After My Alpha Banished Me, His Pack Collapsed Novel Cover

After My Alpha Banished Me, His Pack Collapsed

At exactly 10:14 on a Tuesday morning, the sacred bond shattered without my knowledge. I was serving roasted venison in the Ironmaw banquet hall, suffocated by the scent of Celine's jasmine as she occupied the Luna's chair. For three banquets, I endured serving under Alpha Weston's false promise that my demotion was temporary. But as he raised his hand at the head table, my patience finally broke.

Chapter 5

The border patrol Gamma didn't move like the others.

I noticed it immediately. The two guards flanking him had the standard posture—alert, professional, ready to process another group of displaced wolves and send us to the outer settlement. But the Gamma, a lean man with silver threading his dark hair and eyes that had seen too many borders, went very still the moment I stepped into the clearing.

His nostrils flared. Just once. Subtle enough that most people wouldn't catch it.

I caught it.

My chest tightened. I kept my face neutral, my grip on Lila steady. Sable stood beside me, her dead mark visible on her neck, her exhaustion written in every line of her body. Buster pressed against my leg, his warmth grounding.

The Gamma's eyes met mine. He didn't challenge. Didn't demand identification. He just looked at me with an expression I couldn't read—something between recognition and confusion, like he was trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces.

He turned to his second, a younger man with the Court's silver armband. They exchanged a glance. The second's eyebrows rose fractionally.

The Gamma turned back to me. When he spoke, his voice was careful. Respectful in a way that didn't match my travel-stained clothes or the Omega-level status Weston had branded me with.

"Ma'am," he said quietly. "I'm Dorian Ashford-Silva, Gamma of the Lycan Court border patrol. May I escort you to the main compound?"

Ma'am. Not 'wolf.' Not 'refugee.'

Ma'am.

Sable glanced at me, her confusion mirroring my own.

"The outer settlement is fine," I said. My voice came out steadier than I felt. "We just need shelter for the night."

"The main compound has better accommodations," Dorian said. Still that careful tone. "Especially for—" His eyes flicked to Lila, then back to me. "For families."

I didn't argue. Something in his posture told me arguing would be pointless. And Lila needed warmth and food more than I needed to understand why a Lycan Court Gamma was treating a rejected Omega like someone who mattered.

"All right," I said.

Dorian nodded once. He gestured toward the tree line. "This way."

As we walked, I saw him pull a small communication stone from his belt—the kind high-ranking wolves used for discreet messages. He murmured something into it, too low for me to hear, and tucked it away before we reached the inner gates.

I pretended not to notice.

---

The quarters they gave us were not refugee housing.

I knew what refugee housing looked like. I'd stayed in enough of it over the past few weeks—communal rooms, shared pallets, the functional warmth of places built to process displaced wolves efficiently. This was different. A private room with two beds, a fireplace already lit, a window that looked out over the Court gardens. The kind of space you gave to guests, not charity cases.

Sable stood in the doorway, staring. "This can't be right."

"It's fine," I said, though I didn't believe it either.

I set Lila down on the larger bed. She immediately crawled toward the pillows, her small hands patting the soft fabric with delight. Buster flopped down beside the fireplace with a contented sigh.

There was a folded stack of clothing on the bed. I lifted the top piece—silver-white furs, soft and expensive, cut in the style Court guests wore to formal functions. Beneath it, smaller garments. Clean clothes for Lila.

I stared at them.

"Someone made a mistake," Sable said quietly.

Maybe. Or maybe Dorian had seen something in my scent, something I'd spent years suppressing, and made assumptions I couldn't afford him making.

I touched the furs. They were beautiful. Warmer than anything I'd worn in months.

Lila's clothes needed washing. The quarters were warm. And I was too exhausted to argue with kindness, even when I didn't understand it.

I dressed Lila first, then myself. The silver-white furs settled over my shoulders like a memory I'd tried to forget. I caught my reflection in the window glass—a woman I didn't quite recognize, holding a child who looked too much like me.

I turned away.

---

The Summit hall was enormous.

I'd forgotten how big Lycan Court gatherings were. The vaulted ceiling, the long tables laden with food, the crush of Alphas and Betas and high-ranking wolves from packs across the continent. The air hummed with power—dozens of strong wolves in one space, their auras pressing against each other like invisible currents.

I slipped in through a side corridor, Lila on my hip, intending to find food and leave before anyone important noticed me. Sable had stayed behind to rest. Buster padded beside me, his presence steadying.

I made it ten steps into the hall before I heard the voice.

"What the hell is *she* doing here?"

Weston's voice. Loud. Sharp with disbelief and something uglier.

I stopped walking.

The hall didn't go silent all at once. It was more gradual—conversations dropping off in ripples, heads turning, the hum of power shifting into something watchful and waiting.

Weston pushed through the crowd, his face flushed, his eyes locked on me. He looked worse than I remembered. Thinner. The Alpha aura he'd always worn so easily now felt strained, like a coat that didn't quite fit anymore.

He stopped three feet away, his lip curling.

"You," he said. His voice carried across the hall. "You've got some nerve showing up here."

I didn't answer. I just stood there, Lila against my chest, and looked at him.

His eyes flicked to the silver-white furs I was wearing. His sneer deepened. "Playing dress-up won't change what you are."

Someone near the front tables shifted. I felt the weight of dozens of eyes on me—Alphas, Lunas, Court officials. Judging. Measuring.

Weston raised his voice, addressing the room as much as me. "This is rejected Omega trash. She has no business at a Summit. Guards—" He turned toward the Court patrol stationed near the doors. "Remove her. Now."

Nobody moved.

Weston's face darkened. "I said—"

"I heard you."

The voice came from behind me. Low. Steady. Carrying the kind of authority that didn't need volume.

I turned.

A man stepped out of the crowd near the high table. Older, broad-shouldered, with silver hair and eyes that were the exact color of mine. He moved with the unhurried grace of someone who had never needed to prove his power because everyone in the room already knew it.

King Walter Ashford.

My father.

He walked toward me, his gaze locked on my face. He stopped two feet away. Close enough that I could see the lines around his eyes, the tension in his jaw.

He inhaled.

His eyes flashed gold.

The entire hall went silent.

Walter's hand came up slowly, carefully, and rested on my shoulder. Not gripping. Just there. The touch of a man who had been searching for something he thought he'd lost.

"Lorelei," he said quietly. Just my name. Like a prayer.

My wolf stirred.

For the first time since the rejection, she moved inside my chest—not a howl, not a roar, just the smallest shift, like something waking up after a long, cold sleep.

Weston stared. His face went white.

Walter turned toward him, his hand still on my shoulder, his aura filling the hall like a rising tide.

"This," he said, his voice carrying to every corner of the room, "is my daughter."

The Summit hall erupted.
