wouldn't allow anything else. Moonveil's borders would be exposed within days. Rogue packs would test us within a week. We had insufficient warriors, no backup alliances, and a mid-tier Alpha—my father—who had relied on Silverfang's protection for over a decade.

We needed a new alliance. Fast. Powerful. Unchallengeable.

I slid into my car and sat in the dark, hands still shaking slightly on the steering wheel. There was only one wolf on the Eastern seaboard powerful enough to shield Moonveil from what was coming. Only one name that made Alphas go quiet when it was spoken.

Zain King. The Lycan Prince.

I had outmaneuvered his Beta three years ago in a territorial negotiation. I had never met Zain himself. But I knew his reputation: ruthless, calculating, and utterly without sentiment. Exactly the kind of wolf who would understand a transactional offer.

I started the engine. The phantom pain pulsed once, sharp, then dulled. My wolf stirred, uncertain. I didn't know if what I was about to do was brilliance or desperation. I only knew Moonveil was running out of time.

And I was done waiting for men to decide my worth.
