Her world fractures the moment the mate bond dies—7:08, Thursday, in the east hall, where laughter turns to guilty silence. A Delta's daughter hides a phone too late, and the truth of her Alpha's treachery leaves her exposed and raw. Then the Lycan Prince turns his gaze on her, offering salvation that might cost everything. One night, one revelation, and a fate she never imagined awaits.

After My Alpha Betrayed Me Before the Lycan Prince Chapter 1

The mate bond went cold at seven-oh-eight on a Thursday evening, three heartbeats before I understood why.

I was standing in the east hall, half a smile still on my face from something one of the elders had said. Across the room, a knot of younger pack members huddled over a phone. They were laughing. Then they saw me and stopped laughing, all at once, the way birds go quiet when a shadow crosses the grass.

The girl holding the phone was seventeen, maybe. A Delta's daughter. She tried to slide the phone into her pocket. Too slow.

"May I?" I said. My Luna voice. Soft. Not a question.

She surrendered it face-up.

Daniel's arm. Bare to the shoulder. Wrapped around a she-wolf I didn't know, twenty-three at most, her head tipped back against his throat. His sleeve was pushed up to the elbow.

The scar was there. Pale. Irregular. Four finger-marks and a thumb, exactly where I had gripped him twenty years ago as I pulled the wolfsbane blade into my own body.

The bond in my chest thumped once. Cold. Then it did something I have never felt in twenty years of mating. It fluttered, like a candle in a draft.

"Thank you for a lovely evening," I said. I handed the phone back. I even smiled at the girl. Her hand was shaking.

I made it to the corridor before I pressed two fingers against the mark on my neck. Under my skin the mark was cool. Not warm the way it had been for two decades. Cool, and unsteady, and small.

Inside my ribs something else moved. Not a voice. My wolf has never had a voice. This was pressure. A slow tectonic weight shifting behind my sternum, like a locked door being tested from the other side.

I did not run. I walked to my study at Luna pace, closed the door, and locked it.

---

The journal came out of the wall safe. Six months of pack fund allocations, my handwriting, every column reconciled to the cent.

Forty minutes and I found them. Small withdrawals, each one nine hundred dollars beneath the threshold that would have pinged Beta review. Routed to a numbered account I had never authorized. Twelve transfers. Then eighteen. Then twenty-three.

I stopped counting and started writing.

Marcus, I sent through the mind-link. Keep this between us. I need every off-territory absence the Alpha has logged in the past four months. Times, durations, direction of travel if you have it.

The response came inside the hour. Marcus is a Delta and he does not ask questions he has not been given permission to ask.

Eleven, Luna. All north. All unlogged in the pack roster.

I saved the transcript. I did not thank him yet. That would come later, when what I was about to do would cost him something to have helped me.

---

Morning. I intercepted the laundry hamper before the Omega staff reached it.

Daniel's shirt from Tuesday was on top. I pressed the collar to my face and inhaled once.

Pine. Cedar. My mate.

And under it, worked into the fabric like she had rubbed her wrists along the seam on purpose: a young she-wolf's floral musk. Sweet. Cheap. Territorial in the way a scent only is when it is meant to be found.

My wolf pushed up against my ribs so hard my breath caught.

I folded the shirt. I sealed it in a scent-preservation bag from the healer's stores and labeled it in my own hand. Date. Location. Room.

The door opened behind me. Daniel walked in tying his watch.

"You're up early," he said, and kissed my cheek without looking at me.

"Laundry," I said. "The staff was running behind."

He hummed, poured coffee, and left.

I did not move for a full minute. My wolf held very, very still.

---

That evening the Prince's advance delegation arrived to confirm banquet logistics. I received them in the front hall as Luna, all courtesy protocols and territory arrangements. His Beta was polite, brief, precise.

One request stood out.

"The Prince asks for a seat with an unobstructed sightline to the full assembly," he said. "For security."

I nodded. I filed it. I said, "Of course."

But my wolf, which for twenty years had lain in a silence like death, did something new. She went alert. Not stirring. Not speaking. Waiting.

I did not know the Prince's name yet. I did not know what he was to me. I knew only that the quality of the silence inside me had changed, and that I did not have time to examine it.

---

Three days before the banquet, the file was complete.

Four hundred and twelve thousand dollars, routed through three shell accounts into a rogue-affiliated grid two states north. Marcus's absence log. The scent-preserved shirt. And, folded in the back, a written testimony from the pack accountant, who had been told by Daniel to keep his mouth shut and who had been waiting six months for a Luna to ask.

I locked all of it in the safe.

I pressed my fingers once against the mark on my neck.

Colder than yesterday.

I noted it the way I note everything. Precisely. Without flinching.

Through the wall, from Daniel's office, his voice came muffled on a call I was not supposed to hear.

"Tell her yes," he said. "The banquet. She wants to be introduced that night — fine. Let her come."
